Why would it be a distraction there?

Bunch of dudes that pride themselves on their tough guy persona showering with a gay man. Think about it.

No offense but it is pretty ovious you have not been in a male locker room.

Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam

He may be a special teams guy. You never know.

Till he gets out run by every safety and back up receiver on the team. He had a bad combine. Was a defensive player of the year in a weak division.
Probably a great guy over all. But NFL skills? No one sees it.

Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam

It won't be.

I think it could be. Not the players, but the media. I can see those morons asking questions like "How is it to have a locker next to a gay man?" and "Do you feel uncomfortable in the shower?" coming as quickly as football questions about the game.

Exactly...........

I never understood the whole showing with other dudes thing to begin with. Then again I don't get most porn either. Watching some other dude **** some chick just seems really weird to me, but apparently it's really popular.

I don't disagree. I just don't think their gonna sack him right off the bat.

You cant be tough and gay at the same time? Gay and toughness are not contradictory

Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam

I do not believe Michael's sexual orientation will be a distraction to his teammates or his organization. I do, however, believe that the media attention that comes with it will be a distraction

Yeah, just like the media's attention on Tebow's virginity was a distraction.

I think it was more the fact that Tebow wore his Christianity on his chest. They hate that.

Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam

His sexuality is a distraction. The media surrounding it is a distraction. And it still needs to be done.

Imagine if Branch Rickey had taken that route in the 40s with Jackie.

The media... of course. They'd make a big deal out of anything to get ratings. Even if he had two peckers and only three toes on each foot - it would run in the A block for weeks.

And multi-millionaire head coaches/GM's should have a little more on their mind then just winning and losing...like doing what is right once in a while. Furthering the cause of humanity should creep into the equation sometimes - and since LGBT represent probably well over 10% of the population...that is a lot of humanity.

Where in the hell did you get that percentage? The number is near 3 for homosexuals, so unless trannies are 7%, which I highly doubt, you just pulled that number out of your ass.

Not when its 42 vs 1. And gay will never be considered tough.

I saw a poll recently that said gays were 1% of the population...The problem is that 1% is very vocal so it seems like there are more.

He also wore it on his face. Do you remember when he wrote that verse number on his face? The media had fun with that story.

Well the NFL has a history of warming up to the lowest common denominator.

So what makes you think that everyone on the team are homophobes?

You don't need to be a "homophobe" to not want to shower with them.

For some reason people can't seem to grasp that.

There's probably alot of 'tough' guys that are gay and you don't even know it.

Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam

I could see it being a problem if he played center and got a boner every time the quarterback put his hands up his ass for a snap.

That would probably make me uncomfortable.

Just kidding! Relax everybody!

Seriously, I served in the United States Navy. Even though "open gayness" was frowned opon at the time, there were still gay sailors serving beside me. And I suspect, (more and more each day,) there were probably more gays serving around me than I realized. But that's only speculation.

But I did my job well. Four-Point-O. SAT! I was not distracted by the gays in the least. However, there were some idiots that served around me that were very easily distracted. I guess that's the way the Lord made 'em. Not being able to focus very well. They weren't blessed with a lot of smarts. A brick shy of a load, so to speak. I think an openly gay person might have upset them. Again, speculation.

So, I don't think it would be that much difference on a football team. The focused players probably would not be distracted. The lunkhead's, who are hired mostly for their brawn, rather than their brain, might be easier distracted. I dunno. I'm sure pounding one's head into a blocking dummy for the better part of one's life cannot be too healthy for one's intelligence quotient.

No, I think the professional, logical, and focused players would be fine with it. But I agree that the media would try to make it into a circus and that would raise the level of distraction.

So, I gotta agree with what he said. But I would have had more respect for him as a man and a coach if he would have said, "Damn the distractions, if you're good enough, suit up!"

I think if I was a NFL GM I would have to give Sams some serious second thoughts. Not because he is gay, but because I don't think I would want the media circus that is sure to follow him be a distraction to my team. My number one goal is to make the playoffs by putting the best team on the field I possibly can. I Sams and the media circus disrupts the play of my team and puts my goal in risk, then I do not want him.

But if I am the Oakland Raiders, the Cleveland Browns, the Washington Redskins, some team that will probably be having an excellent season next year is they win 6 games and I think Sams will become one heck of a football player once the media circus dies down, then I go for him. But not if my team has a chance on making the playoffs and the distraction might cost my team a game or two, no way.

Obviously the Rams don't mind.

Michael Sam: No issues fitting in with Rams

The first openly gay player drafted in the NFL said Friday there have been no issues fitting in with his St. Louis Rams teammates, no awkward moments in the locker room and that he was accepted right away.

"They respect me as a human being," he said. "And as a football player."
