Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Being serious, I don't really understand the appeal of this speech.

Tradition mostly

Exactly where does one find those "non biased" sources? My search for these elusive sources has gone galactic. I'll satisfy myself by making comments on the comments here in this instance. Truth and politics don't occupy the same territory.

I think that was sarcasm. :)

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

That a significant majority(73.7%) of honest members? .. ..or scammers? ... declare this "non-watch of Our Presidents address" , I find to be disturbing.
Are so many of us full of hatred and fear ?
I think not.
I prefer to think is a problem of "run-away dishonesty " .
But how to deter the scammers ?

Do you really theres anything worthy in the SOTU? Its absolutely pointless. Very little to do with hatred or fear. No different than Dems saying they same thing of a Republican president. You don't like him, why would you want to listen to him? That is the state of the Presidency today. It is a political position, whose purpose is to do and say things which support a single parties ideology and electability. Again, that goes for BOTH parties. Obama just happens to be President during todays worthless speech.

And beyond that you can read the frickin transcript and not waste time watching people stand up and cheer every 20 seconds.

Just a bunch of pomp and circumstance really, especially at this point in his presidency, it's practically a lame duck presidency. Maybe he'll address those pressing and urgent problems of obesity and racism.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Tradition mostly

Tradition is fine, but the President is going to say that all the accomplishments are his and that the problems of the country are the fault of the Republicans. The Republicans will, in turn, respond that, no, anything good that's happened has been because of them, and that the President is at fault for everything bad.

Maybe I'm just jaded.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

I would rather watch Gigli

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Drink every time he says fair, equal, or any derivation. Instantly hammered.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Reading after the fact takes less time than listening to oratory.

You could watch it rather than rely on sources.

Really? Damn, I could be missing it now. I'm not sure. I just took a break from taking care of my dogs. It's cold. What the president has to say is the last thing on my mind.

No, I think you are spot on and that is exactly how it's going to go.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

The clapping never ends.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Had to watch, my wife watched. Empty jacket. Empty head. Empty speech. Lots of arrogance and lies.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Went ahead and watched it afterall. A decent speech, and the standing O for the Ranger was worth it...

And that is not surprising. I'm glad I didn't watch.

You should have watched. He actually told a few good jokes.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

watched about 1/2.
Same old stuff.
Lots of ideas, little on how to pay for it.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

I swear Obama slipped an "errbody" in for an "everybody". Until i fell asleep, i had a song replaying in my head about people in a club getting tipsy.

Obama does that often.

I could NOT watch it, and NOT rely on other sources, and still talk about it. Because its the same speech hes been giving for 5 years.

And aren't they just variations of the speeches he gives the other 364 days a year?

From "savings", accomplished by tax reform, of course - it was buried in his SOTU speech. Obama, like many liberals, view tax "loopholes" as gov't spending (corporate welfare?) so eliminating those tax deductions and credits is said to yield "savings".

- Seems we still have a debt.
- Seems we still don't have a balanced budget, (the deficit is heading in the right direction - smaller).
- We could use tax reform.

I love it when someone (dems) suggest we could take the "money spent on wars" and spend them in the US. What part of a non balanced budget don't they understand.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

I watched the speech as I said I would.

And yes, it was just the same speech he has delivered for the last three years, dusted off, reworded a bit here and there, but the same speech. Unfortunately his groomers didn't properly brief him on the flubbed acronym for a personal retirement savings program. I guess the current IRAs and 401-Ks and savings bonds just weren't sufficient for that. But I did feel a little sorry for him that he didn't have a clue what he was talking about and it made him look foolish. I have to give his joke writers props for a couple or three good lines, and I will give him props for being able to use a teleprompter effectively.

But if anybody was looking for anything at all ground breaking or that was mostly honest re the state of the union in that speech, it just wasn't there.

Judging from the body language that I saw from the people assembled, no one was overly impressed with his speech, including the Dems who were apparently hoping for something more. There was polite clapping, and some stood up when they agreed, but no exuberance displayed as in previous speeches.

Greetings, AlbqOwl. :2wave:
