Maybe I seen too many Robocop movies but I feel that law enforcement is something that should only be carried out by the government. I am feel that since the motivation of any business is profit that corrections are something that should not be motivated profit.If someone gets sent to prison it should be due to the fact that individual deserves it, not because some judge might be getting some money.

I voted yes but feel that I must explain the limits of this "outsourcing". Just as national defense uses expert/specialized contractors so too can the civilian sectors of gov't There is no need to hire mercenaries but it makes sense to use commercial (or contract) carriers to transport troops and supplies when that can save time/money.

Many cities use contract personnel for support functions like impounded vehicle storage, laundry and janitorial services. What mission difference does it make if police choose to save money by using a private firing range or a prison elects to have the grass cut by a contractor?

I do not foresee having the powers of arrest or setting prison policy turned over completely to contract personnel, but use of support service contract personnel and even requesting outside audits and reviews of procedures is not "outsourcing" the entire operation.

Bold: I'd have no problem making those in prison mow the lawns and do janitorial work. In fact I wouldn't even mind if they brought back chain gangs. Put tracking collars around their necks made of 1 inch steel and they won't get very far if they try and run away.

I answered "No" before I understood that under "law enforcement" you were including managing prisons. I have no problem with out-sourcing prison management. In fact, taking away the political aspect from these jobs and the day-to-day management, might be infinitely preferable to patronage jobs and budgetary sleight-of-hand.

My ideal option was not included: No no, not 'hell no', but 'no effing way, never... ever'. But I voted 'no' as that was close enough.

The sole motivation for arresting someone and putting them in jail/prison should be did they do something to warrant such actions. Not 'can some guy make a buck off it'.

With more prisoners per capita than anyone else, the last thing we need is a powerful entity with a financial incentive to keep as many people as possible locked up. Such a plan would not only have people in jail unnecessarily, but would cost a mint.
