Take some time to LISTEN to this story.

If you can look me in the face and tell me that she's faking her story, then you deserve to have your own gender icon questioned for the very same reasons.

Has nothing to do with "faking". Has to do with her not knowing what the hell she wants.

I wanted to be a professional baseball player at age 11. Would you pin a 20 dollar bill on a 5th grader with a baseball glove and drop him off at Yankee Stadium to never look back?

Not sure that is the same thing, but fir the record, parents go to great lengths to make their children the athletes they want to be.

I'm not completely sure how any if this works. However, if it allows a person a happiness they wouldn't have otherwise, I see no reason for me to condemn it.

You remember that when your 7 year old is begging and pleading you for chocolate cake for dinner.

Yes, and girls were icky, not boys. I wanted to run and nap knock things over, not have tea or dress dolls. I'm saying it is possible. And I suspect better found earlier than later.

LGBTQF. The future.

Don't be such a bigot. It's LGBTQTTIF.

The foregoing is intended, I suppose, as hyperbole, but there is a point, I think.

The homosexual-rights movement always has, and always will have the problem that no matter what they do, what acceptance they may gain or hope to gain, they will always represent only a tiny, freakish minority of the human population. Their perversion is contrary to nature, and the course of natural selection is to weed it out.

They've taken “transgenderism” in under their wing, which is an even tinier, more freakish, and more perverted deviation, but it at least adds a little bit to their numbers.

It should never be any surprise to see advocates of other sexual perversions seeking, and sometimes gaining, inclusion under the LGBTQWTF… movement. Anything that adds to their numbers.

Did you even watch that video in its entirety?

How about this. You go back and listen to it, and then maybe I'll listen to you.

EDIT: Your baseball analogy is a terrible one. Gender is not something that somebody decides they want to be. Do you have any idea how much agony transgendered people endure because of attitudes that try to box them into an identity that they inherently do not fit into?

It makes me so happy that these kinds of attitudes are literally dying out. :)

I watched it. He does a great impersonation of a girl.

Okay. Time out. For the sake of argument, how do I know that you're a male? How do you know that I'm a male? Because of those little icons we selected when we signed up to DP?

Who are you to judge her? You don't know her. You don't know what's inside her mind. And you obviously didn't listen to her clear, consistent understanding that she is a girl.

I pray to God, if he does actually exist, that you never, ever, ever have a gay or trans son or daughter.

Seriously? I swear to some of you people it's like science doesn't even exist.

No, she is a boy, not a girl. Get it straight.

Gender is not something that somebody decides they want to be.

No, it's not. It's something you're unalterably born with.

Either you have an XY chromosome set, and male parts, making you male, or else you have an XX pattern, and female parts, making you female.

Of course, the entire “transgender” thing is about people who think they can choose to be something other than what nature has unalterably created them to be—men who want to choose to be women, or women who want to choose to be men. It does not work that way, and it never will. Those who think that is does are, at best, severely deluded.

Says the guy with positively zero understanding of psychology.

I'm sorry, come again? Actually, wait, don't. It probably doesn't need to be said. Transphobia is never a good thing to spread.

No, she is a boy, not a girl. Get it straight.

Oh so you know her via an 8-minute video better than she has known herself all her life? That is a profoundly arrogant claim you have just made. Tell me, ye who knows someone better than she knows herself: Do transgenders choose to be trans? If so, why?

Again, I accept people for who they are. That isn't a phobia at all, or even any sort of bigotry. Maybe you shouldn't use terms you don't understand.

Yeah, you're describing the mind. What of it?

Says the guy with positively zero understanding of psychology.

But maybe he's lying about his gender, so maybe he's a "she"? ;) I mean, hell, if she--I mean he--is not gonna believe one person's gender, why should we believe his? Or why should you believe mine? Etc., etc., etc.?

Right back at you.

Yeah, you're describing the mind. What of it?

You did not answer my question. Do transgenders choose to be trans? Yes or no?

Has the idea of transgendered children been taken too far? In this Globe editorial, it talks about how due to the more public knowledge of gender identity disorder, kids are being diagnosed with it when they really shouldn't be. Instead of seeing as a phase like most experts, parents and doctors view it as gender identity disorder instead of just a phase and begin the life-altering surgeries and treatments when it may in fact just ruin their lives. Most experts recommend just telling your son or daughter they are boy/girl and it will pass.

Has the diagnosis of gender identity disorder in children been taken too far? I say if it is starting to harm children and scapegoat real issues it has indeed gone too far.

It's a very tricky issue. On the one hand I think that sort of thing isn't the kind of decision that should be made rashly, and there are real benefits to waiting to see if there is another way to help your child.

On the other hand, from what I've heard, the hormone treatments that precede a full sex change are much more effective if started before puberty.

I honestly don't know what I'd do if my kid was ever in that situation. I don't feel like I know enough to make an informed decision.

That is because they stop traits the individual doesn't want to see from forming. In essence the illusion is better.

Right back at you.

Or you could just be wrong about them being the opposite sex. Accepting facts doesn't make someone bigot.

Did I ever say they did? Why does this matter?

Yeah, I get it. But I see that as a good thing. I have nothing but compassion for people in that situation. It has to suck really badly to know in your brain that you're one gender, but be physically stuck in the body of another. And unfortunately crude surgery and massive overdoses of hormones are the only treatment available.

Hold it. Are you seriously attempting to contend that the facts are on your side? If so, what are these facts, and how can we trust them?

Did I ever say they did? Why does this matter?

Just answer the question already. Can people choose to be transgendered, yes or no?

Yes.

There's nothing wrong with chocolate cake for dinner, so long as there's a nice balanced plate of food for dessert. They're going to eat it all anyway, so what difference does it make which order they eat it in. And what does any of this have to do with feeling like you're in the wrong body. You're talking about very shallow childhood issues and desires and trying to equate them to the depth of gender identity disorder? Not surprised really. Y'all seem to all be pretty shallow unless the conversation is god, guns, and/or greed.
