I don't disagree with your assessment of Phil, but I do disagree that the show will go on without him. Beyond any current contractual obligations, I mean. I believe the entire family would stand behind Phil and refuse to renew. Only possible exception might be Willie, as he's more money/publicity-oriented than the rest of them.

If they do leave A&E, expect it to be picked up by another network... with Phil. Bottom line: There's money to be made in them there swamps!

.
Willie seemed to be in charge to me. I think they said he was the CEO of the company and I believe that if he goes another season of shows without Phil the others will follow.
As I have said before, they may be wealthy but they are not stupid.

Phil founded the company and was successful with it. "Very" successful might be a relative term, but he was more successful than most people when most people form their own companies. Willie came along and turned the company into the multi-million dollar corporation this it had become prior to the show. Willie has a knack for business and promotion, to be sure... and attention.

Why isn't there a "who gives a ****, NDAA just passed again and nobody mentioned it" option?

Interesting question.
I watched the show for the first and only time just last week. I'm pretty sure it was a re-run. I got a few chuckles from watching uncle Si and the brothers were at times mildly amusing, but nothing there that I would go out of my way to watch.
Perhaps if they got into the mechanics of what makes their duck calls better than anyone else's or the psychology of the ducks they hunt the show may have something that could pass as content. As it is though, what I saw was a family joking around without cause or purpose with a very low entertainment value. The goal of the episode I saw seemed to be to get out of cleaning up the warehouse, playing ping pong, taking the reluctant wives deer hunting and getting uncle Si new glasses. The rest of the show was Phil berating and belittling everyone he had contact with.
To answer your question ...No... I'm sure I could do better than that.
The Kardashians are about on the same entertainment par and I have only watched one full episode of that as well.
Duck Dynasty seems to be just another, let's laugh at the stupid hillbillys, kind of a show, of which there are many these days, with the twist that these guys run a successful business and are wealthy... It's kind of like a modern version of the Beverly Hillbillys without the benefit of a decent screenplay, script or professionally trained actors.
Right. I get it. So its not your cup of tea. And you watched it for the first time last week after the bruhaha started. And you dont like what Phil said, so, really...you just want HIM gone.

I can see why they should be concerned about your opinion.

It is noted that the vast majority of people with the worst things to say about Phil and/or the show have also never watched it. Makes one wonder on what they base their opinion.

I watched an episode just so I would have an informed opinion... I formed one, and I gave it.
As I have said before, I believe that A&E were planning on getting rid of Phil a long time ago for the reasons I noted and that they used the GQ interview as an excuse ... it was not the reason for canning him.
Even people who seem to like the show tend to agree with me that Phil is an asshole.

Well...to start with he said homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible...you just cant say such things. I mean...unless you are a democrat sitting in the White House. Or a liberal democrat minister that happens to be black.

The buybull means absolutely nothing to me as I am an atheist.
So what Phil said in that interview referencing the buybull means nothing at all to me except that it was somewhat uncouth.
As I have said before ... I think he is an asshole for many reasons.

What do you think Phil Robertson should have done different, if anything?

I largely don't care, but it's everywhere, so I haven't been able to avoid seeing it.

He has a right to say it. A&E has a right to do whatever they want as a result. I don't agree or disagree with how A&E handled it. It's their company and their image. I don't care how they handle it.

One episode merely gives a taste. One episode does not impart comprehensive knowledge.

Yes, Phil can be a jerk, but a cast of nothing but agreeable nice people sitting around and sing campfire songs doesn't make for entertaining tv.

Why do you believe they were planning on getting rid of Phil?

But mostly because he hurt your feelings openly stating that homosexuality is a sin.

Because he is a religious nutjob , a dry drunk with an agenda and a mean spirited asshole who likes controversy. He doesn't fit in with the light hearted nature of the rest of the show.
The shows appeal will greatly broaden without him.
The brothers and uncle Si are anything but overly-agreeable ... they just don't take the kidding of each other as seriously.
I think I got a pretty accurate taste of what the show is about.

I am not gay and nothing that asshole could say could possibly hurt my "feelings".

Well then, you probably wouldn't want to watch a show featuring such a fellow. Leaving it to a whole lot of people that do want to watch the show.

Interesting, I think there is hidden meaning here.

I always have... and no doubt I will continue to do so.
The controversy and debate got me curious so I checked it out and I then added my two cents.
This isn't about free speech or religious freedom. It's about a network wanting to improve one of their popular shows by broadening it's appeal even more.

I think we could say the same about both analogies. The Dixie Chicks AND Phil Robertson. Both spoke their mind unprovoked. Both are filthy rich. And as far as the Dixie Chicks go, their sales went off the charts despite the so called 'boycott."
Actually, no. GQ specifically asked what Phil thought about the homosexual marriage issue, never ask a southern man his opinion if you can't handle the truth, we don't hold back. The Dixie Chicks did in fact lose sales, that's why they started doing the "woah is me" stuff, they knew they ruined their ride.

At the end of the day, people who dislike the Dixie Chicks for utilizing their freedom of speech quit supporting them. People who dislike Phil Robertson for utilizing his freedom of speech will stop supporting him.
Actually, most people who watch the show have shown support for the Robertson family, here is the thing, people who watch those folks share their values and Robertson didn't really say anything that they won't tolerate. The Dixie Chicks had a country demographic, saying something against a conservative president on British soil during a war was the exact opposite of their demographic reach, people are shallow and sometimes it's just not a good idea to piss off your customers.

The problem with the Dixie Chick example is that a LOT of their base audience, are the same type of hicktards that would LOVE Duck Dynasty. But, fortunately for the Dixie Chicks, their international market happen to agree with them and their sales went through the roof. Now, the hicktards may WANT to support Phil Robertson but if A&E takes them off the air, they have no international market to fall back on. All that's left is to keep making duck calls.
Their international sales didn't come close to what they lost in the states, they lost arena tours, airplay, album and merchandise sales. You lose the U.S. you lose the ability to tour big internationally. I thought they sucked to begin with though so I wasn't exactly crying over what happened to them.

Bottom line is, they are all so filthy rich, none of this will keep them from missing any meals.
Truth.

Here's a question for ya: He has been reinstated as of today. All this took place over the Christmas holiday time. Was he really suspended (read: punished)? Or, was filming shut down for the holiday time anyway, and nothing of substance happened other than showboating on A&E's part?

As I said what he said means nothing to me.

And yet...

On the plus side...the 'suspension' has been lifted. A&E came out with a statement yesterday that said "we thought we were on the right track until Jessie Jackson spoke out. Then we realized our position was the same as that assholes position, so....never mind..."

In truth, the network has actually announced that they will be playing Public Service Announcements about "promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people..." throughout their broadcast day including Duck Dynasty. There has even been talk about the Robertson family appearing in these PSAs.
Expect to see the asshole Phil dialing it back quite a bit.

Look how cute you are with your sad impotent rage towards someone you know nothing about and 'care' nothing about.
