Did Sarah Palin's Comments Cross The Line?

Did She Cross The Line?

Sarah and the GOP have about the same chance of moving into the White House in 2017 as Mickey Mouse has. = Zero.

I also hope that she runs. We all need a laugh.

There is also zero chance that she's running, and zero chance that she would get the nomination.

People still care what that halfwit has to say?

Absolutely. She had the audience eating out of her hand, hanging on her every word. Saying what people want to hear will do that for you.

What line would she have crossed?

good taste? But then she never really had a problem with that. It was a stupid line and one that wasn't necessary. It made fun of torture with I think could be a problem on the world stage if anyone decides to take her seriously. She has grown into a pathetic political punchline....let her be.

I think she has as good of a chance as any of the current sorry lot of front runners that the GOP has out there. There is no better candidate to represent the GOP of today.

Re: Did Sarah Palin's Cross The Line?

When was Sarah in the military?
Who said Sarah was in the military?

I said "we", as in myself and other soldiers.

The Grifter Queen of Wasilla is irrelevant. But I do love how it took what, two posts before someone tried to make the thread All About Obama? The marching orders are clear.

That's because you're a Liberal, disney. She doesn't represent the GOP I know about.

I hope you guys pick Biden, because he represents the Democratic Party of today. Dumb. See how silly that sounds?

Except Biden's not dumb. And neither is Palin. She's just ignorant and has no intellectual curiosity. Which is quite a bit of conservative America these days.

Actually, Biden is pretty representative of the Democratic party, just like Palin is representative of the wacko GOP of today.

I disagree about Palin. Nobody who I know votes Republican is anything like her. They complete their jobs. They don't use the words "hopey changey" when criticizing Obama. Theyknow what newspapers they read. They know about what Paul Revere did. They know North Korea isn't an ally. They don't believe there are death panels. They know the world is more than 6000 years old. They don't use the words "wee-wee'd up". They don't pray 30 times a day. And these are just a few differences. So no, she's nowhere near representative of the Republican party.

To my knowledge, I have no line when it comes to free speech...though personally, I think it was a pretty dumb statement.

Palin prays 30 times a day?

That's fair - Obama hasn't attracted attention to his Christian beliefs except when combating accusations that he's a secret Muslim or when a photo-op is required outside a church on Easter or Christmas, etc.

And see, from the start, I never took Palin's comment as being related to religion. Granted her words were spoken, but in any recap I've seen the word baptism/baptized is not capitalized, as it would be if a Christian was using it in the sacramental sense, nor did she speak about Baptizing terrorists "into the church" which is what the sacrament entails. She more spoke about baptism in a more secular way, as in "introducing" terrorists into the way she, as leader of the country, would operate. As well, this was basically a keynote speaker kind of rouse the crowd oratory that she's come to be famous for and not anything in the way of a serious policy discussion that would go along with a run for office.

Anyway, we all look at these things differently and perhaps I give her a little more slack than some because I find her refreshingly blunt and entertaining in the way she approaches public and political issues/discussions. She's doesn't have the canned, politically correct answers to all controversial questions. She's pretty much reached the stage, for me, of the old grandmother who'll blurt out something outrageous and everyone has a good laugh. I remember considering Ann Richards, the former Democrat Governor of Texas in the same way after she left politics - refreshingly candid.

Whether it is capitalized or not is rather irrelevant, "baptism" is a rite in many faiths and is never considered a simple day time activity. It is usually a demonstration of becoming one with your God, not a symbol of torture, which is what water boarding is regardless of what Obama/Bush have declared.

No Obama does not call attention to his faith, if he has one, but that is one of few things on which I give him a pass, the last president who did and was unflinching about it was Regan.

I confess I rather admire Sarah Palin, here in the Cascades there is a kinship, our women hunt bear too and she is the heart of what is Canada, a "hockey mom" may there be a special place in heaven for them. She is a polarizing figure with the skin of a moose, unlike sensitive "they won't let me" Obama. She has has used her non status and that polarization to effectively demonstrate the savagery of the left; like shouting "drill baby drill" at New Democrats here, mentioning her name draws out the insanity of socialism. We are nearing six years since she posed any kind of a threat to the sensible shoe crowd, and yet any given forum on any given day will have a Palin thread, when we have stopped even thinking about Bill Clinton. In know I can bait a good many socialists by simply starting a thread suggesting she run for president, there are always some mod actions in those.

And, like Ted Cruz, I cannot support much of what she stands for, but I admire both for the strength of character they bring to the debate. Compare that to Stephen Harper who has, in fear, silenced his benches on such topics as abortion, gay marriage, and so forth to remain in power. We have yet to see whether pretty Justin has his father's grit...another polarizing figure.

ah yes, but in the game of driving political opponents into apoplexy, there is no better name to get the socialists into a holy roller frenzy. I mean look, they're going nuts over the words she uses, some **** about praying 30 times a day, and other completely irrelevant issue.

If they keep the Democrat base terrified of her they will all die off from heart attacks and strokes, then the Republicans can coast to power.

Try this, the next time you see more than five democrats together yell "Sarah Palin is smarter than Obama!", and run. You will be beaten, but they will be in jail. Really, they are like Odie on this....

Thank you for the clarification. I thought maybe she'd said this.

The power over Democrats that she holds by simply speaking is astonishing! Think about what would happen if she actually were running for something! There are not enough trauma centers available....

Greetings, F&L. :2wave:

Ah yes, if I were still in the journalism game I would love to document the more idiotic nonsense she creates. the best was the great "Paul Revere warned the British.."

The loonies went nuts, it was a field day. Then I found what I had seen in high school, Paul Revere's account of that night, where he wrote "I warned the British Captain, if he persisted along that road he would meet a full company with rifle and canon, dry power and shot."

It would be a mistake for her to run for anything, she is best at her current roll, the spoiler. She is best as the slower car in the race team, holding back and disrupting the pack trying to catch the leader. For every statement like this, as stupid as it is, there will be a thousand far more idiotic from so called "reasonable" candidates.

Imagine what Harry "jihadists" Reid will say when she campaigns for the Republican in Nevada....ooh to have a camera on his mouth at that moment, Pulitzer's have been awarded on less.

The Republicans need to learn how to exploit their opponents strengths....like Reid

I am not religious, but I think sarah palin's comment offended my moral and religious beliefs.

To make a comparison between the rite of baptism and a act of torture gives me the impression that Palin does not know what baptism is.

Personally I could give a **** less about religion as I do not believe. As someone raised Catholic however I can assure you her words are indeed considered blasphemous by those who believe as well as most Christians who practice their faith. You don't use sacraments to illustrate points. It's considered a sacrilege and the verbal use is blasphemy. A big no no. if you will. Rather "sinful" for a self professed woman of God who often pulls out her faith card for political reasons.

Did Sarah Palin cross the proverbial line when she compared torture to being baptized?

I think she did. Of all the dumb things she's said in the past, this is at the top of that list for sure.

Thoughts?

Cross what line? To me, there is nothing more wrong with them than they are stupid and makes her own religion look bad.

Probably because you live in New England. I suspect the Republicans up there are probably a little more sane than the average Republican voter across America.

What diffence does it make, she is as irrelevant as before the statement.

If people in the south were asked to choose Ted Cruz, Rick Perry or S Palin...would Palin rate higher?

Over the last few years I have come to equate Palin with Lucile Ball in the comedy "I love Lucy." A hit show while I was much younger. I'm surprised people are still paying her attention. As for her quote, while I was in the military and working for them as a civilian, we joked and said thing much worse. I don't think it is any big thing.

But I still can't get over people are actually paying attention to her. I do suppose she can raise funds for the republicans, but as a political figure, I think she had her 15 minutes of fame and blew it.
