Every 4 to 6 weeks we'll go to the Hard Rock in Tampa for the evening on a weekend. May return that night or stay overnight. About every 3-4 months will go to an offshore casino boat. May stop for a while if we see a large casino while traveling.

We only play slots, not tables, and not large amounts. We've never lost more than $200 for the night nor came out more than $200 ahead. Usually will be down about $150 for both of us - which I see as doing well for 4-6 hours at a casino. However, they can be costly stops as we buy the best meals they offer as it seems foolish to be cheap on food since playing at a casino is basically throwing money away.

Well, up until about a year ago, I was good for once a month...where I donated my $1,500 to the slots and went home. Feeling remorseful and hung over. For some reason, I've lost that compulsion which is a good thing. If I had to guess how much money I've spent at casinos in the last fourteen years since returning from Wisonsin's boonies, I'd say probably $100,000. A complete and total waste...except it was an awesome stress reliever. So maybe if I look at it as therapy, I wouldn't feel so bad. ;) Had I just flushed the money down the toilet instead, at least I'd have saved on gas.

I used to get my meals comped through a dollar-comp program. They had a wonderful steakhouse in-casino. Five-star service and food. We'd go a few times a year and take guests. I'd usually bring home a delicious meal when I went because Tom didn't join me. I was a very generous tipper -- well, I still am that. Like you, I figured I'm shoving $$ down a rathole so I may as well share with others who will get something out of it besides a high. ;)

Last night we went out for a few drinks, and I couldn't resist playing their slots. I probably broke even or spent $50.

When I feel like gambling, I log on to Fidelity.com. I like the odds there. I have never been in a casino, and have no intention of going to one. I don't gamble of other activities like horses, dogs, or sports. No scratch off tickets or lotto (the worlds biggest voluntary tax).

I lost twenty bucks once at the slot machines.

Gambling isn't my demon.

Free? I guess you don't play slots much.

I NEVER play slots, I understand stastics too well. I either only play poker with other players, the only time I engage in such foolish "Lottery behavior" is when I play craps.

"Sometimes you've gotta roll a hard six"

To be honest, I don't even gamble much or partake in friend's poker games. I consider it foolish. But I do enjoy the lights, sights and sounds of a casino. I'll gladly drink next to my brother as he plays.

I'd say probably $100,000.

I'm probably in no position to judge because I've blown my hard earned money on stupid crap too, but...damn.

Loud, obnoxious places full of drunken gomers who don't have the ability to vacation somewhere with actual beauty and culture. Instead, you get choked by cigarette smoke that invades your clothing, buffet options that are frequently nauseating, and cheap assed idiots that think that if they go to Vegas and see a fake Paris, fake NY, fake pyramid and plaster of Paris Venice they don't have to actually travel and see the world.

Plus...you can't win, really, stop trying, you don't have a secret trick to beating the house, take that money and send you kids to a good college.

I only play craps. Its the only game thats fun and you get a lot of conversations and camaraderie at the tables.

But I like low minimum tables, and those are hard to find if you're not in some dump in Nevada.

I've seen the Luxor and I've seen the Pyramids of Giza, the Luxor has better shops and better food.

I used to live in Vegas and was in casinos all the time. They were a good place to go for a little food, a little drink and a little socializing.

It took me about 10 minutes to figure out that slots were simply money sucking machines so I played blackjack. If you've got your wits about you you can play blackjack all night long and break even. I also like poker and even still play every week but that game can turn into a serious marathon. More than once I got to a table at lunch time and stopped for breakfast on my way out.

Today my only gambling is a home poker game once a week.

They're called Slot Whores for a reason.

I'll contradict you on craps. Best game in the house. I know how to play like the 'big boys' but I don't have the nerves for it. I've done it any number of times, but it was never my bliss. When you're playing craps the right way, the house has very little edge.

I have a few friends who go pretty hard on the blackjack tables as "fun income"
I've got better stuff to do than make a few bucks off counting.

I really think slots are one of fastest ways to lose money in a casino. A table with lots of people at it, preferably your fun friends, are much slower. However the bets require more nerve.

Craps isn't a bad came, but you can lose money fast.

I disagree on black jack. To check it out my wife and I played black jack at home per dealer Vegas rules, taking turns being the dealer. Plays thru the decks a dozen times. The dealer lost only 1 time.

The odds are the odds. Ultimately that is why the house always wins and why casinos limit maximum bets (no mega bets). A single million dollar might be won even with odds favoring the house. But a million $1 bets and the house always comes out ahead.

You do, of course, realize that slots are about the worst odds in the casino? But as long as the fun generated is worth the money...power to you.

Me? I used to be a bit of a gambler...until I realized that a) no casino game can be beaten without cheating and b) even if you figure out a way to cheat (like counting cards at blackjack), as soon as you start regularly winning, the casino will just ask you to leave.

After that, I only go for the occasional couple of hands/spins (blackjack/roulette - never was a fan at all of slots...after seeing rows of sad looking seniors banging away at slot machines on my first trip to Las Vegas, I immediately developed a repugnance for slots). There are just other things I would rather spend my money on.

But each to their own.

I LOVE the HRC in Tampa. I love eating at Fresh Harvest too. We prefer to go when we can get all the king crab legs we can eat. We sit in there for hours! Food heaven!

I play poker. You have to be in the right frame of mind to get it right. The best I've done is to come out about £450 up on the night and I'm sure that I'm winning overall.

I have a system for never losing at the roulette table..... Guess what it is!

Here in Toronto, I'm not really near a casino - the prudes on our city council, our mayor not included, didn't want to corrupt us poor rubes - they'd rather tax the life out of us than allow us to voluntarily pay tax via gambling. I do like casinos when I get a chance to go to one of the ones that are within driving distance and I have been to Atlantic City, although not recently. They're good fun, loud and enjoyable, unless you're one of those ones who wears depends so you can stay at your favourite slot machine without having to answer nature's call.

We do have a world class racetrack - horses that is - which I enjoy, particularly in the summer. Horseracing seems to be a bit of an "older" crowd game, however, with very few young people interested. I guess it's not fast paced enough with constant/instant gratification with every waking breath.

Like most fun things, however, gambling can turn into an addiction - moderation in all things is a good motto.

other. i like casinos, but not for gambling. i generally go once a year to hang out with a buddy who lives up north. i mostly just go to walk around, have a few drinks, check out the entertainment, and have a great dinner. plus, when you stay at the hotel, you can get up at random times during the night and go downstairs to see what's going on. you can definitely see some interesting stuff there.

i've found that if you're going to win, it pretty much happens in the first ten minutes. i'll spend like five bucks on the slots, and then if i win something, i use it to buy a drink. then i quit gambling. the room itself is expensive enough; i don't need to lose my ass on top of it. i don't find that to be fun. people watching, on the other hand, is fun.

With roulette, I'm guessing you don't play. But I have to say I've done very well at roulette, making several thousand several times. It's just a matter of finding a consistent "dealer" and tracking the patterns. Most numbers I've hit in a row was 6. And I find if you tip well when you win, the dealer stays pretty consistent.

But if the dealer is more random in his/her spins, it's all a guessing game and you're definitely going to lose.

I've been to both too, Egypt has better camels and better food, but the beer is enema water.

We've tried something on the slots and we've always broke even or made a few dollars in the long run even if there for hours. However, it gets boring after a while and basically is spending 6 hours for both of use to end up maybe $50 or $100 ahead. Friday we were at Hard Rock for about 6 hours and ended up $103 ahead for both of us - which I count as WINNING - because of not losing. I don't know why this works, but always has. But won't bore anyone with it.

However, they are expensive outings overall when the food, room, gas and usually going to do other things plus some shopping elsewhere. So it only cost about $3K to win $103.

You're lucky. I was planning a Luxor trip one goddamn week before they went into revolution.

Stupid Egyptians. Couldn't they have waited til my vacation was over?
