Drug Legalization

Should drugs be legalized?

Yes they do.
Tha vast majority? Do you really believe that?

Certain drugs cause paranoia and violent behavior as well as hallucinations. I type about people who are in the hospital ALL the time, EVERY single day who are on drugs. They kick your arse, but alcohol is just as bad.
But you are talking about the fringe minority. Most people who try LSD, coke, speed (meth) and opiates do not ever get hospitalized because of it or violently freak out or experience hallucinations.

Those are relatively rare outlier reactions, not the norm.

Then factor in that legalized marijuana also attracts drug tourists, of which a certain number do not go back home. Instead, they stay and consume a variety of social recesources.

I would recommend Texas do the following for three time marijuana arrestees:
- If you have been arrested three times for marijuana, you get...

A free bus pass to Colorado, three months rent at an apartment complex in Colorado, and a voucher for a few dime bags.

Greetings, Cyrptic. :2wave:

I never said the vast majority. I said that it happens, and it does. It happens with alcohol too though. These substances are literally poisons (other than perhaps marijuana). They can and do change some people's behaviors drastically.

Was there really a choice when it came to alcohol? We tried to outlaw it - we even had a constitutional amendment for a while outlawing it. The problem is, alcohol is too engrained in our culture. Americans, and before that Europeans, have been drinking alcohol for millennia. So outlawing it proved impossible.

That doesn't make alcohol good. However, in moderation, I can't say it's that bad either.

Marijuana is in a different boat there.

It really isn't. As a matter of fact, I would bet that people can smoke more marijuana and have their wits about them than alcohol.

My friends and I never had a problem getting alcohol when I wanted to as minors.

Nor did I or my friends. Hell, my kids wouldn't have a problem either. We entertain a lot and we have tons of liquor in our cabinet.

I know I can. Except for the munchies and an occasional giggle fit, I am far more in control the random times I smoke than when I drink (to any kind of excess).

One of my friend's parent would put marks on the bottles so he would know how much they had, and my friend would just add water to it. Not sure if she got caught or not. I imagine if she added TOO much water, someone would be really disappointed and bound to catch on.

The last time I indulged, I was in my early 20s, but I've certainly done both, alcohol and marijuana, and I know that I can function much better on marijuana than I ever could on alcohol, but I'm a lightweight anyway.

It's my one vice I kept over from my youth. And once my husband stopped playing hockey for pay, he joined me. It's relaxing - and we only do it when the kids aren't home. I'd rather smoke than drink any day. I feel better then, and the next day.

Mr. B & I had a brief getaway to Jamaica and just got back Wednesday. Talk about good smoking.;)

I don't really see any difference between that or having a drink after work.

I once got so high I was seeing cartoon characters. Never done that with alcohol.

I've never heard of such a thing happening with marijuana and would think that is a very rare occurrence.

I have voted "yes", but there are nuances. "Legalization" does not have to mean that hard drugs can be sold like candies. Rather, it should mean that the ever-lucrative business of recreational narcotics is taken away from the criminals and conducted in a safe (in comparison with the status quo), limited and regulated manner, from marijuana being treated the same way as alcohol to an equivalent of Victorian "opium dens" for hard-drug users.

And by the way - neither I nor any other libertarians I know personally do drugs. Some of them don't even drink.

Happens to me a lot when I go to Colorado, and I know it's marijuana because we buy it at a legal dispensary.

If I looked at your face, I you would look like a cartoon. Your eyes and mouth would be twice the normal size. It's actually pretty scary and not enjoyable.

I went to an Avs hockey game one time and my friend gave me one of his medicinal edibles. By the end of the first period, the game looked like an old Nintendo video game to me. Whenever they scored a goal was the worst - the lights would blare, the sirens would go off... just the intensity of the strobe lights was overwhelming.

Then came the worst part - becoming aware of my own heartbeat. Every time my heart beat it felt like it was going to pound out of my chest. I could actually see my chest expanding and contracting with every pulse.

Oh come on! You're at least exaggerating. Marijuana is NOT a hallucinogen for one thing.

Overdose.

Dispensary edibles are STRONG.

NOT for beginners.

I've seen the same effect in those who try it for the first time and take several hits off some very steong pot.

Think chugging half a bottle of Jack Daniels as your first drink ever.

I swear to God, I'm telling the honest truth. In fairness though, I'm the only person I know who gets affected in this way by marijuana.

But I know my own experiences. I wish I could explain why it happens to me and not other people.

I'm probably a super lightweight. If I take one or two puffs, I feel great. Once I hit a certain point though, it's cartoon-ville for me. If I smoke a cigarette while high, that also tends to make me higher and can push me off that cliff.

Okay, like I said that would be very rare. Most people are not affected in that way. I feel like I have a very tolerance to alcohol. I can feel it after just one drink sometimes. It also killed my father because he was an alcoholic, yet I'm not screaming for it be outlawed because I know damn well that wouldn't stop someone from doing it.

except, marijuana is not physically addictive, or easy to overdose or potentially lethal if one is addicted, if one tries to abstain.

The first time I ever got high, I was a teenager visiting a friend in BC Canada. Instant cartoons. I felt like I was in an episode of the surfs. I can remember how bugged out his eyes looked, like saucers. Like half the size of his head. Then I had a can of beans and I was convinced that the jolly green giant was real and coming for us.

Another time I got so high I thought a palm tree was a man with a giant 'fro. Then I wanted to start a war with Jamaica using only coconuts as ammo.

Things like that just don't happen with alcohol.

Not relevant to my point, which was as an example of taking too much of anything with no experience.
