Obamacare

does fighting the ACA help republicans?

Nope. In fact, the main reason they're fighting it is for political leverage.

People are seeing what a giant facepalm Obamacare is, and the Republicans are laying in wait to go, "We told you so. Come back to the side that makes sense. You won't lose your job or get a tax fine.".
 
Suffice to say that Obamacare has hurt so many that it has already passed the threshold of UNIVERSAL dislike.

Use Oregon for an example. What a Liberal paradise Oregon is. But NOBODY, count them, NOBODY in Oregon has signed up for Obamacare. Universal dislike cutting across all party lines.

For most of us, fruitcake is used as a bit of joke around the holidays... it's usually petrified and been passed around for years.

How does a party damage itself by fighting bad law? The question is are the democrats hurting themselves by defending it?

Besides the fact that this 'law' has been rearranged to suit the whim of someone with a 'pen', it matters not if the Republicans continue fighting it, the moment there is no longer a Democrat in the White House, it will be rearranged again, more likely to suit the needs of the general populace, rather then the needs of the few.

The current administration could have saved face if they had admitted from the get go that it was not proceeding as planned, and took it a step at a time, rather then attempting to throw the whole thing out there as their flag and have it become the farce that it has.

Obamacare is one of only a very few issues that the American public is on the Republican side. According to RCP 39% of Americans are for the Law, 52% are against. These percentages haven't changed much ever since the law was first passed back in 2009 when 38% were in favor and 53% against. Without the ACA, 2010 would have never happened and the Democrats would still be in power in the House. The only chance of the Republicans gaining the senate, rest solely on the abatross of the ACA.

Now if you are asking if shutting down the government last October trying to defund the ACA, now that was stupid. Here is some history and the percentages, again thanks to RCP.

They are defending a very bad law that was passed in a rush. The democrats passed it before Scott Brown could be seated thus depriving them of a filibuster proof senate. The law wasn't ready and most of them knew it. But the Democrats passed it anyway as they knew nothing would ever get passed once Brown took his seat.

One could say is that the ACA is the only thing that is standing in the democrats way of making the Republican Party irrelevant.
 
Yes. They should have forced complete and full implementation of Obamacare since day one. Its a **** sandwich and rather than fight it, they should have forced the people that supported it without reading it to eat said **** sandwich. All of it.

That I did. I have been trying to find the state by state polls on the ACA. Here is what I have found and how the ACA is effecting the senate races in those states.

1 State by state on the ACA (21 Feb 2014)
National Average 39% for 52% against
Arkansas IMPACT 27% for 63% against February 2014 Rep Cotton leads Dem incumbent Pryor by 4 points
California PPIC 44% for 46% against February 2014 No Senate Race
Colorado Quinnipiac 37% for 60% against February 2014 Dem Udall lost a 14 point lead and now leads by 2 points
Florida PPP 40% for 49% against January 2014 No Senate race
Iowa Quinnipiac 25% for 52% against Dec 2013 Dem Braley up by 3 points, was up by 9
Louisiana PPP 33% for 53% against February 2014 Dem Landrieu down by 4 was up by 12
Michigan Harper 35% for 55% against January 2014 Dem Peters down by 8 was up by 4
Montana PPP 31% for 58% against Dec 2013 Dem Walsh down by 14
New Hampshire PPP 39% for 46% against January 2014 Dem Shaheen even with Brown was up by 10
North Carolina PPP 38% for 51% against February 2014 Dem Hagan down by 7, was up by 16
Virginia Rasmussen 41% for 54% against January 2014 Dem Warner up by 21

Only in Virginia it seems voting AYE on the ACA isn't hurting the Democrat incumbent senator or the new challenger for an incumbent democratic senate seat. The big question is can this one issue be kept in front of the voters from now until November and the big issue and not the other issues the Republicans are on the wrong side of?
 
I really don't like the poll options, I'm not really a supporter of Obamacare but at the same time, I think it's stupid that they are still fighting it. They've voted to repeal it like...40 times? (I've lost count) and they failed each time. Their obsession with a bill that's here to stay is probably not going to attract the moderates.
