Definitely. The problem is that some people with already strange set of mind may be encouraged by these movies.

Or a book, or a picture, or a story. Should we ban everything because it MIGHT give someone an idea? That is silly. You know that SOMEONE came up with the idea for the movie anyways. I suppose THAT person must be a serial killer in your mind.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

out of 350 million people you are going to have some that are not playing with a full deck....and a movie is not going to have anything to do with it... i think bullies are worse to make a person kill

What about history? I guess we should censor history. Some people have done some terrible things, and it MIGHT give someone an idea.

Those individuals - since they have the problems - need to learn how to cope. If a movie is going to push them over the edge then what else would be a factor? For my son it was just a boiling over of the pot, no TV influence needed.

Many action movies glorify violence and teach gruesome methods of killing people. Some horror movies celebrate fictional serial killers?

I'm not aware that a connection has been proven in entertainment leading to violence, although such claims have been made on the flimsiest grounds frequently.

People with a strange set of mind may be encouraged because they had broccoli for dinner last night.

Or didn't get laid - unlike all the lucky guys in romance comedies.

Right - wasn't some columnist blaming a school shooting on Seth Rogen, because obviously ugly guys in real life can't get hotties, like they do in the movies?

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

No, I don't believe so. I assume that by 'regulations,' you mean that they should be subjected to more regulations than they currently are. I support the current labeling system, so that someone is aware of what they are watching. Since labeling of movie rating is already in place, there is no legitimate reason to censor things that are found offensive, since whether or not something is offensive depends entirely on one's taste. "Freedom of speech doesn't protect speech you like, it protects speech you hate," is especially applicable here. I may find a movie that has homophobic or racist sentiments offensive, but I don't wish to ban movies under that category.

I think people are going to make films, shows and music with lots more objectionable (to some) material whether we try to regulate it or not. The people who want all the sex and violence out of films should perhaps look at the society that causes the thoughts that make this film. Like, if perhaps you could walk downtown Worcester, MA without being offered heroin 10 times in a 5 block radius... with the problems in my home city I see more here and more on the screen. Perhaps, instead of taking notes about what kind of violence was on 24... you people bitching should be using that time to voluntee.

anonymous polls should be banned

violent movies not so much

From English Wikipedia:

In Talley v. California (1960),[83] the Court struck down a Los Angeles city ordinance that made it a crime to distribute anonymous pamphlets. Justice Hugo Black wrote in the majority opinion: "There can be no doubt that such an identification requirement would tend to restrict freedom to distribute information and thereby freedom of expression ... Anonymous pamphlets, leaflets, brochures and even books have played an important role in the progress of mankind."[84] In McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission (1995),[85] the Court struck down an Ohio statute that made it a crime to distribute anonymous campaign literature.[86]

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

I hit yes thinking there should be a regulation and then realized that there already is... the Rating System. R, PG, etc.

Here there are more. G, PG, R, R-13, R-16 and an R-18.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

Very true they do. I don't think we need any governmental regulation here though. The MPAA's system generally works pretty well in my opinion.

And then parents need to do their jobs.

As other people here have said.

A content label is fine, even a minimum age requirement to buy is fine, but other than that.....no.

Please see my signature, in blue, for my opinion on that statement.

The more personal responsibility you take away from people, the less they will ever initiate on their own.

Re: Should violent movies be regulated?

They pretty much already are regulated.

They are regulated to some degree, we have a rating system.
