Maybe it's just me, but I can't help be struck by the irony that the Republican's should chose the issue of the President 'delaying' portions of the ACA as the basis for their civil law suit

Hmm, clearly my 'add a poll' ability seems somewhat impaired. I intended to add a Yes/No question

No they aren't the same thing.

Leaving aside the fact that Obama criticized Bush for signing statements (oh the irony, but his resume is full of that kind of thing), signing statements are made when the President intends to suggest a portion of the Law they are signing may be unconstitutional in some way.

Not complying with a date certain part of a Law he signed is what he has done.

OMG, that is horrible! He postponed a portion of the law that republicans opposed and they are livid. It's all jealousy. They tried to repeal the law or parts of it over 50 times. One stroke of the pen doing what they tried to and now they have to sue him. You couldn't make this stuff up.

I already explained that to Tonic in post #33.
Right before I cleared up that whole "act unilaterally" thing for you.
Ya know ... I shouldn't have to repeat myself, big guy.
Are you trying to Sanghanize me to make me stop commenting?

You didn't clear anything up. Signing statements and executive orders both can be unilateral actions altering existing law.

This whole ordeal is so absurd. Of course Obama's opponents are gobbling it up. The hyperbole gets a Pavlovian response. Once again, the Party of No is going to waste a bunch of taxpayer money in order to motivate their base and their donors.

Sanghanize is worth more than one like.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

I can't help but be struck by the irony of President Obama and his administration constantly creating exemptions, waivers and delays, keeping the full impact of his "best ever" piece of legislation from those who've been waiting for it.

Oh goody I get to use the line...I don't think Irony means what you think it does...not that OP's was any better.

What ironic or incongruent in making changes...even to the best of laws? Furthermore, what's funny about it?

Needs a formal definition.

You really don't get it?

So your position is that any President can really ignore and, in effect, repeal any Law if they alter the right parts - or, hey, maybe they can just write some new stuff from scratch.

I get it just fine. When a President authorizes warrantless wiretapping via EO, it's patriotic. Anything a Democrat does, is a High Crime.

It's ironic that those who championed the bill, those who told Americans the bill had to be passed before reading it, it was so good, those who claimed once passed, the American public would come to love the contents and impact of the bill on Americans' lives, are the same people who are doing everything in their power to delay the full impact of the bill on Americans and American businesses.

Bush basically line item vetoed with signing statements and ignored the Bill of Rights with EO.

Did Obama repeal a law? Be honest.

He delayed the implementation. This may be the pettiest thing the GOP has done so far. And that is saying a lot.

You mean like "impeach Obama" gets from the left? That kind of hyperbole?

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

Sure it does

The first link proves that the HHS Sec'y has the power to define hardship exemptions, which is exactly what was done and the 2nd shows that the HHS Sec'y has the power to determine when the reporting requirements of the employer mandate are implemented, which is exactly what was done.

Actually it only allows for individual hardships and the way its phrased individual employers. It does not allow for delaying implementation of the whole thing.

Actually, it's the right that drools when they see/hear "impeach Obama".

Nice fail though.

That was for Texan.
You know I love ya like the brother I never wanted so I think you really do get it.
It looks like you find yourself in that whole unfortunate gotta-defend-him trap.
If you didn't like warrantless wiretaps why are you defending breaking this Law in order to postpone the damage it would cause?
You must know that's not how it's supposed to work.

Which explains perfectly why the left and the WH trot it out at perceived politically opportune times - like before an election that promises to be a spanking of sorts for the left.

Obama did what he did so that he wouldn't be in a position to have to explain why he wasn't signing a repeal.

The Law had a firm date in it and he changed the Law.
Constitutionally, he's not allowed to do that.
That simple.
Now he's saying he can do any damn thing he wants as long as it helps people.

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander. I'm pointing out the previously set precedent. These EOs have been used forever. This current one is nowhere close to the most egregious. I see the law suit as a political stunt.

Obama is advocating his own impeachment?

Where in the Constitution does it say he can't use executive orders?

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

Obama is advocating his own impeachment?

Advocating? I think begging is more like it.

Re: Do You Think It's Ironic that the Republicans chose to sue Obama over ACA?

But by suing they are demanding that Obama implement obamacare, which is somthing they opposed.

not quite

they are demanding he actually follow the law

the law being the aca that was passed

congress passes laws....and the executive branch approves said laws, and then executes them

the president has two options when a law hits his desk.....sign it or veto it

if he signs it, then he is "supposed" to abide by it....

can you not see this distinction?

That's hilarious.
