The thing is "running smoothly" is a euphemism for "always growing" and though there may be a good gardener in the group, they're not god.

I do not think any one group can ensure a smooth economy. Balance, fairness, and the proper structures are important. All of the above must contribute and have some hand in the system to work most effectively. The problem with the economy currently is that only a few are making the most decisions and this has led to unbalance and unrest in the system.

None of the above. It's too complex.

Nobody in Washington, that much I know...not Obama, not the Fed, and not Congress. Wall Street knows its business, but its business isn't a snapshot of the US economy. Average Americans are too average.

Leave it alone.

Most people don't want to do the work necessary to make decisions that influence and/or control the economy.

Good vigorous economies don't run smoothly. They will oscillate a little.
If that's what makes a good economy, then perhaps that IS a smoothly running economy. "smooth" in this case may not mean actual smoothness.

I tried to vote for both our Administration AND the Federal Reserve....a damned no go !
Surely , NOT Congress !

Economists, yes, but, some are jerks, with no concept nor original ideas....or conservative ideas(obsolete)...
