What do you think Phil Robertson should have done different, if anything?
 
Nothing. He spoke God's word. [in his own special way]
 
He should have had the reporter kill, dress and skin a nutria so he'd have something else to talk about.

nothing, he stated what was on his mind which is protected speech. It is funny how the left wing moonbats get their panties in a wad over someone exercising their rights.
 
The man has every right to say what he wants. And A&E has every right to take any action that is in accordance with their contract with him.
Though they really can't be so stupid as to hire a redneck and not expect him to act like one.........
 
Absolutely nothing. He gave his honest answer to the question asked. Those that "preach" diversity, seem to draw the line at having different moral/religious views. I really doubt that the rest of the Duck Dynasty cast will not show A&E the same respect that A&E showed to Phil. Do the Robertsons need A&E more than A&E needs the Robertsons?

I'm not sure he'd say it quite the same way. The Robertson's don't appear unintelligent and there may have been a more diplomatic way to get an opinion across.

If he weren't a famous personality representing a particular demographic, nobody would care. Part of the reason he's getting so much backing is the overreaction to politically unpopular views, especially in the Media.

I disagree. Any objection to the full support of GLBT lifestyle choices would meet the same wrath of GLADD and receive negative press from the MSM. Trying to pretend that the GLBT lifestyle is compliant with all biblical teachings is dishonest at best. One may not agree with all biblical morality definitions, but to deny their existence or to assert that they may be overlooked/amended while remaining true to that faith is incorrect.

I have one question for you. If A&E can take action for Phil's explicitly stated opposition to homosexuality then are employers allowed to take action for one of their own speaking out in favor of it?

You can say I don't personally like homosexuality or believe it's inline with the bible without getting such a reaction. It's when you make comparisons with animals, reference to body parts and accusatory opinions that it opens up.

Your first sentence explained it better than your second.

He is getting so much support because those in his white trash demographic take the reaction to his ignorant comments as an assault on one of their own.
 
I agree with what he said, he was speaking Biblical truth about homosexuality and sin, what he said was correct although shared a little crass with speaking of vaginas and anuses.

I also support A&E's right to suspend him, they are a company that can choose who to associate with. However, their actions were bigoted, intolerant and wrong and do not cast them in a favorable light in my eyes. It sets a double standard that it's only ok to uphold homosexuality and agree with an LGBT agenda but those with a contrary opinion should be shut up and punished. That's not "tolerance."

That's funny but I believe in the freedom of speech pretty firmly, regardless of how unappealing someones views are. We used to either just ignore ignorant rants or laugh at them, which is far more effective than throwing a fit or taking action. A&E has the right to handle their business this way but people can also boycott their Network. The whole thing is overblown IMO.

Do you feel that as long as one ignores (does not speak of) the sexual acts associated with homosexuality and addresses only the general "sterilized" notion of it being a private lifestyle choice it is then OK to disapprove of it as with all other sin? That is much like saying that having feelings of sexual attraction to children is OK so long as no action is taken to satisfy them.
 
People should stop watching A&E, but not because they've SUSPENDED the duck dynasty dude, people should stop watching A&E because they hired those idiots in the first place.

As for the question really at hand -

You have the right to say what you want.
People then have the right to react to it.
The consequences for the things you have the right to say truly do exist.

Do the capitalist freedom lovers here believe people that own and operate businesses shouldn't be able to hire and fire people in a manner that's thought best for their particular business?

Should a business owner not be able to fire somebody who negatively effects their business?
