So, what do ya think?

If there is a civil war in the near future, who's gonna fight who? What could be the outcome?

Nope. If random YouTube videos were accurate to any degree, we'd all be posting from FEMA camps by now.

No. This is silly.

I really think the US is as good a place to live as it has ever been, if not, even better. People who are eating and happy dont revolt. We as a country are happy.

The US civil war is somewhat sad from my perspective.

After almoust 200 years of civil war in Germany (between the small states) the conclusion learned was that every political leadership in the future should always avoid such divisions to take place.

After the Austrian civil war in 1923 and the birth of the second republic after WW2 in 1954 the two main political parties created a "contract of friendship" in which they swore to never call for violence against the other again. Which now is a kind of "code of honor" in the republic followed by every party.

I guess the disapointment in the North after victory and the resentment in the South towards the North because of the brutality with which the North pilleged and occupied the South, prevented any reconsiliation.

Or am I wrong with seing this that way?

That being said, I think it highly unlikely that civil war will break out in the US again.

Is a civil war imminent? With no country specified, Syria could be considered an ongoing civil war. Sunni vs. Shia civil war in Iraq may be imminent and is on a small scale today. I would keep a watch on Thailand as the possibility of a civil war there is very real. But in the United States, no.

Although our political parties love to divide, segregate us into groups and factions, in an attempt to conquer us to get our votes, it hasn’t been fatal. I think this is dangerous as it is possible the continuation of the divide and conquer strategy can cause certain groups to come to hate other groups and leave us as a nation divided. But most Americans, at least so far recognize this attempt for what it is, a political strategy where one party tries to get the people to hate the other more than they hate them.

What will be the long term effects of this divide and conquer strategy? I really do not know. But as long as it remains in the political arena it probably is no big thing. But if divide and segregate starts to spill over into other areas of society than we will have a huge problem. Just some of my thoughts.

I would say it depends on many factors.

The collapse of the dollar, some sort of event that knocks out the electric grid for more than a few days, outbreak of a deadly pathogen, attempts by the FedGov to confiscate the guns, etc could definitely spark internal chaos and mayhem.

Of course not. That's absurd.

And how could it be 'imminent' if we're talking decades and centuries?

Why is it silly?

When my wife and I, we are both army veterans, want a good laugh at silly people we watch Doomsday Preppers. If you watch one you will see that the disclaimer at the end gives the probabilities of the 'crisis' the Prepper is in fear of.

Most are silly fat men who wouldn't last a New York minute in a real doomsday scenario. Some of THE MOST whiny guys I have ever seen- the best was one whiner crying because a rifle HE SAW being set up by him rung his bell.... as if there will be no loud noises in defense of the homestead.

Next best was a guy who shot his fingertip off while 'training' his son on firearm use. :doh

There maybe a riot if power was lost for a few days but there will be no war.

My advice to you is if you believe 'reality' TV you should start listening to the radio. :2wave:

No, the political process still works. For example, we pro-2nd Amendment types flooded the inbox's of our leaders after the last push for gun control and won.

Despite Obama's imperialistic unilateral "I've got a pen and a phone" wannabe-tyranny, I do not believe him despotic. He's not even on the "I'm the Decider" scale.

I do not believe a civil war is imminent, it is possible, I believe our country hasn't been this divided since the last civil war... however the people have far too much to lose. Things are too nice, we are too fat and lazy and I just don't see my countrymen taking up arms. IMO, most people wouldn't pluck a hair for liberty and there isn't any serious talk of secession; Except from Texas, but... well they're Texas.

Who is going to start this civil war and who are they going to fight it with?

We need some details here.

There a million reasons to start a civil war - taking away guns, blackout, dollar collapse, mass extinction event, etc. Remember what happened in New Orleans when Katrina hit?

You confuse riot with civil war. You can think of millions of reasons why a Civil War would start but the probability will squash each one in turn. There are, and this forum has a few, who shriek on and on about secession but they are thankfully few and far between and in no way gonna lead the rebellion.

Ummm mass extinction event.... weeeellll if it is mass extinction who is fighting whom????

The leftovers from people will fight the leftovers from the table (food). How does that sound?

Before you say anything, may be you can explain why Homeland Security bought tons of hollow point ammo?

Unlikely given most of America are apathetic. There also doesn't need to be a war. It could be a peaceful seperation.

The Homeland ammo buy has been debunked many times in here, you missed it. The 'massive' buy is really just a futures contract for UP TO a certain number of rounds per year at a set price. Many businesses forward contract like this. My local COOP, where I buy my cattle feed, does an annual contract for UP TO a certain tonnage at a set price.

Homeland Security is an umbrella for dozens of other agencies as well as training facilities. It is quite the stretch to try and make the contracting for ammo into Civil War is close at hand.

Again in a mass extinction event the residue survivors fighting for food is not a civil war.

Have you watched any of the Doomsday Prepper silliness???

I do remember what happened after Katrina.

One of the things that did not happen was another civil war.

Usually people give examples that support their own argument, not refute it. :)

Another conservative tantrum thread about civil war. Next up : Republicans win an election, and liberals threaten to move to Canada.

Utter nonsense. I'll tell you one outcome, though : if you guys start blowing each other up over a lost election, I will leave. Scotland rather than Canada, though. Back to my roots, and you guys can throw all the tantrums that you want over the other Fisher Price My First Political Party's victory without me having to dodge bullets because of hyperbolic idiocy.

Nope, that's ridiculous. Americans, in general, are far too lazy to get off their butts and go to war, especially against their own country.

Elections have consequences, and the rightists will never come to grips with BHO.
Progress--ives, Liberals/DEMs, Blue Dogs better figure out a way to deal with this House, for the Nation's good.
The GOPees in the House need help to coalesce around "something", then we can negotiate with them .
