A follow up to the WaPo poll. I'm just interested in how the split is here at DP.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

He and I have different world views. He believes in trickle up. I think money doesn't flow from where it's not to where it is. He thinks you can build someone up by tearing others down. I think that's crazy.

I think you're oversimplifying economics a bit there. Besides, trickle down economics haven't really shown any success in the past.

The oversimplification is not intentional but it is illustrative of Obamanomics. Trickle down is what we've always had and will always have because that's the way a capitalist society functions. Everything else is just market manipulation and attempts at social engineering that always fail at some level.

Is the Washington Post biased or fair ?
I do have confidence in our President, but then I ignore the conservatives - seems as if there are a lot of them.....or....they are a very loud minority.

An important qualifier ...trickle down ..or..up only works for the wealthy...the people matter not, never have.....and when conditions really become worse, the people will revolt..I do not think we are even close to this...

they have for true working class Americans just not the lazy ****s with their hands out

Cautiously optimistic on the quality of the man our all futures depend on? That must be a real feel good experience.

Calm down with the ellipses bro. :)

All of our futures depend on Obama? News to me.

Can you show me any statistics for this claim?

My own, but you would just write them off for some liberal programming that is based on lazy ****s that never did anything to better themselves

Can you show me any statistics for this claim?

In the 1920s, the top tax rate dropped from 73 percent to 25 percent, and the economy expanded by 59 percent from 1921 to 1929, with annual growth rates of 6 percent. Similarly, in the six quarters following the 2003 tax cuts, GDP growth shot up to 4.1 percent, from 1.7 percent before. From 2003 to 2007, the economy added more than 8 million jobs.

...Are these published, peer-reviewed statistics or just anecdotal evidence?

published = programming, see what I mean. You are one of these people:

How many French Models do you know?:lamo

I expected something less biased and more trustworthy than a "Conservative Policy News" website by a conservative think tank :/ Not saying liberal policy news by a liberal think tank is any better.

I don't have much confidence in Obama BUT I do have something to say about "trickle economics".

I moved to South Korea in 1963 and it was one of the poorest countries on earth. There were no paved roads, delivery was by oxcart and cars were ancient jeeps with wire used to close the door handles. People lived in cardboard boxes.

Then came the Vietnam war and the children of the poorest Koreans were drafted and sent to the war. They were paid $300 a month and they had PX access so the back-marketed anything they could get their hands on. They sent this money home to their impoverished families who were able to buy things for the first time in their miserable poor lives.

Samsung was a small textile company in Korea and Lucky Chemical made vinyl material. I'm sure you know who Samsung is now and Lucky Chemical is now LG. South Korea is the most wired and best educated country in the world.

Why? Because of trickle-up. I'm sure someone will argue about this but sorry - I was there and I saw it.

America OTOH has been headed downhill ever since. Not just because of trickle down but a lot of other poor decisions as well (world police comes to mind).

Even under Obama, for all his lip flapping, we are still a trickle down nation with rich getting richer and poor getting poorer while Korea is the opposite. Obamanomics is still all about printing up money for bankers and kicking down food stamps to the "little people".

"the country" is kind of vague. Which country is being referenced?

I think you're oversimplifying economics a bit there. Besides, trickle down economics haven't really shown any success in the past.

Yes, it has. You must be very young not to realize this. Where it's started to fail is because of the liberalization that's gone on in this country. Any economic system only works when people are active participants. We've lost that in this country. Young liberals now think that they're owed a living without any effort at all. They don't get an education. They make really stupid personal decisions that harm or even destroy their future. Then they have their hand out and expect someone to put a free check in it. No economic system works like that. People can work their way up the ladder and it does demonstrably happen, but far too many people don't want to even try to climb, they just want a trophy for bothering to show up.

Trickle down works fine, it's the lazy liberals that don't.

You're wrong, people work their way out of the ghetto all the time. It works for anyone who is willing to apply themselves and live intelligently.

To say that people who are not successful are lazy ***es is probably one of the most ignorant statements I've heard from the right. I had co_workers on anxiety medications because they are overwhelmed with stress working 80 hours a week.

Then maybe they should have gotten an education when they had a chance or made better decisions in their lives, such that they didn't have to work 80 hours a week to get by?
