It still would have been a distraction and a media circus. Then what? If Aaron Rodgers came out as gay tomorrow, would that change your opinion of how well he plays? What happens when he gets older and doesn't produce as much?

I kind of agree with his comments. The thing is there is never a point in the NFL draft where Michael Sam is clearly the best player. There's no way to convincingly argue that Sam will be significantly better than say Ahmad Dixon or Ken Bishop or 50 other prospects rated around there. I don't think the potential for distraction is all that huge of a drain on a team's chances, but given that I can have a player of pretty much equal NFL prospects I probably take someone else there. And this is coming as a huge Missouri Tiger, St. Louis Rams, and Michael Sam fan.

Now, on the other hand, if Gerald Robinson were gay and I were the Rams GM, I easily, easily still take him with the #2 pick. The potential for distraction is nowhere near enough to outweigh his advantages over other players like Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan especially when considering drafting teammate Tre Mason a few rounds later.

The 7th round is pretty much a crapshoot and personally I probably wouldn't take the chance. Still, I don't think it was a terrible choice and as a fan I don't mind that the Rams picked him and I hope he does well for the team.

SEC East, yea. Weak. Its not like he played for the Gators or Bulldogs on National Championship teams. How did they do last year? Outside of Alabama, which I doubt he could earn a spot on. What did the SEC do?

SEC East was not incredibly strong last year, but he was the Defensive Player of the Year for the entire SEC. And the SEC was either the best or second best conference in the country. Went 7-3 in Bowls, took down Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Wisconsin in bowls, took FSU to the final minute in the national championship game.

Sam would've easily earned a spot on Alabama's team. His fringe speed and strength may not let him stick in the NFL, but he was a great college player and would probably have started at DE for every or almost every team in the country.

I've always liked Tony and thought of him as one of the most gentlemanly of NFL coaches.

I didn't see anything he said that was even in the same leage of offensiveness as that which I read in these forums on a daily basis. It looks like much to do out of not very much.

Other than the National Championship, didnt hardly beat powerhouses. Dont get me wrong, I am a Gators fan. But the last year or two have not been stellar.

Dungy didn't say the man himself would be a distraction, in fact he said he wouldn't be a distraction to his team. So not much in the locker room. His concern was with the Press and what they'll do since our press is nothing more than sensationalist tripe.

I would say that anyone who could balk at the killing other people would be less than human. But that would just be me.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. There will be a big media circus around Michael Sam, and I suspect there may be some issues with his teammates as well. I can't blame the guy for not wanting to have to deal with that.

I also don't really see how it's all that relevant, since the guy isn't Michael Sam's coach.

Killing a person, depending on why is one thing. Killing a dog for not meeting your fighting expectations is a whole other thing.

Because we are the United States of the Offended. You know the gay mafia was just waiting for someone to say something not in line with their philosophy and now they have a pretty big fish on the line. Dungy has been around the league for many years. Well respected coach, player and commentator. His career is on a razors edge.

so because of your bigotry, you won't even realize that as "a real conservative", I can see where things like zoning laws, and even dog fighting laws are constitutional, and logical uses of power. I would simply argue against federal one size fits all uses of such power.

They are very different as a human life is a human life and an animal life is fundamentally property.

A bunch of dudes that likely do things like make fun of each other's penises and hit each other on the butts with towels?

Just like with the military, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I guarantee that most players have played with someone sometime in their past who was gay, even if it wasn't openly. They still knew and it likely wasn't a big deal at all.
