Their are diffrent definition of economic freedom. Some can see it as the right to make economic direction and actions some can see it's the ability to make economic direction and actions.

For example a country with bad public school and expensive and good private school and also good but costly university, children have so diffrent ability to pursue a academic career and archieve their place in the market economy. This based on a factor they can't control the parents they are borned with,

That taxes can therefor been seen as not taking away peoples freedom but being a away for insuring peoples freedom.

Also this doesn't mean that you reject the market economy but instead just realise it's not perfect and that other form of human interactions is also needed.

Freedom isn't my only core value, but that's what this thread is about. There are plenty of other threads for discussing the outcomes of policies.

Which one of those reflects how you feel? Like I said, I have other core values aside from freedom, so I want people to have that ability, but when the government enacts policies that increase that ability, they usually decrease the right. The right and the ability are opposing forces to some degree. So which one is a better definition of freedom? This is basically a debate over positive rights vs. negative rights, IOW, the old definition of freedom vs. the new definition.

I'm not real crazy about your choices. The government owns a lot of things... does that mean there's a lot of economic freedom because of it? Plantation-holders owned slaves. Was that a sign of economic freedom, as well?
One person's rights end where another person's rights begin. The plantation owner's right to make money ends where the worker's right to not be a slave begins.

I agree. However, our opinions on what those individuals have a right to would probably differ. Unfortunately, many 'libertarians' place property above rights. They often forget that often what is considered private property was once common property until it was taken by force.

There is no right to economic freedom. You have the ABILITY to participate, you do not have the RIGHT to participate. People need to figure out that rights and abilities are not the same thing.

The right to take back what we produce.

Since the "job creators" produce NOTHING.

Time to repeal the 1946 slave act. Taft hartly.
