Yea but i dont believe in AGW, i think it is a total hoax and a scam. direct me to the choice that says AGW is a total hoax

:lamo ALL your miniscule cuts to your personal usage are negated by the first seconds of one of Al Gore's many air flights. multiply that by the multitude of air flights daily.
Do you think that I'm scraping away my life's luxuries just to save a few pounds of carbon? Get real! I'm a sensible person, and I'm assuming you are as well. I live on a limited budget. I buy energy saving appliances and light bulbs, because it saves me money. I try not to waste food or buy tons of sugary/processed food, because it saves me money and it's healthier for my body. I don't leave the water running, again, because it saves me money. Those actions are smart and they get me ahead in my finances. At the same time, they are actions that are conservationist ... which is awesome, because I didn't even try that hard.

Moreover almost everyone has come to grips with current status of carbon emissions. The greatest contributors are industry, agriculture and transportation. Those are the areas that demand the biggest attention. All that does is make me realize that we've got to be contentious of what technologies are being used, and where the country needs to head in the future to stem off changing the atmosphere's chemical composition.

AC is the single biggest energy user in your home per KWH. Just a small room AC unit uses 1000 watts while a central air system uses between 2000 and 5000 watts. This huge energy consumption is for nothing but comfort and would be very easy to cut out of your life if you really think we are warming the planet with our energy use. When I was a kid AC was very rare and nearly all homes and businesses used fans and opened windows. On really hot days in school we would hold class outside under a shade tree.
Anyway I have to wonder how many people in here crying about melting ice and rising sea levels use AC.

EDIT: gredy means greedy and mmade means made:lol: My key board is fookin up. ASUS sucks!

I hear you and I agree.

AC is a big energy hog and a lot of people who waste energy and money on it could get by without it.

The AGW crowd says we are warming the planet by using fossil fuel so I have to wonder how many of them take any effort at all to lower their use of fossil fuel and practice what they preach. I have to wonder how many take any personal responsibility instead of blaming others. I have to wonder what percentage of them are not complete whinny ass hypocrites.

Just 90 companies caused two-thirds of man-made global warming emissions | Environment | The Guardian

The climate crisis of the 21st century has been caused largely by just 90 companies, which between them produced nearly two-thirds of the greenhouse gas emissions generated since the dawning of the industrial age, new research suggests.

There are thousands of oil, gas and coal producers in the world," climate researcher and author Richard Heede at the Climate Accountability Institute in Colorado said. "But the decision makers, the CEOs, or the ministers of coal and oil if you narrow it down to just one person, they could all fit on a Greyhound bus or two."

Half of the estimated emissions were produced just in the past 25 years – well past the date when governments and corporations became aware that rising greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of coal and oil were causing dangerous climate change.

Many of the same companies are also sitting on substantial reserves of fossil fuel which – if they are burned – puts the world at even greater risk of dangerous climate change......

Between them, the 90 companies on the list of top emitters produced 63% of the cumulative global emissions of industrial carbon dioxide and methane between 1751 to 2010, amounting to about 914 gigatonne CO2 emissions, according to the research. All but seven of the 90 were energy companies producing oil, gas and coal. The remaining seven were cement manufacturers.

The list of 90 companies included 50 investor-owned firms – mainly oil companies with widely recognised names such as Chevron, Exxon, BP , and Royal Dutch Shell and coal producers such as British Coal Corp, Peabody Energy and BHP Billiton.

Some 31 of the companies that made the list were state-owned companies such as Saudi Arabia's Saudi Aramco, Russia's Gazprom and Norway's Statoil.

Nine were government run industries, producing mainly coal in countries such as China, the former Soviet Union, North Korea and Poland, the host of this week's talks.....read....

Have you lowered your own carbon footprint, sawyer?

Actually I don't.

Don't get me started about air conditioning! Since they perfected a.c. (in the sixties sometime, I guess) millions of Americans have moved to places where there is no fresh water. Now personally, I wouldn't camp overnight somewhere where there was no water, but millions of well-off people live in Arizona, New Mexico, California, wherever, and water has to be piped hundreds of miles to them. These are people who are used to the government looking after their interests- what will they want done when their golf courses turn brown and their swimming pools dry up?
Let 'em suck cactus, I say.

Okay, back to our regular programming...

Only a person who knows he talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk would consider this a bait thread. Truth has a way of hurting.

Benghazi!! Benghazi...

Something like a swamp cooler is infinitely less costly, though not always practical. I think everybody should explore every possible alternative before resorting to an AC.

I believe in climate change, and I believe that human actions are a driving force of that change.

Nevertheless, yes, I use air conditioning. I disagree with the notion that AC is for comfort in my particular case. My body can't regulate temperature very well anymore after I had a heat stroke. So, in the summertime, because there is work to be done, I need the rapid cooling of an AC for self-preservation.

Well that's a good point. My sister who's now 62 and her husband finally broke down and installed central AC a year ago after 40 years of marriage. Growing up I had one of those small above ground pools - no AC. Though I must admit I do like AC and would not trade it in ... but then again, I have no problem with the amount of energy needed and I try not to abuse it and use it only on the hottest muggiest of days. Frankly, the ice sheets can melt and the oceans rise since if, today, every American stopped driving a car, stopped using AC, stopped using Jets to fly, stopped burning coal, wood and otherwise cut their carbon emissions by 90% across the board, India, China and the rest of the world would continue to make up the difference and continue increasing carbon emissions as would other emerging countries. If NJ gets too hot, I'll emigrate to Nova Scotia or move to northern Maine, which I hear is beautiful, less crowded and real estate is quite reasonable.
My understanding of the overall "carbon emissions" picture is that the USA and a good portion of Europe have been doing most of the emitting for years now, and only recently have they started cutting back slightly via regulations - whereas countries like China are starting to industrialize more, which means their emissions are rising to fill the void...

I myself have spent the last 6 years or so working in an air-conditioned environment, so I've become accustomed to having AC...not sure I could deal without it on really hot days...

Of course the AC where I work is more for the computer equipment than my comfort...
