What Does The US Government Want in Ukraine?

"By Ron Paul

May 12 2014 "
ICH" -
In several eastern Ukrainian towns over the past week, the military opened fire on its own citizens. Dozens may have been killed in the violence. Although the US government generally condemns a country’s use of military force against its own population, especially if they are unarmed protesters, this time the US administration blamed the victims. After as many as 20 unarmed protesters were killed on the May 9th holiday in Ukraine, the State Department spokesman said “we condemn the outbreak of violence caused by pro-Russia separatists.”

Why are people protesting in eastern Ukraine? Because they do not believe the government that came to power after the US-backed uprising in February is legitimate. They do not recognize the authority of an unelected president and prime minister. The US sees this as a Russian-sponsored destabilization effort, but is it so hard to understand that the people in Ukraine may be annoyed with the US and EU for their involvement in regime change in their country? Would we be so willing to accept an unelected government in Washington put in place with the backing of the Chinese and Iranians?

The US State Department provided much assistance earlier this year to those involved in the effort to overthrow the Ukrainian government. The US warned the Ukrainian government at the time not to take any action against those in the streets, even as they engaged in violence and occupied government buildings. But now that those former protesters have come to power, the US takes a different view of protest. Now they give full support to the bloody crackdown against protesters in the east. The State Department spokesperson said last week: “We continue to call for groups who have jeopardized public order by taking up arms and seizing public buildings in violation of Ukrainian law to disarm and leave the buildings they have seized.” This is the opposite of what they said in February. Do they think the rest of the world does not see this hypocrisy?

The residents of eastern Ukraine have long been closer to Russia than to the US and EU. In fact, that part of Ukraine had been a part of Russia. After February’s regime change, officials in the east announced that they would hold referenda to see whether the population wanted autonomy from the US-backed government in Kiev. The US demanded that Russian President Putin stop eastern Ukraine from voting on autonomy, and last week the Russian president did just that: he said that the vote should not be held as scheduled. The eastern Ukrainians ignored him and said they would hold the vote anyway. So much for the US claims that Russia controls the opposition in Ukraine.

Even though the Russian president followed US demands and urged the eastern Ukrainians to hold off on the vote, the US State Department announced that the US would apply additional sanctions on Russia if the vote is held! Does this make any sense?

The real question is why the US government is involved in Ukraine in the first place. We are broke. We cannot even afford to fix our own economy. Yet we want to run Ukraine? Does it really matter who Ukrainians elect to represent them? Is it really a national security matter worth risking a nuclear war with Russia whether Ukraine votes for more regional autonomy and a weaker central government? Isn’t that how the United States was originally conceived?

Has the arrogance of the US administration, thinking they should run the world, driven us to the brink of another major war in Europe? Let us hope they will stop this dangerous game and come to their senses. I say let’s have no war for Ukraine! "

Will Western Central Bankers will get their debts repaid if USA controls Ukraine?
If the USA wanted democracy, they would have already had an election, like SE Ukraine/Crimea.
What's different about "protestors" in Kiev vs. SouthEast Ukraine protestors?
Why didn't the USA condemn the killing of protestors in Odessa/Mariupol?
Why label the protestors as "terrorists, separatists, federalists, etc."?
Does the USA want Ukrainian resources?
Does the USA want to control EU natural gas supplies?
Does the USA want NATO bases closer to Russian borders?
Is the USA trying to trap Russia into a expensive Nation building debacle?
Why did the USA put a banker/oligarch in charge in Ukraine?
Why is the likely protestor sniper organizer/leader/murderer a head of National Defense (Parubliy)?
Why was Pravy Sektor in charge at Odessa/Mariupol massacres?
Is the USA attempting to "hegemonize" Energy control WorldWide i.e.(Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Syria, etc.)?
Is the USA trying to create a market for US LNG to EU?
What do these questions have to do with the USA 99%?

For Russia not to have it?

For Russia not to have it?

That in any case is what the EU was rather clumsily shooting for with the trade treaty they proposed.

For Russia not to have it?

It's not Russia that overthrew Yanukovych, it was USA/Nuland/CIA/NED/NGOs. We put a billionaire banker in charge and the sniper organizer of the Maidan shooters from the floors of the Ukraniya Hotel has been appointed Defense Minister. His troops, Pravy Sektor, are responsible for the Odessa/Mariupol massacres. We are backing these murderous scumbags. These were unarmed civilians that were murdered. Now, I hear they are using artillery on Slaviansk. More civilians.

They're trying to distract you from the evil mind-controlling device they have aimed at you from space.

There are more than a few holes in your theoretical physics. They seem to be working on you though. Try getting fitted for a tinfoil hat and a leadfoil burkha. And then there are those ever functional rose colored glasses. Have some.

It's just more U.S. dick-waving, pure and simple.

So the Ukraine votes for more regional autonomy and a weaker central government so their future federal judiciary can reverse the entire process.

Just like us.

I realize it's only symbolic but, who really does that? Dick waving? I just never thought of that as a way to get your point across. 8)

The (senseless) killing of civilians is deplorable, absolutely, but I'm going to push back against the notion that when Yanukovych was deposed that it was a coup led by the United States. I would need to see some evidence before I accepted that as reality.

And yes, I'm aware of previous coups orchestrated by us.

I thought we'd hear less from Ron Paul after he "retired" but he seems to be suffering from Jimmy Carter disease.

I think it's a combination of many of the things you said. But I really feel that the US is looking at the long term here. It realizes that the days of it's dollar hegemony are coming to an end. Currently the US spends more on defense than every other nation on the face of the Earth combined. It simply cannot sustain such large defense expenditures indefinitely. It has been able to do so because of the dollar's reserve currency status, which has enabled the Federal Reserve to print as much money as the US needs to fund such large expenditures. However, as this dollar hegemony winds down, so will US power. And what the US is seeking to do is to shape the world order that will emerge in the aftermath of the decline in US power such that resulting multi polar world will be easier for it to manage. Part of that strategy entails keeping Russia contained in a very limited sphere of influence in which it can exercise little or no control over Europe or the Middle East. By controlling Ukraine, the US can control Russian access to European energy markets. Not only that but it opens the possibility of putting NATO military capability right on Russia's borders.

We do. All the time. We take actions because we want to appear more powerful than everyone else. It's not about policy, it's about appearances and we're absurdly guilty of it. We oppose Putin because we want to show that we're still the guys that won the Cold War.

Right - depending on who you're communicating with they helped fake the moon landing, killed Kennedy, introduced AIDS & crack into black communities, orchestrated 9/11, created al Qaeda & Osama bin Laden (Tim Osman), control the worldwide drug trade…

It is necessary to repeat something that has been referred to a hundred times on these boards. Weeks before the coup, Nuland, the Asst. Secy of State was taped on a phone conversation stating "**** the EU" and Yats (Yatsenyuk) is the man to put in charge (paraphased). That was weeks before the allegedely spontaneous Maidan riots. Lo and behold, Nuland's words become prophetic and we install Yatsenuk as leader. Nuland and Hilary both acknowledged spending $5 billion surreptitiously in Ukraine. The Maidan protestors and Pravy Sektor operated out of the US Embassy in Kiev. Nuland passed out cookies to "protestors/terrorists/separatists" in the Maidan. Out goes the democratically elected scumbag and in comes Yatsenyuk, the billionaire scumbag central banker. Pravy Sektor trained in Poland with US forces before the protests. You get what you pay for and the USA paid $5 billion for something. You can pretend you don't understand, but Pravy Sektor just killed 116 people in Odessa and another 30 or 40 in Mariupol. The Maidan snipers shot from the Ukraniya Hotel under the control of Parubliy (Pravy Sektor) and shot both protestors and Policemen. Great allies, don't you think? Much like the al Qeda scum we are supporting in Syria. Why do you think Ron Paul, an ex-Senator with inside information, wrote the article?

I think the Cold War just took a little nap. Russia is awakening.

These are our Allies working in Odessa. Our money is paying for this. USA support, don't ya' know?http://nsnbc.me/2014/05/10/odessa-massacre-detail-investigation/"An investigation into the details of the massacre on more than 40 protesters in the Ukrainian city of Odessa, who rejected to recognize the legality of the US / EU – backed post-coup government in Kiev. This photo and video documentation was compiled by the editor of Strategic Culture Foundation and reveals that the massacre was a premeditated act of mass murder – a mass casualty event, consistent with NATO Unconventional Warfare Doctrine. Text edited by nsnbc. Viewer discretion is advised – Christof Lehmann, editor-in-chief, nsnbc international. The Anatomy of a Massacre on Anti-Maidan Protesters and the Killing of “Mommy Odessa”.It has become clear that the number of casualties in the Trade Unions House is far greater than initially announced. Provocateurs chased people into the building where it was possible to kill them with impunity, with great relish, and without witnesses. The fire inside the building was set in order to distract from the ongoing mass murder of Ukrainian citizens inside the house. Images reveal that most victims were not killed by the flames, but shot, garroted, beaten to death, in in at least one instance it appears, raped before being murdered."

The Cold War was ridiculous, Russia fell apart under the weight of communism and trying to match spending with the west. Capitalism didn't win the Cold War, we just had a higher limit on our credit cards.

Yeah,I believe the whole idea of the Cold War was just for us to have a common enemy to hate.

I suspect our loan is about to come due.

Iraq is over. Libya is over. Afghanistan is over. Syria is stalled. The Military/Induxtrial/Corporate/Complex wants to be fed. Like the old saying about goood and evil both growing within a man and the child asks, "Whick one grows the biggest?", and the old man answers, "the one you feed." I think it is time to starve the MIC.
