Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016?

Dems or Reps?

They both have the potential to be wide-open, with no incumbents.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

Republican, unless Hillary doesn't run.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

Republican, I can't wait to see how they desperately try to out crazy one another.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

I'm thinking Republican. The Dems will be actively disassociating themselves from Obama, but as far as interest... read: "entertainment value"... I don't think the Reps have gotten past their Tea Party/Clown Circus yet.

Both of them are likely to be quite entertaining. First, there's the Democrats and their courtship of Hillary, who may or may not run, but is likely to get the nomination if she does. It will be quite interesting to see what sorts of garbage the opposition will dredge up on her. Then, there are the Republicans. Surely, we'll see another pantheon of nutters and extremists playing to the party "loyalists", just as we had last time. Perhaps, just maybe, there'll be another sane and viable candidate, another Romney, and we'll all wait and see whether the party nutt... I mean loyalists will choose him or go for another Cain, another Bachmann, another Perry.

This primary is going to be more entertaining than the Amazing Race.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

There may be a possible 3 candidates on the Dem side (Hillary included), I see the possibility of ten on the Republican side.

The Dems will not try to destroy Hilary (giving ammunition)....the Republicans will....seems somewhat obvious to me.

Still sucks that we kill ourselves.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

To be honest, both should be interesting, but I think the Republican Party trying to find its post-Bush voice will be more significant.

The Obama brand hasn't been (thus far) too detrimental for the Party's innards, so whether or not the Democratic Party will continue down the direction of liberal (Obama represented a transformative candidate with naive presumptions that he would be a transformative form of a liberal), but not very liberal voice will be interesting to see. That being said, there's little utter dissatisfaction within the Democratic Party thus far.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

I think the Democratic one will be more interesting, but the Republican will be more entertaining. The Democrats will likely have only a few candidates and mainly argue about the issues, while the Republicans will have a dozen and continue to play their "no true Scotsman" game of who is the REAL conservative and try to out-do each other for right wing cred.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

That is a tough call since both will be running candidates saying that they are not like Obama. It will be amusing to see Hillary running against the Obama foreign policy that she represented just as it was to Romney running against gov't mandated medical care insurance that he signed into law as govenor. The field seems to be more wide open and diverse on the republicant side and they can make much more convincing arguments about not being like Obama. The 2016 race may seem a bit like the 2008 race when both sides ran on being not like Bush but the opposing party gets the edge in that kind of race.

If Hilary and biden do not run we will actually have a breath of fresh air.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

The dem primary wont but much to watch if Hillary runs as the major contenders will probably just step out of the way. Although it will be fun to watch "native american" Elizabeth Warren vilify Hillary about big business and keeping the common worker down in the primary and then having her tout Hillary as the common workers hero in the general

The GOP has been fairly consistent in who they choose for president. Since the 50 state primaries started in 1972 every single GOP nominee has been a sitting president or 2nd place in a previous primary with the exception of GWB in 2000

Despite all the insanity the GOP goes for experience every time

I see either Santorum, Perry, Jeb Bush as the front runners for the nominee. Santorum is the runner up from 2012, Jeb has a presidential family and polls have shown his name won't be a detriment (Obama has done wonders for Bush's legacy), and despite his one gaff Perry is the longest tenured governor of a major state and is much more establishment than tea party.

The aura might be fresh, but it's not very likely the direction will be that different.

I'm not entirely convinced that the elected choice will come from those three, but I suspect the primary will bear that out. Perry might come out and be able to overcome some of his previous campaign's blunders, but I think what was interesting was the lengths some of the other candidates were about ready to go to undermine the idea that Texas's brand of success was as a result of policies and administration Perry himself did versus the federal government. Jeb, among my two or so top choices, I think is a strong candidate, but I am not entirely convinced that the anti-Bush sentiment has faded as much. Nor am I convinced that the American public's propensity to dislike dynasties (to a fault, in this case) can be overcome.

On a personal note, I would hate to see Santorum have to make a choice to continue his campaign or not should another issue come up within his family. I don't generally agree with the man in the slightest, but to me, I think his daughter's circumstances might be a regular feature for the family and seeing as how it was rather obvious he was torn between family and the campaign, I'd hope he wouldn't have to make such a choice again.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

While I find it easier to align myself with the Democrats...I promise you that I will watch EVERY Republican debate.

Re: Which Presidential primary race do you think will be the most interesting in 2016

The Democratic Primary doesn't seem overly interesting seeing as though if Hilary runs she has it essentially in the bag. I think the Dems as a whole realize she is their best chance to get somebody in the WH. As for the GOP, it will probably be interesting. The primaries will probably be all over the place with candidates trying to out-conservitize (if thats a word) each other.

I dont see Santorum as a strong candidate I was just pointing out the history. His ideas are too far out there and hes not very charismatic. As for people not liking dynasties the Bush's still have lots of fans in the GOP and the dems are all but certain to nominate Clinton if she runs seems that there are plenty out there who don't seem to mind.

The throw em out tea party still has some influence in the GOP but its shrinking not growing. Guys with experience like Huckabee, Gingrich and Ryan could have a shot but I dont see the newcomers both to national office and running for president, like Paul, Cruz and Rubio, to have much of a shot other than to be the "anything but" choice

The GOP just posted its top 32 candidates for a straw poll, this time of year that deserves a bracket. Interesting to see the real non candidates that are on it.

I wouldn't characterise the Obama presidency as having been a particularly liberal one, would you? What do you think he has done that would have been ideologically anathema to a mainstream Republican in the HW, Reagan or Eisenhower mould? The ACA is a classically liberal economic plan, without a hint of socialised medicine. So 'liberal' in an economic sense. Is that the sense you meant?

I think the Democrats need to continue the trend of bringing in fresh new faces. Not old guard like Hillary or Biden, but new guard, essentially like what Obama was.

Really? I'd say it has been Obama's relative inexperience that has ham-strung his time in office. Had he got the key to the Oval Office with another 8-years in Congress, he may have been able to manage his relations with the Hill a lot better. If I were an American, I'd be rooting for Hillary - how much more experience could a candidate possibly have? She's be the most qualified President-elect in US history.

I would. Liberal and conservative are relative to time and space. Conservatives in the early 21st century have started putting a premium on increasing privatization and disliking certain types of government mandates wherever the present themselves. The ACA represented something conservatives could, abstractly speaking, tolerate, say 15 years ago, but no longer. As far as actual time spent in the Presidency, I always think of the Presidency as much more likely to snip off most of the energy of any platform.

Democrats. It is going to be interesting to see how they will try to out distance the others from Obamacare without being audited.

He's done okay at managing the Presidency, but I too think more experience and institutional knowledge would have better served him.

Let's not go anywhere near that far. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and John Quincy Adams alone have much more interesting resumes than Hillary. For a lot of these people, we're talking about an institutional knowledge that might have been matched by someone of the likes of Henry Stimson. Mrs. Clinton, on the other hand, no such luck.

Im sure they will tout how they can fix all the flaws and make it run perfectly or will advocate for a single payer system

What Obama was is not likely to get the nod in either party; an unknown smooth talker with no executive experience. ;)
