It's a good rant. I agree with him on 'critical thinking.'

I am interested in getting your opinion on why you voted "somewhat?" And yeah, it's an awesome freakin' line.

"We aint in that club..."

George Carlin was earning 2.5 million a year at the time of his death. George was no different than the Hollywood elitist assclowns that line up at the multimillion dollar award shows, receiving free swag bags worth hundreds of thousands of dollars each who then go on speaking evil of bankers and talking about just how much they really really really really really care about the plight of the common folk.

No...no one is going to gift you a golden pathway to wealth and success. At the same time...they arent impeding you from success either.

1) I love George Carlin and am so glad there are other people here who have at least listened to him.

2) I completely agree that we are nothing more than slaves, pawns in the most vile chess game ever played. I have reasons for this belief but they will take some whiskey and a two hour rant to explain in full.

I somewhat believe it because I believe we are capable of taking it back as soon as we wake up.

Personally, I think the internet will make or break such a realization.

Or more precisely, accurate information and easy access to it.

I agree with him on one thing - if anything stops said realization, it will be people unwilling or too lazy to bother looking past the facades.

Edit: Like myself, sometimes.

Edit 2: Part of that is because I use the internet for any such research, and there's so much bull**** out there you can never be sure you have the accurate stuff or not....damnit.

First of all, that wasn't a rant. It was three minutes of unadulterated truth. It is the kind of reality dose that is missing from our daily lives because the media and politicians aren't going to tell us, and if they did, all of their colleagues would rhetorically attack them.

What's worse, IMO, are those among us that are well-informed and actually have a beat on what's going in this country and the world is the realization that there is NOTHING we can do about it, because for all intents and purposes, the war was lost before most of us were even born and the situation has only gotten orders of magnitude worse since we've become aware of the ****ed up mess in the first place.

Its da man, man! Da man is keepin ya down, see...the man OWNS you. Da man keeps you poor. He steals your pennies in the middle of the night.

Every year there are more and more millionaires joining the ranks. Every year, immigrants start businesses. Every year people work themselves from poverty to middle income, and middle income to upper income brackets. But...

Its da man, man. Its not YOUR fault. Its not YOUR lack of preparation> Its not generations of slackers. Its not generations of spoiled ****heads going to school on mommy and daddy's dime or taking out loans accumulating debt on worthless degrees. Its not people that would spend more money on tattoos, vaping, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and video games than they would on improving their life. Its not generations of people living irresponsibly, behaving irresponsibly, procreating irresponsibly, simply BEING irresponsible. No...its da man I tell ya.

Da man. And that message was preached to you by a mutlimillionaire in an auditorium full of thousands of paying viewers.

You talk about being ****ing asleep?

Actually, I took it to mean "It's da man, and you're too goddamn lazy to call them on it".

So, really, BOTH.

Who is the They that Carlin keeps referring to? Was Steve Jobs a They? What happened when Steve Jobs went against David Geffen? Both guys can't get what they want. Was Jobs a They when he began his life? Was Bill Gates a They when he was born? I thought They only wanted bookkeepers who were smart enough to do the job and no one smarter. Why didn't They stop Gates and Jobs from making so much money?

How is it possible that They can coordinate all of their interests so that only They benefit? If the They who own solar companies benefit then that hurts the They who own coal powered power plants.

I would propose that our collective apathy is a constant which individuals and corporations take advantage of, but not necessarily something that they work to maintain.

The YOU part. THAT is right on. If people are looking at who is responsible for their life and who creates their won limitations...'you'...thats where it is at.

No one says you have to join the rat race. If you choose to join the rat race, you can choose which track you want to take. You dont have to go into debt for student loans. You dont have to buy a house. Hell...you can live free and homeless and travel on your thumb and not owe anyone anything. Theres every likelihood if you make that choice there is some free government cheese in there for you to boot.

"They" are the ghosts and boogeymen that people always dredge up to rally the masses. Hitler had a 'they'. The Klan has a 'they'. And OWS also has a 'they'. Hell...the GOP uses a 'they as do the democrats...all the time. Its the same song...just a slightly different tune.

And it works because people want a "they".

When a wee lad I used to sit at the knees of my papa and grandpa and I learned a lot about how things used to be in the stone age, when they were young. Believe it or not, people used to care about the working man.

If people want to engage in fun conspiracy thinking, I'm down with that, but how about we make it plausible and make it fit with the evidence. The most parsimonious conspiracy is that our rich elites have encouraged a focus on sexual freedom and this has taken the heat off of economic reform. Look at this board - the sex wars consume people's thinking, they consume their revolutionary fervor. When the lumpenproletariat is consumed with wanting free birth control, cheering on abortions, wanting easier divorce laws, trying to normalize poly-marriages, floating on cloud 9 about how enlightened they are for supporting homosexual marriage, manning the ramparts on behalf of transsexuals, extolling the virtues of hooking up for one night stands, when sex on the brain consumes most of their revolutionary energy, then guess who's safe from economic revolution and guess who doesn't buy into the bilge being sold to the lumpenproletariat, and guess who still has the highest marriage rate, the lowest divorce rate?

Same applies with multiculturalism. Smart thinkers in society have known the maxim "Divide and Conquer" for like, forever, and what idea gets sold to the lumpenproletariat as being a badge of enlightenment, why importing multiple cultures into one land and letting those cultures compete with each other. Then reinforce that idiocy with a slogan "Diversity is our Strength" and let the cultural zealots focus their energy on enforcing this idiocy against dissenters, meanwhile look at the racial diversity of the married couples who constitute the elite, look at the racial diversity of where they live, look at the racial diversity of where they send their kids to be schooled.

Destabilize the schools and neighborhoods of the lumpenproletariat with multiculturalism, get them to focus on sexual revolutions, each more insane than the one that preceded it, and watch how this destabilizes strong families and cohesive neighborhoods and the national culture and then exploit all this division and distraction by concentrating the wealth in the non-diverse and non-sexually permissive elite and be safe from reforms designed to achieve economic leveling because the more fractured the country, the less unanimity there will be for an economic leveling because there will be so many diverse players who can't unite due to the fact that some will be winners and some would be losers from any such reform.

Now that's a good conspiracy which aligns with the facts. There is no shadowy They who are micromanaging everything, this conspiracy simply requires that crazy ideologies be unleashed and encouraged to flourish and then allow the stupidity to spread. It's on auto-pilot. Genius.

Finally, the username comes in handy somewhere. George Carlin, a comedian with such sophisticated humor that he can choose any topic and make it hilarious and true. I especially like his routines about the self esteem movement, those are hilarious.

He lived in a country where he made millions a year telling jokes. How bad could it be. I think there is an element of truth in what he says though.

It is truer today than it was then.. Maybe somebody killed him to shut him up.... We "think" that we have a say in this country, but we really don't....

It is kind of funny, but I don't think it's true at all.

Blaming your problems on some unseen omnipotent boogie man is just an excuse for people not to take responsibility for their place in life, and also for them not being happy with what they have.

This particular conspiracy theory is in itself extremely depraved. Basically telling people that the boogeyman will stop you from success so don't even bother trying. Nothing is more soul crushing than hopelessness.

Removing hope makes people extremely easy to control. Even if this monstrous shadow government seeks to deprive us of all joy, it knows people must do so voluntarily.

I think Carlin's message is that of the conspiracy to deny people hope. Thus he was a pawn (unwittingly or otherwise) in the conspiracy to jam that giant red white and blue phallus into the people's collective arses. It just seems that some folks are patient enough to wait until the people are willing to accept it.

I think that Carlin was talking about so much more than just achieving success in life.... Government at all levels and corporations get whatever they want by any means necessary... Corruption at every plateau.....If they want your house for a parking lot, they get it and you get the boot....Licenses, inspections, permits--all in the hands of the government.. Just don't piss them off.... They are part of every facet of your life...They know everything about you... They have control.... There has always been corruption in government, but the last 50 years Big Brother has taken over.....Think about it....

There's a very big difference between being wealthy and owning people. You think we went to Iraq for some righteous moral human rights protection? You think we went to Afghanistan as some sort of self defense reason turned into some human rights protection? You think we are meddling with Ukraine for some sort of democratic dream? The truth is our government doesn't give a **** and especially not about human rights or some fabled democracy

And yet, I see, you list yourself as a Progressive. Have you thought about it?

There is a very concrete reason as to why my ideology changed from the time I left until now. The above realization that corporations rule our lives and that politicians are nothing more than their puppets was one of the biggest
