Are Affirmative Action programs racist?[W:110]

Are Affirmative Action programs racist?

Which I have always said that affirmative action WAS necessary at a time that some people were barred from opportunity. It WAS necessary to break down cultural barriers and get more people used to the idea that the races did not have to be kept separate. There were black people who were just as eager not to mingle the races at that time too though they weren't so much a part of the cultural problem.'

But those cultural barriers came down a half century ago. That war was won. And now we need to stop fighting it and allow there to be peace.

No the war has not been won because there is still quite a bit a racism in the United States, AND there are people still alive that were directly psychologically and economically harmed by the effects of the systemic racism that existed.

Women get paid what they deserve to be paid. I know I do. Nobody has ever held me back because some people don't care for women and because women were treated like crap until 2 generations ago.
Good grief, now you are in denial of pay discrepancies between sexes!

Blacks are no longer repressed. This isn't 1956. A black man is the most powerful man in the world, and it took a lot of white votes to get him there, didn't it?
Well there we are.....RACISM DOES NOT EXIST IN THE US....BECAUSE A BLACK MAN IS POTUS!

Blacks are in the upper echelon of every business sector in this country. They are on the SCOTUS, in the government, in academia. They can buy homes, they can move where they choose, they can compete as athletes, they can do everything. That is a fact you can't deny.
How can I deny it, but that is not some kind of proof that racism/repression does not still exist in the US.

My argument isn't stupid. My argument is spot on. What are you looking for anyway? Do you want any man or woman in this country who doesn't like blacks to be shot? Deported? Tell me specifically what you expect to happen to them?
LOL...to them? They will show themselves.

The topic is AA.....which I am in favor of.

You want to change the topic to the persecution of racists.

Ever hear of the fugitive slave act?

Yes, but it has nothing to do with the US government sending boats to Africa, does it? It was about runaway slaves.

When did the US government send boats to Africa to bring over slaves, which is what Mildsteel was talking about?

I twice mentioned about Jews being exterminated, and you responded both times about how Jews were involved in the black slave trade.

That's because we are talking about what happened here in the United States. It does not mean that it was right to kill Jews. Get it?

So your point is you want to keep AA in place. Go for it if you think blacks aren't capable of reaching the highest levels of success on their own. The very successful blacks I know didn't need AA to get there.

Sure, just ignore the way they were killed by the millions. After all, a handful of them 200 years ago were involved in slave trade, right?

Did the United States government send boats to Africa to buy slaves?

Again, is that your proof that governments in the US did not allow slavery? If you have laws allowing slavery, you have acts of government allowing it.

Stop with the semantic games, many govts in the US had acts specifically allowing slavery.

Good grief!

So your point is you want to keep AA in place. Go for it if you think blacks aren't capable of reaching the highest levels of success on their own.
Oh, they can....eventually.....once racism is squashed and is not a part of our SOCIETY.
The very successful blacks I know didn't need AA to get there.
How in hell do you know this?

Edit:

And why do you think that your personal anecdotes have any validity?

A black man was voted into the most powerful position in the world, and he could not have done it without white votes. That to me says it all.

Is there racism still in this country? Yes, and there always will be. There will always be sexism, people who don't like Hispanics, Jews, Asians, and so on. There are 300 million+ people here. Not everyone will care for everyone else.

My uncle was in the Bataan Death March. That was probably one of the most horrific things that happened to American men in history. He told me he hated Japanese people for years after that, but eventually realized they didn't represent ALL Japanese people. He moved on, still bearing scars and barely being able to talk about it, but moving on. Was slavery bad? Yes. But it wasn't a government act, and it was 150 years ago, it was very few people who owned slaves, none of them are alive today, and today we have a black man as President. What more does anyone need to do?

150 years ago my female ancestors couldn't vote, couldn't be doctors, couldn't be politicians, and so on. Wow. Should I be bitter about it? Nope.

Beautifully stated.

So I ask my liberal, pro-affirmative action friends. What is more productive, more compassionate, less racist?

A. To treat a large group of Americans as inferior citizens who are just not capable of making it without government mandates and assistance, i.e. AA?

B. To consign intelligent, capable people to inferior status in their colleagues eyes because those colleagues believe they got their position not because of merit, but because of AA?

C. Or let people sink and swim on their own initiative, competence, credentials, and merit so that they finally, at last, are considered equals with their white peers?

Speaking of being killed by the millions and being involved as slaves... what is your stance on AA towards Native Americans?

I'm sure you suffer every single day from this terrible "anti-white racism".

I never said that I suffered from it personally. In all walks of life people treat better than most others simply because of my looks. And that's fine with me.

However, that does not mean that others do not suffer from institutionalized anti-white racism.

If you look at it objectively, it starts way back in grade school because white kids must share a classroom with blacks who have been scientifically proven to have a lower IQ. Their education suffers because of blacks holding back the class.

More straw from a nest.

You don't know what AA is, you have created a false narrative.

I pick C

and C is factually what AA/EEO does for ALL RACES

Liberals like racial discrimination that benefits one's own minority group.

What the **** does that have to do with what I said? If you cannot comprehend my words, you should probably just not reply. You will not look nearly as foolish that way.

I never said that I suffered from it personally.

See, that's the difference. All black people do suffer from unjust discrimination, every day of their life. And trying to compare that with not getting into a school, once if ever, is BS.

No the war has not been won because there is still quite a bit a racism in the United States, AND there are people still alive that were directly psychologically and economically harmed by the effects of the systemic racism that existed.

So by all means, because you can point to somebody who is incapable of dealing with the hard stuff we all deal with in life, let's keep AA and all the other do-gooder programs that are convincing people they are psycologically and economically harmed; i.e. inferior beings and therefore they are entitled to be treated as special. Let's don't encourage them to see themselves as equals, competent, capable human beings who hold their destiny in their own hands. Let's don't teach them that virtually all people have adversity to overcome and they are as capable as any other person in overcoming it. Yeah, that's the way to go. It's the one sure way to keep racism alive and well in this country and consign whole demographics to more generations of an underclass status so the do-gooders can feel righteous.

All black people do suffer from unjust discrimination, every day of their life.
:naughty
No, all do not.
That is nothing but bs!

But since you made such an absurd claim, prove it.

See, that's the difference. All black people do suffer from unjust discrimination, every day of their life.
Howso? Prove it. I think you are lying.

And trying to compare that with not getting into a school, once if ever, is BS.
Getting into college can make a huge difference in people's lives.

Granted, I probably had a huge advantage over my peers by not going to college and going straight into a career because I didn't need college. I was already smarter than the vast majority of college professors anyways. But getting into the right college can mean a lot to the average Joe.

More straw from a nest.

You don't know what AA is, you have created a false narrative.

I'm living that narrative and I can defend it. You on the other hand seem to have nothing but ad hominem one-liners to offer. I bet you can do better than that if you try.

Wow, I did not realize just how messed up your beliefs are. To see in this day and age this kind of racism is just unbelievable.

Howso? Prove it. I think you are lying.

Yes, people who tell you racism still exists in the US are lying. It's a ruse.

You are living WHAT "narrative"?

Is this going to be more personal anecdotal bs?

Go on, tell us about the poor repressed white person that represents a large percentage of the US white population.

I pick C too, but I do not believe AA and EEO do that for anybody. Again, I know too many people who have EARNED their credentials and MERITED their status in life, but who are too often frustrated knowing their colleagues believe they are the product and beneficiary of AA. I know too many people who want to be respected for what they know, what they can do, what they have accomplished instead of being regarded as part of some quota.

I pick C

and C is factually what AA/EEO does for ALL RACES

What could be more racist than going through life convinced that people of your own race are deserving of special privilege because the majority race is made up of evil oppressors? That the majority race has better jobs, better opportunities, more money, etc. only because they are evil, because they cheat you and other minorities. It's a belief in the inherent moral inferiority of a race of human beings and the moral superiority of your own race -- the textbook definition of "racism".

Yes, people who tell you racism still exists in the US are lying. It's a ruse.
There is no institutionalized anti-black racism in the US. That's the fact of the matter. In fact, there is institutionalized government enforced anti-white racism. It is official government policy.

And it is immoral IMO.

Do you advocate racism?
