All this media blitz on Bundy and The basketball guy has me wondering if we now have thought police in this country. I'm not racist myself but I don't see what the big deal is if you are. We have laws to protect people from racism so your opinion should be a right and you should not be punished for what you believe. IMO firing someone for being a racist is anti American and flies in the face of free speech.

Yes. I think you have a right to be a racist. It depends how you mean punishment, do you believe someone has a right to be antiAmerican and not be punished?

Believing something is one thing. Acting on it or verbalizing it to the detriment of others is another.....

Of course you should have the right to be racist.

Racism is a believe (though obviously a ridiculously stupid one, IMO)...you cannot outlaw beliefs.

Or at least, it should never be tried...free speech and freedom of expression should almost always be allowed.

I just don't like seeing people run out of town on a rail for their personal beliefs. If the head of a comp or owner of a sports team is racist it means nothing to me. I judge him on the quality of his company or team or whatever.

What if he had come out with a USA sucks or something? Would you be for boycotting his games then?

Glad you brought this up.

Verbalizing? Ever heard of the First Amendment?

It's not a first amendment issue. If it were, what about the people who want to speak against the racist views.

You or anybody else has every right to be a racist a-hole. And everybody else has a right to say you're an idiot and an a-hole for being one.

I'm not the boycott type. I will buy your product if it is a good one no matter what your beliefs. I have even been known to watch George clueless movies because he is a good actor in good movies.

Isn't that being inflammatory?

You know, as not racist as conservatism is, it's interesting to watch conservatives run to the defense of racist a-holes. I actually DON'T think that 99% of conservatives are racist, it's just interesting how you guys pick poster boys that don't reflect your beliefs.

But do they have a right to demand you lose your job due to your beliefs?

I probably would not buy stuff from some corp I knew to be antiAmerican. I still dont understand why anyone cares what an actor thinks, if they do.

Of course I've heard of the 1stA.

When speaking as a representation of a group or company, it does become a liability to those entities to verbalize your opinion.

How come so many people think the First Amendment means there should be no social consequences for making ridiculous statements?

Not when you own the company.

Better to have racists in the open as known knowns than going underground.

It is, it was a private conversation. Freedom of speech, and who taped it and who released it?
