Re: For Non Republicans Only: Who Would You Like To See Win The 2016 Democratic Prim

I like Warren, but I don't think she's do well in a national election. She doesn't have the chops.

Biden is a non-starter. Booker's strength so far is the kind of hands-on stuff that Presidents can't really do. Cuomo, maybe, let's see how NY shapes up in a few years.

Clinton is fairly popular, survived the primary loss with her reputation in decent shape, has a lot of appeal to the center. The far right will shriek endlessly about Benghazi and who knows what other old news; after the Foster nonsense, I suspect she can handle it -- probably better than the other candidates can handle a similar scandal.

Plus, I know it's a bit shallow, but we are well overdue for a woman president. Heck, even Pakistan had a woman president years before the US.

Chris Christie would be fine, with Susana Martinez as VP. His more authoritarian executive urges would be well taken care of if Rand Paul is the Senate Leader. To complete the balance of power, the House should be Democratic, by a thin margin, with Peter DeFazio, or some other honest socialist, as Speaker.

 Biden / Wasserman-Schultz, 2016

Re: For Non Republicans Only: Who Would You Like To See Win The 2016 Democratic Prim

She's not the Bachman of the left. The only reason he is making that comparison is because she is a woman that he disagrees with.

She is rather level headed, not beholden to corporate interest, has the ability to compromise, and wants to get stuff done.

Warren is a smug, self-righteous, arrogant, um, not-nice-word who has no appreciation for the limits of government.

But she is also an actual intellectual. She's not the Bachman of the left. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is the Bachman of the left.

True. People have to like you, nowadays.

Biden is a non-starter. Booker's strength so far is the kind of hands-on stuff that Presidents can't really do.

Booker apparently made up significant portions of his personal past in order to help run for office. He can get away with that if he's the D in New Jersey with no real competition; but he would be massacred for that in a national race.

Cuomo, maybe, let's see how NY shapes up in a few years.

I dunno - he just lost quite a bushelfull of money with his gun initiatives out west. He may have the tendency to overestimate his appeal outside of the City.

Any race with Clinton in it sucks the air out of the room and focuses it on Clinton and her time as the SoS, where she appears to have had no notable achievements and several small to medium-sized failures. I'll admit, I don't really know how that plays out - if she goes for the crying thing again and tries to pull the "Republicans are beating up on the girl" narrative, it might get her some good breathing room in her scandals, but you would have a problem jiving that with the angry "what differences does it make if an ambassador got killed and we were negligent!" outbursts.

The downside to that is, it lets' the Republican be the Fresh New Candidate, as opposed to the Same Old Politics, which Clinton is drenched in and won't be able to extricate herself from.

Plus, I know it's a bit shallow, but we are well overdue for a woman president. Heck, even Pakistan had a woman president years before the US.

Really couldn't care less. Though I know alot of Democrats will agree strongly with your position here. "it's hillary's turn", so to speak.

Why exactly? The woman is the Michelle Bachman of the left.

I appreciate the fact that you might not like her politics, but Elizabeth Warren is bright, well studied and coherent. None of those qualities have even paid a visit to the Bachman residence.

Out of those candidates, Hillary would get my support, so would Cuomo, Warren, and Patrick. Cory Booker would probably get me the most excited, I'd probably actively campaign for that guy.

Would be a very exciting candidate

on a side note just getting more familiar he would probably have to reign in any over the top gun opinions he has. ANd again like social issues for GOPers any strict negative view of guns rights hurts on a national stage and it could also lose my vote.

but again it has to be part of the running platform, not just feelings. If he actually wants to make legislation that i dont agree with that could be an issue.

still exciting though

I didn't vote in the poll since I vote Republican. But as a Republican who could conceivably vote for a Democrat if for example someone like Ted Cruz, Rick Perry, or perhaps even (haven't made up my mind) Rand Paul won the nomination. In that instance depending on the tenor of the campaign I could be persuaded to vote for Hillary Clinton, Booker, or even a sleazy guy like Cuomo. I know a lot of people who feel similarly. But if Warren was the nominee? If she was the nominee I'd probably put more effort into supporting the GOP nominee than I ever have before. She honestly frightens me. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not a big domestic politics guy, but I have to imagine that if it was something like Christie vs. Warren a lot of suburban voters like myself would fall heavily against her.

Re: For Non Republicans Only: Who Would You Like To See Win The 2016 Democratic Prim

I voted other. Because every election since Bush's second election, I have prayed for something different. Someone who would have the contry's best interest at heart and not just partisan politics. Right now I dont know of one.

Re: For Non Republicans Only: Who Would You Like To See Win The 2016 Democratic Prim

Alan Grayson would be a fine choice.
Yep, Alan Grayson! Although he's got a snowball's chance!
