CNN Poll: Most see Russia as a threat to U.S.

Is Russia a threat to the USofA

Don't know what you expect. The U.S. depends on the international order, and Russia has acted out against that order twice now.

As we think of ways to down grade our military forces, Russia [China and others] have been up grading and modernizing theirs. If this seem threatening then it probably is.

Somebody hit the Kremlin with a massive cyber-attack this morning. Hope it wasn't us because that IS threatening.

Are we really such ******s? Why are we so friggin scared of everybody and their brother?

Is Russia our enemy?

Is Russia a real threat?

Or are people just panty-waists that have been brainwashed into fearing everything?

I don't think they'd get into a nuke exchange, though they would quicker than us. But financially, by themselves, they're not much of a threat. Combined with China or a few other countries they could cause problems. They supply half the energy for Europe, and though it would hurt them, it might send the global economy into a nosedive if it ripples.

Energy experts said Russia had the power to cause problems in markets across Europe, even though peak winter demand was past. “Europe still relies heavily – in some cases 100 per cent – on Russian gas. And if that was interrupted very suddenly, there would be difficulties all round,” said Lord Howell, the former energy secretary.

But the White House brushed off the Russian announcement as less of a blow for EU economies than in previous years. Josh Earnest, the White House spokesman, said reduced Russian exports would not have an immediate effect since stocks in Europe were above normal levels because of a mild winter. Structural changes in the industry also mean that less of Europe’s gas went through Ukraine.

When I was a kid, we use to have atomic bomb drills every so often where we'd duck and cover under our desks. That was because of the threat from Russia. (USSR)

.Even talking about the possibility of conflict 'ripples' the global economy.

Look at the stock market over the last few. Even talking about the possibility of conflict 'ripples' the global economy.

I see Russia as the poor, rotten bully on the street corner, nobody likes but doesn't screw with, because he doesn't have as much to lose and he's angry for not being popular.

And the global economy is so connected and fragile from the massive debt.

they're only a threat to us if we keep doing the stupid dick measuring contests with them. Ukraine is about as much our business as Mexico is theirs.

here's what i want the US to do about Russia :

1. fix our damned roads
2. hire some damned people to do some damned **** so that our economy is better
3. replace the damned transportation energy model
4. upgrade the damned electrical grid

that's what the US should do about Russia. that's also what the US should do about China. stop poking the damned tiger who is half a world away. Europe, this one is on you.

Hopefully, we know better now. Occassionally, I still see fallout shelter signs on old buildings....

Maybe that's why we ducked and covered...very few basements where I was raised.

It was also right next to Ft. Hood TX.

Yes, Russia is engaged in actions what will cause dramatic nuclear weapons proliferation around the globe among unstable petty dictators and theocrats.

Russia's Defense Budget: 90 Billion dollars a year.
United States Defense Budget: 683 Billion dollars a year.
Russia GDP: 2.4 trillion.
United States GDP: 17.4 trillion.

Russia cannot even afford to fuel its Navy enough to project power worldwide. There is zero chance, zero chance at all that Russia could challenge the United States as a the world's most powerful nation.

How many countries has the US invaded since WW2?

How many countries has Russia invaded since WW2?

Has Russia ever used an atomic weapon on another country?

The USofA is a threat to plenty of countries in the world isn't it?

Is Russia really any worse?

And wouldn't any kind of attack on the US basically be suicide?

Is Russia stupid enough to outright attack the US?

How are they doing that?

Can't the same thing be said about what the US does?

No basements...yeah, that would be a problem.

I remember doing that as well.

A wooden desk is a great shield for nuclear explosions. :lamo

Russia is always the 'big bad' in our news, same with China. It's because the U.S. can't really touch them in any way, or influence them. They are a threat to U.S. manifest destiny and the new world order of neo-liberals and globalists. They routinely give the UN and the U.S. the finger, and there is absolutely nothing the U.S. can do about it, aside from broadcast brainwashing non-sense to their people and issue scary threats. The reality is that they are likely to be the next seat of civilization, because western Europe and the U.S. are losing their grip.

There's not much the U.S. can do to touch Russia or China, aside from send in its CIA agitators to places like the Ukraine to get it to split its loyalties away from Russia. The Cold War never ended, folks. The U.S. is claiming that Russia is not the legit ruler of the Ukraine, but neither was the interim government in the Ukraine. Russia is just making sure the Ukraine does not fall to the west, just like the U.S. would do with any of its pawn states.

So you're saying that Russia is doing EXACTLY what the USofA does, but because it's them and not us, we get to have a hissy fit?

Sounds about right to me.

Words cannot express how much I enjoy potato vodka.

Wicker furniture is the best shield.

So what?

Most people re-elected both G.W. Bush AND Obama.

Clearly, most Americans are ignoramuses.

The bottom line here seems to be that the USofA always needs a boogieman.

And any boogieman will do.

The bigger the better.

Damned good post.

Russian people I have met through my mom's side are interesting. A lot of the people there aren't as well educated as the rest of Europe, and the more east you go, the more its like traveling back in time. As far as the political mindset goes, I think some of them want to revive the Cold War, because they miss the status and power and miss certain aspects of the USSR.

They like when the leaders talk tough to America, but they don't expect to start a massive war with the US. Its just a popular form of rhetoric that brings certain generations together there. Russian people don't want to nuke the US. They don't always trust America, but if Americans are going to go off the deep and think the Russians are coming lol, they are completely unreasonable.

I am not afraid or concerned about Russia.
