I'm going to pretend, against all demonstrable evidence to the contrary, that your post was thoughtful and insightful, and say that Obama is not stupid, but, like Bush II, in over his head. He is actually extraordinarily intelligent, but not able to handle crises well, as is shown by every time the administration stutters when some new emergency happens. His handling of the PPACA passage and especially Benghazi shows that he's not able to handle adversarial situations well.

Yes, because of course nobody reading this thread has ever made an embarrassing gaffe in their life.

If this kind of silliness was a regular feature with Obama that'd be one thing, but to screw up every once in a while is perfectly human.

Another aspect that bothers me is that politicians aren't allowed to be human anymore. Perry forgetting one of his points... Obama misspelling "respect"... each man just had the misfortune to have a brain fart in a highly public event. That's all it was, a brain fart. We all have those from time to time. Yet "we" can't let them live it down.

None of our presidents were stupid. There's a difference from being an intelligent individual, as Obama very much is, and being a good president and politician. This extends outside to a number of other politicians as well, of course. For example, I never thought Romney was dumb, not a chance, but he didn't suit my preferences to be president.

He's not a genius though, that word shouldn't be thrown around lightly. Plenty of extremely intelligent folks aren't geniuses either.

Also, misspelling a word doesn't mean much of anything.

Politics is completely different from geopolitics. Geopolitics is like playing chess not checkers like the current administration.

I think the problem with Obama is his narcissism and he refuses to surround himself with anyone who he believes may be better than himself so the results were that the Obama administration is second rate.

My immediate thought was that it was a foolish question. But then...I had to reflect a little bit. We dont have grades from HS or college, there are no transcripts to judge, nor scholarly writings. There are no records that he actually qualified to get into graduate school based on his academic ability, we have no trial attorney experience to judge from, he was an assigned adjunct teacher with no record of students coming forward and espousing his brilliance, his only 'real' job was as a community organizer and look at the product of THAT effort. He voted present more than for or against legislation and during his tenure as a state representative he admits he spent a fair amount of time in pursuit of the white powder. He has zero by way of significant legislative achievements as a senator.

Stupid...no...but all we really know is that he can read a teleprompter like nobodies business.
