Cigarette adverting has been banned from radio and TV since 1971. According to the following WSJ article, the e-cigarette industry has big plans for 2014. Should they be stopped?

They are salvation for addicted smokers. They must be regulated and sold to those of age but advertising them as alternatives to nicotine addiction - yes.

Yes they should be allowed to advertise on radio and tv.I also feel that regular tobacco products should be allowed to advertise on TV and radio. It should be up the stations if they want to accept tobacco and e-cig advertising dollars, not the government. Those are legal products and as such the government shouldn't be telling people that they can not advertise their legal products. But I think the anti-E-cig people need to shut the **** up so that regular cigarette smokers can be encouraged to transition to e-cigs.

You do know you're smoking liquid nicotine, right?

Yes. I can choose anywhere between 0% and 2.2%. Nicotine is not necessarily good for you but real cigarettes contain hundreds of other chemicals, plus the tar, plus the smoke.

Without E-Cigs, I could not have quit and been the happy little cat-nut that I am. On the health aspect, I figure I'm 99% better off. I already went from 2.2% to 1.8% and soon I'll go to 1.2%. No more coughing.

Leave the e-cigs alone. This may be one of the few things that can help me finally quit.

I don't care if I quit. I'm happy with the much reduced coughing in the morning.

Goshin...

As the old saying goes. It doesn't matter if you tie one leg behind your back while scratching your ass, winding your watch, and jump up and down singing Dixie...

...keepin on keepin on until you find whatever works for you.

I've been there. I quit after 25 years. It's tough, painful, emotionally kicks your ass...however...not for near as long as your body and mind wants you to believe. But when the smoke clears...you won't regret it.

I clean the glass on a place called Vapors that sells e-cigs. There is a large amount of particulate matter that sticks to the windows.
Apparently most people are not aware of this.

Hopefully you will quit completely before there are any bad side effects from this product.

Good luck with your endeavour.

Can't comment on e-cigarettes, but this stuff helped me quit.

Thank you for that information. This is a real concern. I never smoked real cigs in my house because of the cats but I do "smoke" E-cigs in the house and now I might have to investigate further and keep a safe space between me and the cats. I have been blowing smoke rings to amuse them and now I feel terrible because their health is more important to me than my own. They must not suffer from my behavior, I promised to take good care of them for their entire life and I am obligated (not to mention how passionately I love them). I just assumed it was water vapor.

What color is the particulate? Gray, brown or ?

Thank you!

Sorry for the tangent, but I'd really love to see them ban advertising those ubiquitous and annoying pharmaceutical commercials too. The detailed descriptions of the disgusting side-effect disclaimers while I'm eating are a lovely bonus though. :2sick1:

I had good luck with the Laser therapy treatment. It helped me quit for 3 days - and then the E-cigs tasted great and I never smoked another real one. Without that 3 day quit - they would not have satified me, I know, I tried.

I've smoked since age 12 - I'm such a nicotine junkie. Please consider my strategy of the 3 day quit - with or without therapy. But if you can afford therapy (I think it was almost $300), just paying the money will reinforce your quit.

My best wishes to you.

If you wanted to ban e-cigarettes from television, you would have to demonstrate that they are worse than alcohol, a standard I don't think can be met. Considering they are vastly safer that regular cigs and can help people quit, I don't see a justification for an advertising ban.

E-cigs are a superior delivery system for the tobacco smoker's drug of choice. I think disposable e-cigs should be banned though because we don't need even more electronic waste piling up in our landfills.

If you had seen the build-up of stuff on those windows, you would be wondering. I've been cleaning glass for over 30 years and this was a serious amount for only 28 days.

It's grayish. Given that the shop sells 100s of different flavors, not sure if one is worse than others.

The shop owner said he was getting dehumidifiers and smoke filters installed soon.

FWIW, I smoked for over 30 years and quit cold turkey. I know everyone can't do that but, it can be done.

EVERYTHING that is legal should be legal to advertise.

Booze, cigarettes, guns, prostitution (in places where it's legal like Canada and parts of Nevada), pot (in Colorado, Washington)...ANYTHING that is legal.

This nonsense about advertising getting people to do bad things is ridiculous.

Anyone pathetic enough to be convinced strictly by a commercial to do something 'bad' that they would otherwise not do, deserves everything they get.

'Gee. Susan was a model citizen until she saw those cigarette, gun, drug and hooker commercials...then she instantly changed. Now she is a chain smoking, gun obsessed, crack whore'.

It can turn my lungs to plastic, I don't give a ****. As long as I no longer wake for half an hour each night to cough.

Ironically I bought an "e-pipe" today. A 618. Skipped all the flavored stuff. Just tobacco flavoring and 1.8.

The units (e-cigarettes) that you FILL yourself are more substantial, last much longer and most seem to prefer them, though the small cigarette sizes like in stores now are convenience. There also are e-cigars, but they costly and gimmicky.

IF you go to "fill your" own e-cigarettes, buy your nicotine liquid from a e-shop, not a C-store. They tend to dilute the nicotine liquid - or so word is out to that effect.

The refillables (good ones) are larger and cost more, but cost far less in the long run. The batteries (rechargeable) last longer and the only cost is replacing the "wick" every month or 2 for about $3. Much less expensive than cigarettes - and less expensive in the long run than buying disposables.

I bought it at a mall e-store for $110 - but this is the pipe for half price. If you think that's high, think of the price of a cartoon of cigarettes.

It has a very nice, substantial feel to it. Fits nicely in your hand. And not so easy to lose. The batteries are rechargeable AND a standard size - unlike e-cigarette batteries - and should last many times longer than a e-cigarette battery, plus a larger liquid holder - and it comes with an extra liquid holder you can just swap in - plus an extra rechargeable battery so you always have a charged one. It best let rechargeables totally drain before recharging them.

Since it comes with 2 batteries - both also a standard size, two "bowls" for the liquid - which means 2 wicks - plus the extra mouth tip it's a good deal. The only thing you'll need in the future is more screw in wicks (very small), but they last about 2-3 months on these and cost less than $5 each.

Hot 618 Pipe Electronic Vaporizer Set Series Old Fashioned Style E Pipe in Box | eBay

$55 dollars for the set, free shipping, from China. Half what the identical set sells for in malls.

I have bought e-cigarettes such as the disposables you see in stores, the kind that you screw on replacement ends, and even the original small e-cigarettes you can refill, tried e-cigars, and now the newer larger refillables that don't look like an e-cigarette. I like this e-pipe MUCH more. Really feels good in my hand and hopefully won't be so easy to lose.

Basically all malls have an e-cigarette booth or smoke shop to buy the liquid nicotine. Guys tend to just want "tobacco" or "pipe" flavor. Women tend to go for the flavored stuff. There are 3 concentrations. If you smoke "reds" - go full strength. If you smoke lights, go medium. The weakest concentration is like nothing.

Give it a try. Buy a cheapie disposable e-cigarette at a store and I think you'd like the e-pipe more.

To get started, "smoke the e-cigarette" when you are a location where you can't smoke - like in a mall, at a movie, in a restaurant - and load yourself pretty good on the nicotine of it - as you'll more want a cigarette. BUT then you are so loaded up nicotine-wise you will want to light a cigarette, but you won't drag on it much and it longer before you want another.

The danger is if you are still doing the same level of smoking and adding the e-cigarette. They you are going to become a real nicotine junkie. While eliminating smokes saves your lungs from more damage, nicotine still will contract your blood vessels and other negative health effects of nicotine - but they do spare your lungs more abuse.

The tobacco industry has A LOT of clout. A company developed a cigarette that was a regular cigarette and burned like one - but the filter removed about 95% of the tar, while allowing the nicotine thru. They had a patent on it. The tobacco industry got the FDA to ban it claiming it fraudulently would convince people that smoking a cigarette is safe.

If e-cigarette ads are banned, it will on tobacco lobbying.

ALSO, you may want to stock up on the liquid nicotine. The tobacco industry is pushing the FDA to declare that in liquid form it is a "drug" that you must have a prescription for to kill e-cigarettes, which such a FDA regulation would do.

Good choice.

And Thank you!

I just went to your link and bought 1 liter (tad over a quart) of the e-liquid (1.8, strong flavor Malboro). Better than $10+ at a mall for 10ml! I quart will last what? 5 years? More? Probably should have bought a gallon, but I don't know if there is a shelf life.

I do think there is a possibility that out of the blue the FDA or USDA will ban liquid nicotine. It looks like no one is willing to ship it into the USA anymore - which I know they used to do.

I really like this e-pipe personally. I bought a backup off the ebay link, then looked around and found if I can wait a month I can get them for $45 including shipping if I order from China, so bought a 3rd. So rather than carry it everywhere I can just leave one here and one there so-to-speak.

It's funny they have a marijuana flavored e-liquid (no THC in it). They also sell the liquid base, which is propylene glycol - which is a super cheap substance anyway - and "pure nicotine" - which is probably the best deal to make your own - but then again you could kill yourself with it. I wonder if anyone has used refillable e-cigarettes and somehow concentrated THC so they could have e-THC rather than e-nicotine? No pot smell, probably wouldn't trigger a drug-dog, and police would just figure it's an e-cigarette. Plus the person could claim "I didn't know, that's just what they sent me online so I was tricked!" I guess there could be no end to that - e-crack, e-meth... LOL

Again, thanks for the link.
