Calvin Coolidge

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

A lesser known aspect of our Presidential history. Nice call.

I enjoy reading about some of our less known Presidents. Arthur is one of my favorites.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

At least you admit you spit on the country and want people controlled, regulated and herded by faceless burecrats. Many of our problems can be traced back to the New Deal and the destruction it has wrought on this nation. FDR should be scorned by all Americans for the harm he caused this country.

Incorrect. I understand the reality of how the country works and what the country needs unlike most FDR-haters. The New Deal was the hallmark of social programs that should be held up as an example for others and has done more to HELP this county than things most other Presidents have done. The only people who think that FDR caused harm are people who are just anti-liberals and go along with that belief lockstep with little actually understanding, or people who's ideology dictates their thinking rather than the other way around.

Martin Van Buren.

Did you know that he's the one who really invented the "spoils system" and that "OK" gained prominence in the English vernacular because of him?

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

Easy, it is President Bill Clinton.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

Easy, it is President Bill Clinton.

Come on, you can do better than that. I get that you like Clinton because he supported Kosovo, and I agree that Clinton was a really great US president, but greatest of all time?

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

FDR was a "great president" in the sense he accomplished is goals. he also had the most deleterious impact on America since he pissed all over the concept of a limited government. He made the government a malignancy

his "goals" were getting the country through the Depression to better times and defeating fascism. How anybody can be against that and claim it was anything but tremendous is delusional.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

Yes, it is, if you read the whole statement. He didn't feel, in his heart, that he was deceiving because he honestly felt it was the right thing and what Americans would want. He was wrong, the facts say so.

It's really not that hard to understand.

What's funny is you attacking him for it when he is the only president, in my recollection, that ever had the balls to admit it. And please, let's not pretend any president has served without a lie; that's too naive.

Thanks eco, you saved me the trouble of posting exactly this.

Then they have a right to criticize how the program is enacted, enforced, and managed especially since they pay into it, willingly or not.

Get a clue...

If they don't approve of the system at all and want it removed, it is hypocritical to take part in said system. And you tell ME to get a clue? That's like saying abortion should be illegal while you are walking into the clinic to have one.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

I don't really see that as hypocritical. You're being forced to pay into the system. I don't see why you should have to reject the money you paid into social security just because you criticize with it.

If you think the system should be abolished, collecting money on it IS hypocritical, period. Now, if you want to CHANGE the system, that is another story. I'm talking about people that want it abolished and then collecting the money. Sorry, but that is literally like wanting abortion to be illegal, while you are walking into the clinic to have one. Yes, it's hypocritical.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

But they don't take part in the system willingly. You are forced to pay in. There is no hypocrisy in collecting the money you were forced to pay in and still being aginst a program. Take your partisan blinders off and you could probably see that.

They WILLINGLY collect the money in the end. Sorry, but wanting the system abolished and then collecting money on it IS hypocritical. My blinders are not on, you're excusing hypocrisy.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

William Henry Harrison - no question, no contest.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

William Henry Harrison

IMO, all POTUS's just make things worse...so they all probably sucked.

And since Harrison was only in office for 31 days, he did the least amount of damage...so he sucked the least.

Too funny....I don't know any reality where someone who says their "heart wants to believe they didn't lie"....is admitting it. Now, if he came out and said, yes I lied but I felt like I was doing the right thing....that would be a different story, but your spin just doesn't cut it. Sorry Charlie.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

I'd have to say the best ever was Calvin Coolidge. He was one of the very few presidents who wasn't an egotistical, narcissistic, power hungry megalomaniac. He also did far more than any other president in history to limit the power of the federal government and prevent it from intruding in the lives of the citizens.

It's nice to see that Woodrow Wilson got no votes for best ever. Either he or our current president will most likely go down as the worst ever. Not only was Wilson a fascist racist who hated the constitution and criticism of the government but he also gave us the Federal Reserve and the Sedition Act of 1918. He was also a pedophile. Historians have done a good job at covering up this fact but the truth can be found with a little initiative in digging into his history from truthful sources. If there's a hell hopefully Wilson is there buring for eternity.

some people remain(ed) oblivious to the suffering most sustained
a former girl friend and i came from families in the same town, but very different sides of the track
my elders praised FDR, had photos of him in the living room and sadly recalled his funeral train stopping in town and the huge numbers who paid their respects. these were people whose bleak notso great depression existence would have been even more dire but for the make work programs FDR constituted to give them the means to feed, clothe, and shelter their families
my girl friend's recollection was that times were so hard that her grandparents had to give up the lawn boy
like turtledude, i suspect they did not have a portrait of FDR in their living room either

What those folks do not realize is if not for FDR saving capitalism and our form of government - they would be living in a far more unacceptable environment today.

Re: Who has been our greatest President?

Yeah I like how many Republicans say FDR should be scorned, but have no problem enjoying Social Security. When I see a Republican scorn FDR and NOT accept social security, then I will be impressed with that person.

Why is it that every dip**** liberal and his mother thinks that every dime collected from every citizen actually gets put to good use? You'd have to be a world class ignoramus (which coincidentally most modern liberals are) to believe that even half the tax revenue in this nation actually helps the general public in some way. Don't give me that horsecrap about roads and bridges and police. The majority of taxes goes to repay political favors, to special interest groups and on numerous other worthless causes.

FDR was the beginning of the end in this nation. We went from self sufficiency to dependency on the federal government and liberals celebrate this. Simply disgusting!
