What Women Would You Put On The Dollar?

Who would you place on a dollar?

Just make sure not to include Stanton's diatribes against African American males or the undesirable European immigrant....

Nobody is perfect and people have to be judged within the context of the times. Also, she was not alone in complaining about the enfranchisement of more men while women were still powerless: "Believing that men should not be given the right to vote without women also being granted the franchise, Sojourner Truth, a former slave and feminist, affiliated herself with Stanton and Anthony's organization."

"Despite her opposition to giving African-American men the right to vote without enfranchising all women and the derogatory language she had resorted to in expressing this opposition, Stanton had no objection to interracial marriage and wrote a congratulatory letter to Frederick Douglass upon his marriage to Helen Pitts, a white woman, in 1884.

Susan B Anthony out of the women listed.

Certainly, but that saying is also used in a self-serving manner. If we were also to take that a bit more seriously, we would be able to acknowledge that she and Anthony were politically inept for most of their careers, burning bridges without the slightest care of it being unnecessary.

No, she was not alone. It remained a popular view with many suffragists (largely middle to upper middle class anglo-saxon women) up until they earned the right to vote. It also caused a great deal of unnecessary damage to the cause for decades.

That being said, I still endorse Anthony being put on currency, because not only is it popular, but it is fairly safe, regardless of my misgivings.

Wait this is about putting a woman on the 1 dollar bill? I thought we would just make a new bill (3 dollars or something) with a woman on it.

In that case, no, George Washington will stay forever and ever. I don't give a **** what people say, not what the treasury says, or any other part of the govt. I will take down whoever makes the decision to remove Washington from the dollar myself if it came to that.

Some nations have printed different designs of the same bill denomination. Would you settle for that?

Sure, I thought this was a complete removal of mister Washington, which is a no-no. I'm tired of this EVERYTHING HAS TO BE EQUAL kind of thinking people are having right now.

People are given positions of respect based on WHAT THEY DID.

And Washington deserves his place on the one dollar bill for WHAT HE DID.

You shouldn't do something for someone just because they are a woman or a homosexual etc. You should do something because they EARNED IT. The woman is going to have to be as legendary as Margaret Thatcher if she would be considered to be alongside Washington.

Marilyn Monroe

I think Tammy Faye Baker. She seems to represent everything that the dollar does. A false picture built with imagery. Remember the Tammy Faye shirts with the lipstick eye shadow and fake lashes and you were "confident" just exactly what it represented. The dollar represents an imagery that implies it is worth something and "confidence" is the pump that keeps people thinking that. It has only fiat value, or money because we say it is. Tammy was a preacher because she said she was, like a fiat minister. She promoted great "confidence " that if you sent money, it would do mysterious things, the Lord's work was implied. The gov't wants you to give them money and they will do mysterious things, the "Lord's Work," like humantarian bombing, oxymoron. It's really pretty simple and I don't see how any one besides Tammy would even be considered. Also, if you give money to Tammy or the gov't it just evaporates and you are left holding an empty bag.

You put way too much thought into Tammy Faye Baker.

My position is no one new unless they can support why. If it's just random, why not the first black pres? The first woman pres?

I think the bar is/should be higher. Like based on achievements or contributions to our nation. If I was to choose anyone, it would be MLK.

But I wasnt aware we were creating any new bills.

I think it's a fun thread, it's gotten a little rancorous but I'd like to see it stay lighter-hearted.

Well they are. The gold backed bills.

There was a misunderstanding. This is about putting a women on a dollar, that is any banknote. Not removing Washington. In my OP I said I'd think Jackson might be a possible option for replacement for a while.

Here in Mexico it is hard to keep up with the changes.

I can have 3 of the same denomination with different designs on them in my hand at the same time.

I'm fine with replacing Andrew Jackson, he didn't do **** to deserve his place on a bill.

I simply stated that "analagously" Tammy Faye fit the comparison to USA Fiat Currency perfectly. Two peas in a pod, don't ya' know? Where's your faith? That is what makes fiat money work. That is what made Tammy Faye and Jimmy work, eh?

Hamilton is mostly famous for an unfortunate tendency to lose duels.

And to have someone willing to duel you, you pretty much have to be a colossal douchebag. "I hate that guy so much that I will place myself in mortal danger to be rid of him."

You call your cat 'Sac!, c'mere Sac!'?

Actually we call her Jawea. When she was a small kitten she was really curious and investigating everything so it looked to me like she was exploring things, so we named her after an explorer.

There have been a few articles recently about the possibility of putting the first women on US paper currency. The discussion has been driven by a few polls and by an off the cuff question asked by a little girl of the President a few days ago. I think the idea is worth exploring and I was wondering who would be best suited for the position. Of all the names I've seen tossed out Sally Ride, Susan B. Anthony, and Rosa Parks seemed the most deserving. If I was forced to pick I think Susan B. Anthony is best suited because of her broad and enduring impact on American history and because she better fits chronologically with our current choices.

I put up the options I'd read tossed around the most with one or two of my own choosing but feel free to add in your own. I also recognize that this would force the displacement of someone else from our currency and if I had to pick I don't think I'd be too sorry to see Jackson go.

VOTE: Who Should Be the First Woman On a Modern Dollar Bill? - 1

Wow... I totally read this the wrong way.

George Washington was the 1st president.
IMO he should remain the face of the 1 dollar bill until and unless we stop using that form of currency.

ATTENTION: Just to clarify this is not about replacing Washington on the dollar bill. It is about putting a women on any piece of our paper currency, the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, etc. I suggested replacing Jackson perhaps.
