"Soccer" is so boring and nothing ever happens.... ;)

No. Sports suck.

I"m currently in Germany, and was able to watch the game tonight with about 150 or so of my new best drinking buddies. Afterwards streets filled with honking horns, guys riding around with massive flags flying out their windows, people walking around with flags wrapped around them like togas - it was a real experience. I've never been in Europe during World Cup before; I have to say, I'm impressed.

Germany winning might have been a factor in the merriment!

I normally don't watch soccer, but I'll be watching the World Cup just because it's such a big event. Watching it in the US always perplexes me, however, since those who claim to big soccer fans seem to find it fashionable to root against the US despite living here.

If no why not?

Soccer bores the crap out of me.

Don't take it personally, soccer fans... most sports bore the crap out of me. At least, watching them does.

Soccer isn't something that interests me to watch. I find it boring as I do baseball and basketball. Now if you want to play soccer, baseball or basketball then it becomes fun. But as far as watching sports, football and hockey are what interest me.

This is America. Why would I watch soccer?

FYI, the Economist has a good piece on why the three biggest nations in the world, China, India and the US have essentially no football representation.

G A W D.....The Americans beat the team from Ghana today..How is that no representation?

I find soccer boring with worse acting (on fouls)than the NBA. with all the lead in tournaments to wimbledon on the tube and the NBA finals, I would't watch soccer by choice-period. Maybe if they get rid of that stupid score killing "offsides" rule I will watch it.

soccer fanatics have spent billions trying to make this sport commercially successful in the USA. it has failed and of all the major sports a kid can play, soccer is the one most likely to lead to surgery. BTW, my father was at top 5 HS soccer player in the USA and was a two time All-American and my niece went to a top 10 D-I soccer school on a full soccer ride.

Hey TD, I thought my son in law was going to cry, but even he had to admit that the Spurs were the better team this year...They were like dynamos and it was a fun game to watch....:2wave:

I find baseball to be the most dreadfully boring sport ever, I've actually fell asleep twice at MLB games! People bitch about how few scores there are in soccer, but a 3-2 soccer match is the same as a 21-14 score in football, and it is the same as a 3-2 score in baseball or hockey. I love the fact that just one score is so incredbly important in a soccer match. If it is my team, I can be on the edge of my seat the entire game, if I attend a game live, it really sucks when you have to hit the bathroom.. :) Spend a week in Argentina, see the passion, once you get it, you love it.

I watched Argentina play on Saturday. I love the way they slide in next to an opponent to knock the ball away....it looks like a baseball player sliding into home base, and they didn't trip any of the players..Today Ghana did it too, but tripped almost every player on their butts, some injuries too I believe....

Nope, zero interest in any form of professional sports. I see no reason to watch a bunch of overpaid prima donnas prancing around a field.

Believe me, they don't prance, they run, jump, slide and fly....

Gee, maybe you would have enjoyed watching the American team beat Ghana today...duh!

Missed the game. Pissed at the result.
I had the Black Stars picked as a dark horse in the World Cup. Looking at the match stats, I'd say the US pulled one out of the fire. Good for them- that's just the kind of thing that pushes a team ahead in a tournament.

They looked totally wiped out at the end, but they won...

Show a hockey game against a football game, or baseball or basketball.

Same same

Soccer is growing, fact. Americans are watching, fact.

Deal with it.

Well, Americans watch the World Cup every four years until the United States is eliminated, which is usually quickly, but that's about it. I think FIFA is terrible but I like soccer well enough. I'm in the minority and actually watch soccer somewhat regularly. As someone who watches soccer somewhat regularly I'm not even sure if MLS games are even televised. That probably tells you a lot about the popularity of the sport right there. I think yesterday gives the Americans a real short to get out of group play but, if they don't, coverage of the World Cup will drop drastically and overall coverage of soccer will drop to basically nothing once the tournament is over.

MLS are televised nationally on ESPN, ABC, Fox Soccer and Univision. They just signed a new long term contract with ABC/ESPN, the ratings are doing well. As I stated earlier in the thread, MLS now has higher average attendance than NHL and NBA. NBC shows Premier league games on the weekend, and the ratings have increased year over year and are doing well.

The WC ratings have been very high this year before the US game, they will be high after the US is knocked out, I enjoy watching all of the games, so do all the soccer fans. The sport is popular in the US, you just don't realize it.

Again, I like soccer well enough. You and Higgins are behaving as though saying anything remotely negative about the sport is akin to wishing everyone who has ever kicked a soccer ball die of AIDs. No one is saying anything especially negative about the sport. With that said, the sport is not popular. Ratings may be growing but that's mostly because they started from nothing. MLS is nowhere near on par with the Big Four. It's not even close.
