Does Your Place of Employment Enforce Grooming Standards?

I know this is going to sound stupid, but, hear me out. As a Marine of 15 years, I have had to shave almost every morning for those 15 years. The few times I haven't has been in Iraq for about a month when we couldn't get enough water and the occasional extended leave period (which is against the rules to do). One of the things I am most looking forward to when I retire is being able to grow a huge, Duck Dynasty beard. It means so much to me, in fact, that I think about it on a daily basis lol.
I'm trying to find out how many DP user's employers enforce grooming standards including men being required to shave. If so, please state the nature of your employment so I may avoid that type of job. In the Marine Corps, beard = freedom.
 
I do not have the ability to grow a duck dynasty beard it just doesn't get that long. Seeing as my beard never gets lengthy I have never been asked to clean up. With that said I have not seen any of my co-workers asked about it.
 
Although I wasn't in the Corps as long as you I feel your pain. Clean shaven every day since 1997. My last job didn't require it, but for some reason it was just habit. The job I have now requires a clean shave and wear a suit. Not sure how I would feel having facial hair?

Here's hope for a successful beard when your out!
 
They do enforce dress code and grooming to a certain degree, but not always strictly. Men can have beards and ponytails, but they need to be neat/ clean looking. Where I work, they mostly get uptight about facial piercings and long nails (infection control issues).

for what it's worth I don't mind having to be clean shaven every day - I don't have dense enough facial hair to grow anything substantial anyway. And beards just get gross we're you're eating and drinking.
 
Mine requires that people can wear as half or full face respirator. Provided a fit test can be obtained facial hair is allowed. In other words limited facial hair and a full beard is not allowed
 
I tried requiring beards at my office but my secretary complained that she couldn't grow one. She did suggest not shaving her armpits but I figured I'd just give her a pass.
 
I am self employed. I would not hire an individual that I would have to "enforce," good grooming habits upon, in the first place.

But I might show some leniency to someone who served my nation if they wanted to grow a Duck Dynasty beard. As long as there wasn't any squirrel meat or frog legs or snot in there.

In most cases it comes down to the job you have; whether you interact with the public or your a guy behind the scenes. Also, as Lord Tammerlain eluded to, it also can depend on safety as to whether you can have a beard or not. Even though you know this, many here that haven't been in the military don't understand the grooming standards; they are primarily for personal hygiene purposes, but also for a uniform look and discipline (you can't let let one guy have a beard if another cannot because it can impact morale).

My company (I own it) has a simple grooming standard. As long as you look and act professional, I don't care. In my line of work, it wouldn't make that much difference for most employees to have a Duck Dynasty beard, however, the senior managers and sales professionals would have a hard time looking professional in our industry to our clients if we did. The IT guys that work for me religiously observe "No Shave November." Most have a beard year round. I'm more concerned with combed hair and clean ironed cloths than what they have on their chin. The one female IT employee I have says she's also observing "No Shave November" but I have no way to verify that, nor do I wish to verify it. I just take her word for it, and try real hard not to think about it, since it gives me the shivers when I do.
 
Yes, but I don't honestly give too much of a rats ass as long as I'm not in the office. I've been in Mexico working my ass off for a year. I don't have to abide by ****.
 
A lot of it has to do with you work environment. I'm in Nevada, which is not part of the headquarters so we're more relaxed. My facial beard is a nasty rats nest but I just don't do anything about it. However I wear a buttoned up shirt and a tie to make up for it. We have employees who are able to work from home and they don't hesitate to tell us when they're working in their pajamas or naked.
 
Our employee manual states a dress code for clothing but makes no mention of hair or whiskers. I haven't had a hair cut for 2 years and 3 months and I'm currently growing back my Duck Dynasty beard that I trimmed short for my 40th class reunion.

I started here, 9 years ago, with short hair and and a clean shaved face. I could go back to that look in about 30 minutes. It's just hair. I like mine long.

I work for a small company that contracts for the DoD. Haliburton is just down the street. I see old Hippies like me pulling out of there at beer-thirty, on their Harleys.
 
Since it's the food industry I work with, hair longer then collar length must be pulled back in a pony tail (regardless of gender) hat or visor worn. Any beards or mustaches (also regardless of gender) must be less then 1/2 inch in length and neatly maintained.

This doesn't apply to admin, since we are not in contact with the food or customers.

I had a beard, when I was studying. Later I shaved and prefer it, but am not hung up, if I can't for a day or two. It depends a lot on whom you are hanging out with, though.
 
Yes.

I make sure my employees groom the plants to keep them in tip top shape.
 
I place stricter ones on myself over company policy, such as how I dress and no tattoos that can't be easily covered
 
i could grow my hair and beard out as much as i wanted and there wouldn't be a problem with my job. i might get some odd looks, though.
 
I have to laugh. I am a bedside nurse and rarely see male nurses with facial hair. They are allowed (sterile procedures would demand beard covers). But just the fact that you may get slimed and have the aforementioned slime festering (unknowingly) in your beard for the shift is probably a deal breaker.:lamo

Where I worked if they had grooming standards I did not know about them.....the youngest guy in our organization was bout 30 so no one had to tell us about self grooming...It just come naturally.
 
I had always worked for an acute care hospitals so grooming was in the P&P.

I am now consulting ... it is slightly more relaxed yet I prefer a professional and classy look of black pumps, black pencil skirt and minimal cosmetic and at most one piece of jewelry. I hate flashy style anyway.

I do understand men wanting a break from shaving daily ... yet I do not like facial hair on men.
 
I would never hire someone with a porn stache or a woman who didn't keep her legs shaved if they showed, but otherwise, I really don't care. Being the boss affords me the opportunity to be as bummy as I want though.
