Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

The next time we have a surplus why don't we just open up a 24/7 365/yr free resort and send all the liberals there for a rather... "permanent" relocation?? :D

P.S. To my liberal objectors there will be free healthcare... free food... no guns... no religious icons...no work ohhh and the resort owns all of your personal property (The resort does believe in Communistic living afterall). Sounds like liberal heaven doesn't it???

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

It's not just small government, it's fiscal responsibility, living within one's means and keeping the government out of the lives of the people, none of which the GOP has any interest in. In virtually every way, except for their radical religious views, the Republican Party is virtually identical to the Democrats.

Those radical religious views make a big difference.

Those radical religious views make a big difference.

I don't think so, it's not doing anything to get them elected to high office, in fact it's hurting them more than anything. They're either going to have to ditch the far-right religious lunatics or risk becoming entirely irrelevant in American political power.

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

a Bill Clinton smoke-and-mirrors surplus.

What's a surplus? Is that like an unicorn, a flying carpet, a leprecaun, Santa Clause, the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, a pink elephant or a purple squirrel? I have read about such things but surpluses aren't real, are they?

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

Aren't these two the same thing? I think Mccain tried to avoid discussing abortion. It didn't work too well. Yes, those lunatics are crazy and a hindrance to the Republican Party's Agenda but I can't see how the Republican Party could survive without them. In some districts Congressmen are politically required to give fiery speeches about abortion even though it is a fight that was lost 40 years ago. Why should a congressman in South Carolina give up his job just to make some Republican in New York happy?

I still recommend this as a strategy to the Democratic Party: Outlaw abortion and re-write the 2nd Amendment that guarantees unlimited gun rights. If the Democrats would do this, the Republican Party wouldn't exist.

So far, 84% say to pay down the debt.

In this day of Keynesian-madness/Krugmanomics free spending, that is surprising to me...and slightly encouraging.

Maybe the Mooching Bug has not infected as many people as I thought.

Its easy to vote in a poll. How many are actually willing to sacrifice their pet projects when this magic surplus materializes? I know the politicians arent. Are any of those people who voted to pay off debt, besides me, willing to vote against an establishment politician who would want to spend it?

What happened last time we had budget surpluses from 1998-2001? Spending went up, and then we got some tax cuts. No debt was paid off.

This is a good point.

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

Conservatives gave us the two most fiscally irresponsible presidents in reagan and bush. they have no right to talk about debt.

Partisan bickering really helps. Get over the red vs. blue team, they both sell you down the river for a quick buck. Why can't you die hard fans of both teams realize this?

I commonly say, "Cut the service that benefits me most." "Cut his but don't you dare cut mine" is a mentality that leads to the normalcy that we have now. A true conservative should say, "Cut the service that benefits me most.". If he/she can't say that then they are full of s*** and get zero respect from me.

Would you award that same amount of respect to the Democrat who can't/won't agree with your common saying?

Many conservatives claim that they want to cut spending but they really don't. I despise those liars who misrepresent my cause.

A person who advocates additional spending and backs it up by asking for more government services doesn't impress me too much. I don't despise that person but they don't get respect. After all, that's a pretty easy position to take. Wouldn't you say?

I don't know exactly what you were getting at.

I just asked a very straightforward question.

You advanced your common saying, "Cut the service that benefits me most.", and then apply that to Republicans. I'm simply asking if you also apply that saying to Democrats and if you award them the same respect you would give to the Republicans when they don't abide by your saying. After all, Democrats, while maybe not as much and while they are a bit more hypocritical about it, also call for decreases in government spending...for things that do not benefit them most.

When you get right down to it, I guess I'm just trying to get a sense of how hypocritical YOU are.

I said it was 'slightly encouraging'...not 'fantastic'.

No matter how committed they are, I would rather they voted to pay down the debt then not, any day.

One has to start somewhere.

I didn't mean in relation to their ability to win congressional elections. I mean in relation to how they're hurting people in this country, especially in terms of reproductive rights and gay rights. The attacks on workers' rights, as well. If all you're looking at is the national debt, then yes, I can see the parties looking the same. But if you're looking at people's lives, there's a lot of difference.

On the state level, the crazy stuff doesn't seem to be holding the Republican party back very much, anyway. That doesn't seem irrelevant to me.

Re: Should we ever have a budget surplus again, what should we do with the extra mone

Look at the wall Israel built, it works, but of course you would never admit it. And to answer your question it keeps terrorist out and the suicide bombers have been non existent, sense the time the wall was built. And it works to keep people in, the Berlin wall did it all, keep people in and people out. Lets remember it was Reagan that asked to "tear down that wall".

So yeah walls work. In fact walls have worked from the time of the beginning of man.

You talk like there are not people who don't have millions of dollars to spend on alternate ways to smuggle things, including people, into this country. A wall will not stop them.

Just one example of many:

Of course, i just dont beleive they are sincere. People say they want change and then vote in the same people. And then tell us if we dont vote for the same people we wasted our vote, elected the enemy, etc.

An invasion of northern mexico will stop them. Why not since Mexico is aiding people invading the border states?

I am actually for that, moreso for the drug and violence side than the immigration side. But then we both get what we want, yes? :)

Well it sure stopped them in Berlin and Israel, so don't tell me walls don't work. As it is now they just walk across and send in tons of drugs across the border. I take it your for an open border.

BTW, that video you posted, guess what they shut the tunnel down.

A real surplus, I mean, not a Bill Clinton smoke-and-mirrors surplus.

I think it's ok if we were to run a real surplus and collectively decide we're going to use that money to pay down the debt but that should be a collective decision made by the population. Overall, it should be for the tax payers to decide what to do with that surplus as it's our money.

Not an open border but I am against a wall. It's not going to work here and it's a completely different situation. First of all - Palestinians don't have billions of dollars to back them up, the cartels do and they have the motivation to move their products here to the US by any means possible. Second of all, it's not a guarantee to keep people out, by some reports hundred and sometimes thousands of Palestinians penetrate the wall on a daily basis. The Berlin wall doesn't even factor in considering it is not even up anymore and only lasted about 26 years which shows it must not have worked.

The Berlin wall worked, in fact it worked so well no one ever crossed that did not get killed. We have 20 million illegals in this country and now they are busing them to cities in Arizona and letting them go. Further you offer no solution except that a wall will not work then you would say putting a military fence would not work and so on. You are for an open border or offer up how you would shut the border down.

Sure, but it's also our debt? And if we don't pay down our debt, then more of our money keeps going toward debt maintenance.
