Re: Do you agree or disagree with Tony Dungys's comments about gay player Michael Sam
I could see it being a problem if he played center and got a boner every time the quarterback put his hands up his ass for a snap.
That would probably make me uncomfortable.
Just kidding! Relax everybody!
Seriously, I served in the United States Navy. Even though "open gayness" was frowned opon at the time, there were still gay sailors serving beside me. And I suspect, (more and more each day, :roll
there were probably more gays serving around me than I realized. But that's only speculation.
But I did my job well. Four-Point-O. SAT! I was not distracted by the gays in the least. However, there were some idiots that served around me that were very easily distracted. I guess that's the way the Lord made 'em. Not being able to focus very well. They weren't blessed with a lot of smarts. A brick shy of a load, so to speak. I think an openly gay person might have upset them. Again, speculation.
So, I don't think it would be that much difference on a football team. The focused players probably would not be distracted. The lunkhead's, who are hired mostly for their brawn, rather than their brain, might be easier distracted. I dunno. I'm sure pounding one's head into a blocking dummy for the better part of one's life cannot be too healthy for one's intelligence quotient.
No, I think the professional, logical, and focused players would be fine with it. But I agree that the media would try to make it into a circus and that would raise the level of distraction.
So, I gotta agree with what he said. But I would have had more respect for him as a man and a coach if he would have said, "Damn the distractions, if you're good enough, suit up!"
