Did Al Sharpton Try To Slander Bill O'Reilly?

Did Al Sharpton Try To Slander Bill O'Reilly?

Pretty clear Al used the power of "edit" to eliminate O'Rielies comments about Mandella being a great man.

Al is a huckster. Nothing new there.
He didn't do that in his response, he showed the whole thing.

Yes, it would appear after O'Riely called him out, showing how Al had manipulated the story in his usual fashion, Al was forced to try and save face, which as usual, he failed at miserably.

Mandela wasn't a communist. That's basically just a right-wing buzzword/insult from those who reveled back in the days of McCarthyism.

Having said that, as suggested above, Sharpton plays the typical MSNBC card and showed you only the parts they wanted to show you. Sharpton's a stupid, giant race-baiting asshole, even on the rare occasion that he's correct.

Wrong, he could have just ignored O'Reilly. Nobody would have been the wiser.

Well, that's assuming Al could do that. Clearly his ego would not let that happen. It seems that's what hucksters do.

I don't care what either of those entertainers think or say.

It is entirely appropriate for liberals to have great appreciation for Mandela's post-imprisonment legacy because he epitomized the core liberal values of using peaceful and democratic means to strive for equality for all, tolerance, appreciation of diversity and inclusiveness, forgiveness and compassion.

Conservatives should especially appreciate his forgiveness and compassion since he saved the conservative whites that had previously ruled South Africa with oppression and brutality from the punishment and exclusion that they arguably deserved.

Then why did you post on a thread that specifically asked you about your opinion of these two entertainers?

How can you possibly slander either one of these dunces?

Is Mandela on record as being a member of the Communist party or endorsed communistic politics? Or, is it just another FOXNews "slander," attempt?

If Mandela is not a communist, Sharpton does have a point.

Sharpton/MSNBC clearly sliced and diced O'Reilly's statements. But, on the other hand, FOXNews is known for doing the same.

The definition of slander:
Definition of slander (n)

slan·der[ slándər ]
saying of something false and damaging: the act or offense of saying something false or malicious that damages somebody's reputation
false and damaging statement: a false and malicious statement that damages somebody's reputation
utter slander against somebody: to make a false and malicious oral statement about somebody

If Mandela was an undisputed communist, Bill O'Reilly has every right to say he was. If not, O'Reilly slandered Mandela. (At least to the people who consider communism to be an evil bad thing.)

Did Sharpton slander O'Reilly? Just watching the two videos, by definition, I can't locate where he did. He mostly just voiced his usual muckraking ignorant opinion.

They both get whatever they deserve in my opinion. They both are spinmeisters of the Nth degree.

I wouldn't put an ounce of belief on anything that comes out of either of their mouths.

I think it was the other way around.

Nelson Mandela saw if the ANC would have followed through with their agenda after gaining political power, there would have been a civil war, a blood bath. And Mandela knew who had the guns and knew how to use them. Who controlled the police and who controlled the largest and most powerful military on the continent of Africa, both in complete control of the Afrikaans. Not to leave out the "Wild Geese" (mercenaries) out of the equation.

Nelson also knew that the Cold War was over, his side lost, and the Soviet Union was no more and the ANC would have no source for weapons, and training for resuming terrorism, etc.

The endgame would have been South Africa returning to the 1970's.

believe it or not o'reily and Sharpton are friends

In order to answer honestly you need to watch the following two videos?

First Bill O'Reilly:

O'Reilly: Liberals "Exploit" Nelson Mandela's Legacy | Video | RealClearPolitics

Now Al Sharpton's response:

Protecting Mandela’s legacy from the right

Al Sharpton was playing to his audience and giving them the red meat they want regardless of the truth that o'Reilly actually was praising Mandela. Sharpton was wrong in cutting every portion out of what O'Reilly said, but he is a talk show host and not a news reporter. All he did is give his viewers a small slice of film of what they believe and wanted to hear. Do I have a problem with it, not really. Our politicians do the same thing in using quotes out of context and spouting half-truths. So why not a talk show host?

If Mandela is not a communist, Sharpton does have a point.

Mandela was a communist. But he was also a pragmatist. When he was released from prison he was far more pragmatic then communist. Regardless of if he was once a communist, it doesn't detract in the least from the man and his accomplishments, and his leading his nation down the path of healing rather than retribution.

Too bad. If find that O'Reilly does go a bit overboard, passionate if you will, but at least he presents things in such a way that it makes me think. Sharpton, what he says, and how he says it, just makes me want to throw up. He's a 2 bit race hustler / con man.

So I am supposed to spend almost 10 minutes of my life watching videos so I can answer the question; did one person I could care less about insult another person I could care less about?

Hmmm....pass.

My God, Al Sharpton is a fool. Bill O'Reilly (listen close, I'll never say this again) actually spoke with a bit of decency and reasonability -- he said that Mandela was a great man, though O'Reilly disagreed with his communist ideology.

Sharpton, somehow, thinks that O'Reilly is denigrating Mandela by calling him a communist. This flabbergasts me. It is Sharpton who is perceiving this as an insult, and as a result it is Sharpton who is insulting Mandela.

Of course Mandela was a communist -- and a pretty radical one at that. O'Reilly treats that like it's Mandela's political ideology which he doesn't agree with. Sharpton, on the other hand, treats that like it's akin to calling someone a baby-murderer.

Sharpton is an idiot.

Then why did you post on a thread that specifically asked you about your opinion of these two entertainers?

It was in response to the silly notion that liberals are exploiting Mandela's legacy.

If that scenario was accurate Mandela and the other apartheid opponents would have lost the struggle for freedom. The apartheid opponents won because the white controlled government finally realized that most of the world was against them thanks to the ongoing public information campaigns, protests and boycotts. The whites might have won a violent battle, but they would have been isolated and reviled internationally.

Mandela did nothing to implement communism or restrict private enterprise as president and he helped create that nations' first democratic government, one that was inclusive and treated everyone equally.

I feel like you might've been misled as to what communism is -- communism can be democratic, inclusive, and indeed some iterations allow private enterprise.

There's no debate: Nelson Mandela was a communist, his party, the ANC, are communists, and his legacy in South Africa is one partially of communism.

That doesn't make him a bad guy. He's still a great guy.

Were. Are no longer.
Really, says you? Jon Stewart has been going after O'Reilly for years and years, and they're still friends. So based on what do you suppose Al and Bill are no longer friends?

What Bill said on his program last night makes believe they are no longer friends. Seems like Sharpton has done this a number of times to Bill, who calls it sleazy, distorting, etc. etc.
