Single payer system funded by raising taxes on the richest 1%.

Would you support a single-payer system funded by raising taxes on the very wealthy.

Would you support a single-payer system funded by raising capital gains taxes, corporate taxes and taxes on incomes over 2 million dollars a year? This would essentially mean free basic healthcare for Americans but at the cost of tax hikes on corporations and very wealthy people.

HELL NO....

This has been very lopsided so far with no representation from progressives/liberals. That's very puzzling because I know many of them want single-payer systems AND think the rich and corporations need to pay more taxes. Maybe there would have been a better response from the left had I made it an anonymous poll.

I am all for a one payer system, but I do think we should all contribute to our own healthcare.

Absolutely not. I have morals, a conscience, and I know what theft is.

This would be nothing but legalized theft, a money-grab, and an act of jealousy from bottom-scraping have-nots.

Taxing corporations is the same as levying a new tax on the consumer. Take the direct route, and let everybody know what they are paying for rather then trying to hide it.

Just an idea.... an expanded Medicare/Medicaid program, for those who VOLUNTARILY want the government to handle their health care. Just for number's sake, they pay a 20% income tax for that privilege. Those who opt out of the government provided plan pay a 2% income tax to help support those who cannot afford their premiums.

Clear and to the point, rather than taxing someone just because they have the audacity to earn more then someone else.

That might explain why liberals seem to be pleading the 5th on this.

What are you talking about? You have convienced yourself anyone that does not agree with you is evil and just wants to take rich people's money. There are very few and if any were here I am sure they would be happy to tell you about it. I seriously doubt they are afraid to pipe up.

Oh, give it time. Soon you'll see some on here who will support distribution, say that it's the rich's "responsibility", and attempt to punish success to suit their own personal goals.

It boils down to envy. The "rich" do something that they can never do, it pisses them off, and "soaking" them is their version of payback.

I have no problem with a single payer system--just as long as everybody contributes to the funding of the system in some way, even if it is nominal on a sliding scale basis.

Right. The freestuffers are always open and honest about their desire to eat the rich. In some other universe, of course, because here in the United States of America, they will only beat around the bush about it, demonizing the wealthy, demonizing capitalism, demonizing corporations while demanding everything from single-payer systems to ridiculous minimum wages, all the while fighting to raise the taxes on the rich while NOT raising taxes on themselves. When the "Bush tax cuts" expired, all of a sudden, the lefties realized it wasn't just "Tax breaks for the wealthy" because they stomped their feet and demanded that they ONLY expire for the wealthy but make THEIR OWN tax breaks permanent.

What do you call a thief that's too lazy and cowardly to do their own stealing? You call them a liberal.

Do you think everyone that disagrees with you politically is a "freestuffer?"

No. But I can guarantee you that all freestuffers disagree with me politically.

Take it from someone who lives it. Single payer healthcare in Canada costs our government about 50% of every dollar in revenue the government at the federal and provincial levels takes in currently, and even with that services and programs are being delisted from the system on a yearly basis. In Ontario, not only does a large percentage of our income and consumption taxes go to fund healthcare, we also have people paying a health care "premium" of upwards of $1,000 to supplement the rising costs of healthcare.

And the above doesn't take into account the significant segment of the economy spent on the provision of employer funded supplemental insurance and individual payment of supplemental insurance plans.

I'd wager that if you confiscated all the incomes of the richest 1%, you wouldn't have enough to fund a single payer healthcare system worth crap in the US.

Besides, why do people think maintaining their own health shouldn't cost them personally?

Including the poor?

EVERYONE must contribute, but there must be skilled "overseeage" to prevent waste and fraud...and it must be a lot better than I have seen in the private sector..
The wealthy can afford it and I will not protect them as so many here have...
I'd say that we have no shortages of Scrooges...

I do think that it's your life and your health and your responsibility and that this goes for everyone. It was the opinions of others that I was seeking. And, of course, thank you for sharing yours.

While I think a single-payer system might not be such a bad thing if it was bare-bones very basic healthcare with no TORT issues and the low-cost a properly rationed system should have...... but that's not what it would end up being. My opinion is that it's our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness at stake and, therefore, we should decide how many hours of our life we should spend toiling for the sake of health care that might either extend our life or make it more comfortable. It's our work/life balance to manage and our work/life balance that should concern us and that means our work and our life, not our life and other peoples' work.

Raise the money ?
YES
Free health care ?
NO
Simply make it affordable for the working man !
So, I do not think the tax increase would be that much....they will cry anyway...as do little children...

If you are so worthy of judging who is 'capable' of funding this, then how about you sign over your paycheck every week? After all, you are capable of paying for the low income people too. They think YOU are rich, so they declare what you have as theirs.....

No one is 'protecting' them, they should be treated just the same as anyone else. Don't want to discriminate, now do you? ;)

So you would prefer opening up VA care for all?
