Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

You're ruining the thread. Perhaps you should have responded to me properly.

No, you're ruining the thread by going off topic. Stick to the topic. It's movies and ratings. Have some self control please instead of bringing in the topic of guns and trying to be a flamer.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

voted no. its the parents' responsibility.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

Anyways, back to the thread topic, after we were so RUDELY interrupted, I think that it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that a movie or a video game would cause a person to commit a murder or any violence. I think that tendency already exists in a person, and if it's not one thing that sets them off, it would just be something else.

I'll talk about whatever I feel is relevant, as is my nature. You're not a moderator, and you're not my mother. You've wasted an entire page of this thread because you don't like me.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

Parents should be responsible for what their kids see.

That said, Showgirls should have been banned simply for being so offensively bad.

Stop it and get a grip on yourself. If you are going to post, then you need to stick to the topic or you are breaking the rules. If you have nothing relevant to contribute, then you do NOT have to keep posting.

Anyone nutty enough to want to commit murder will do it with or without video games and movies.

People were committing acts of mayhem long before either technology was available.

I don't blame movies or video games for provoking violence. I do blame lack of regulation and responsibility on certain instruments of violence for making it easier to perpetrate. If your child is sick and suffering from mental illness, don't keep a loaded gun on the wall.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

They already are regulated. Children aren't allowed to go see R-rated movies without their parents' permission. I wouldn't mind seeing movie ratings include some more information, like why it's rated R (similar to TV ratings), but I don't think any more regulation than that is necessary.

Well they are regulated, per se, but not by any governing body, or anyone in any position of authority. They are "regulated" by the industry.

That is lack of parental responsibility. Taking care of your kids is NOT the job of the government.

I never said it was. If you look past your hate-on for me, you'll be able to read my posts more effectively be able to articulate a proper response.

I don't have any feelings for you one way or another. You were flaming this thread when you brought gun control into it. Period. End of story. There's nothing left to argue about. :) Now, buck up and be a man and knock it off.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

No, and might I add **** anyone who supports censorship or prohibition of any kind; except SELF-CENSORSHIP or changing the channel/station/movie choice.

I will never understand the mentality of nanny's who instead of changing the station when they don't like the song, try to get the song banned.

Agreed. It is ridiculous to blame murders on movies, video games, tools, and other such things.

Most murders are committed by adults. For some reason USA has most serial killers.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

voted no. its the parents' responsibility.

Children over 18 yo are not under their parents guardianship.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

As a Libertarian I am for political freedom, but obscene and violent material should be regulated.

I'm thinking most libertarians are not going to agree that you are representative of their views.

Many action movies glorify violence and teach gruesome methods of killing people. Some horror movies celebrate fictional serial killers?

I favor holding people responsible for their selves and their actions.

I'm not about to run out and kill someone because I watched Thor (a lot).

Definitely. The problem is that some people with already strange set of mind may be encouraged by these movies.

Aren't they already?

So you're still wanting to blame the movies for people's actions.
