Many Americans are finding out that their insurance rates are going up. Unlike government most of us live on a budget and things like insurance and Christmas are in that budget. Seems to me that when a family learns that they will have to come up with a couple thousand dollars more next year for insurance they may very well take that out of their discretionary spending fund and that would be Christmas. Most retailers depend on the Christmas shopping season to get them into the black and if sales this year reflect the cost of obamacare a lot of them will be hurt, some fatally. A local company where I live is a good example. They have been suffering all through this Obama economy and just laid off 500 people. Rumor has it if they have a bad Christmas they will close their doors.

What company was that and how much does their CEO make? Just wondering at what level are they suffering so badly.

As for Christmas shopping the retailers shouldn't depend so much on one holiday and if you have too buy JR a football instead of a new tablet, forgive me for not crying my heart out for you. Christmas should not be so much about gifts and shopping as it should be as for family and friends.

If it were only Xmas, it would hardly matter. But he has risked a depression.

Potential impact after individual mandate deadline.

I agree with you in theory but facts are facts and the fact is retailers depend on Christmas to put them in the black. If obamacare ruins Christmas sales it will ruin many retailers. The comp I am referring to in the OP is Coldwater Creek, they are a catalog company that sells women's clothes.

People unlike government plan ahead, they budget for the coming year.

Like they do for Christmas shopping? Come on. An incredible amount procrastinate. On top of that, enough Americans have little clue whether the new marketplace will be a benefit to them, or a potential harm.

A lot of businesses rely on Christmas sales. I know that Obamacare is an easy excuse, but this business was probably one bad Christmas away from closing anyway.

It has been in the news constantly and I think people that will pay more for obamacare see the writing on the wall. That will be reflected in Christmas sales.

So even without Obamacare, it wasn't doing so well anyway? It seems like a weak excuse to blame Obamacare for that.

All women's clothing retailers have had horrible sales through out the recent recession, Cold Water is one of many at deaths door and this obamacare Christmas may well be the last nail in the coffin.

 obama

It may be, but it takes more than one nail.

The economy has been softening all year. If sales are down, which I seriously doubt they will be from recent years, then it is more that than obamacare. I further doubt that the ACA will turn any successful business into a bankrupt business. Politics is a convenient excuse for failed business management. Americans are all about "It ain't my fault".

I think as a nation we should end "christmas shopping" for a year or two. Show that we can control the economy.

What the hell would that accomplish other than a bad note for the year.

It's been one thing after another since Obama took over and now this obamacare Christmas will be the death blow for many retailers.

Obamacare sank my battleship.

In case you haven't noticed the economy has sucked since Obama became pres and women's apparel has been one of the hardest hit.

Uh, no, the economy has sucked since 2007.

People will always find a way to blow a wad of money on christmas. ACA has absolutely no affect on it.
