Has the US seen its last white, male President?

Has the US Seen its last white, male President?

Well, yes it does imply that minorities are incapable of voting outside their race because that's the only way that no white male will ever be President again.

Couldn't they vote for a white woman?

They could, but Geraldine Ferraro did a lot to set back women in the highest offices and Sarah Palin didn't improve the odds. You might say Hillary Clinton, but I won't believe it until I see it.

I didint know this. Do you have a source?

again just to be clear what we are talking about this is only based on PERCENTAGE which is pretty meanignless. Not saying TB suggested otherwise i just dont want people getting confused. In reality this is pretty meaningless and has no real impact.

"Washington (CNN) – A new Census Bureau report shows a higher percentage of African-Americans than whites voted in a presidential election for the first time in history last year during the matchup between President Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

The report, released Wednesday, found that more than 66% of eligible blacks voted in the presidential contest. Only 64.1% of whites turned out to vote."

numbers wise and this is just an estimate it means:

113 million whites voted
20 million blacks voted

so if votes were split based on race (they are not) blacks would have need to vote 6 times before they could sway the election even at 5 times they would lose by 13 MILLION votes

So, George Bush set back white men. Barack Obama set back black men. Geraldine Ferraro and Sarah Palin set back all women.

Aren't we back to a non-white male?

why should we care?

I agree with that in theory. From what I've seen of this one we have now, I pray we never have another one that brings his racism with him. Race relations are worse now than any time in recent history. But it didn't have to be that way, he chose to be that way. Obama isn't much different than Johnson in that respect, except that I think Johnson was more secretive about it.

Sorry, you fail to get the point. George Bush didn't set back white men, regardless of your view of his Presidency, because there have been 40 some odd other white men who've been President, many of them very good. The comparator set for black men in the office is limited to one, in my view a complete failure, and the only women who got near the Presidency have been considered very poor choices. Therefore, I'd say you're back to a pretty strong probability that white men will be President many more times to come.

How on earth did Geraldine Ferraro set women back other than running with Mondale of all people?

In all seriousness, is this something you even believe or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing now?

The idea that a black person or a woman set back all black people and all women just seems incredibly ignorant.

I don't think I'll ever cease being shocked at how obsessed this forum is with race. Your silly "so a black man can only vote for a black man!" point wasn't even a consideration when I started this topic and I've blown away that 11 pages into it no one has even bothered to look at how the 2016 election is shaping up. I mean right now the front runners for the Democrat nomination are Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren. You also have to assume there's a very high likelihood the Republicans run a non-white candidate as they try and shake the "rich, old, white man" image to court minority votes that are starting to hurt them in national elections. I would genuinely be shocked if either Democrats or Republicans run a white man for POTUS in 2016.

I'm also surprised with all this "so you think Hispanics will only vote for Hispanics" no one has even bothered to look at how rarely a country elects someone outside the majority to lead them. Heck, right here in U.S. history it's happened exactly once. Of course a person can vote outside their race but when you take a look at world leaders it's extremely rare and I stress vote. There have undoubtedly been countries run by minorities but almost all of them have been repressive regimes that held leadership by force. I think it's safe to say as more and more Hispanics come to this country that the likelihood of us electing Hispanics increases.

You're calling me obsessed with race when you post up an idiotic thread about no white male will ever be elected President again and I counter your idiotic argument??

That's pretty rich.

I don't know what's idiotic in discussing changes in demographics. The United States has been a predominately white country since it's inception but that's coming to an end. Soon we'll be a predominately Hispanic country and whites will become a smaller and smaller minority group as time goes by. I don't know why that angers you but clearly it does.

I'm also really not sure what you countered. I discussed our changing demographics and you shrieked "RACISM!" as loud as you could while insisting no black man will ever win election because Barack Obama, or something to that effect.

If your allegations about Obama are true, that is a personality issue, not someone's race

No. White males still make up the overwhelming majority of people who are actually liable to run for the position.

How about a new survey...

Has debatepolitics seen it's last stupid, race-based thread?

Unfortunately...no.

You think Latinos only got for Latinos, and women only vote for women?

Minorities tend to vote democrat. if Joe Biden is the blue candidate in 2016, they'll largely vote for him. And if the GOP doesn't get their **** together with their treatment of minorities, Democrats are going to keep the White House for a while.

Here's how stupid the question is. 100% of DPers have said no. This is literally unprecedented. From the literal communists to the Christian fundamentalists, everyone here agrees. When you ask the question "should poor people be allowed to vote," your response isn't unanimous because there's always a couple crazies. But this question, the entire political spectrum agrees.

I've been watching Obama use race for political gain. It doesn't bother him a bit, he did it in Chicago and he'll do it in Washington.

You are a woman who won't vote for Hillary. I am also a woman who won't vote for Hillary.

I know a lot of women who voted for Hillary in the NH primary in 2008 because she is a woman. Lots of blacks voted for Obama because his father was black.

In 2012 blacks outvoted whites for the first time ever. Women are voting more and the bloc is increasing eac year.

His question was actually a valid one when you consider the results of the last few elections and the difference in demographics.

But the OP's question was 'will whites be president again' which is just silly.

Of course I don't think women will only vote for women. Everyone keeps saying the same thing and I keep saying of course not. That's probably why 100% of the people have said no.

Why is it silly?

Why don't you start compiling a list of every world leader democratically elected, without force, that belongs to a country's minority group? Unless you're telling me white people only elect white people, black people only elect black people, and so on this should be a very long list.

Of course they don't. That's exactly what I meant when I wrote:

Why - because blacks will only vote for blacks? Women will only vote for women?

Let me tell you - if the only women who run are like Hillary Clinton I'll never vote for a single female president - ever.

I find it obtuse and insulting that people assume others are driven by race and gender issues.

I'm saying that there's more to voting than race and gender.

I'm sure some people are driven by these interests - but many are not.

Aren't you a Republican? You should get used to that kind of statement coming from your side.

How so? For telling the truth about Obama sucking as president. Lets try Herman Cain next time. I will write in my vote right now.

.... Well, alright. I understand why you live in Florida now. Herman Cain? The Pokemon guy? The guy with the 999 plan? In the word of Jesus the tacomaker, A-JAJAJAJAJAJA!

I certainly don't give a damn but it's pretty absurd to come to that conclusion after ONE non white male president. You must be terrified of anyone else being in that position. Are you now gonna whine again that i called you racist?

I hope so. Besides, so far we are 43 1/2 to 1/2.

A pretty good record.
