I was going to give you **** if you were a dirty old man drooling over a 23 yr old.

Always glad to ruin a progressive's fun.

Um, hon... you are familiar with the male half of Homo Sapiens, right?

Regardless of our age, most of us will "drool" over any attractive female substantially beyond puberty.

yeah, I know. Weak moment. Reality sucks.

I wonder if the Ministry of Magic was either Pro-Wand or Pro-Wand Control.

Well obviously not since they let the "we are quite obviously wizards who follow Voldemort" have wands.

:D :D :D

Now, bear in mind, "drool over" is NOT necessarily the same as "would bang her given the chance". But we definitely like to look. I'm fairly sure it is instinctive, since it is darn near universal.

I have not right to judge. I like to look too, I'm pretty visual for a woman. Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth (good examples) What'ya gonna do.

I wondered if it was supposed to be a metaphor for the British government...

There may be something to this. If the ministry is a metaphor for the British government, then Voldermort and his crew could be a depiction of BNP right wing extremists seeking to "purify" the land.

Edit: Then again, this is all guesswork. I'm sure it was more likely a metaphor for the importance of community and friendships in the face of dangers that big government programs can't defend you from.

It sucks worse for the dirty old men who spend their lives drooling over something they can never have.

So I guess reality sucks equally for everyone.

But it's not all doom and gloom, because I think with age you begin to realize that the secret to happiness isn't in seeking more, it's figuring out how to enjoy what you've got.

A very un-american concept, I'm sure. :)

The Latin translation by Peter Needham (Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis, 1997) is actually great. I can't imagine any better way to hook someone young and impressionable on the classics.

Now, many years later, my (deeply Japanese, though New York-dwelling) nephew-by-marriage is perfectly capable of appreciating Ovid as much as Lady Murasaki.

"Cultural phenomena" should not be judged just by their own informational content - it is also very much about what we are making out of them.

In this regard at least, I agree. It just typically starts earlier for women. Not bitter (all evidence to the contrary) just bummed. It's more extreme in this country. You have to rise above it.

I completely agree on both counts.

a nearly complete absence of quality imagery

You find the imagery horrendous? I think JK Rowling has a fantastic imagination.

Actually, I remember now 1 of the movies I didn't like so much.

I like the movies, but before they came out I had already envisioned Harry and Hogwarts in my mind a certain way so when the first movie came out my own perception was dashed.

Ah. Yes, some of it I would've cut out of the books, but overall I still loved them. Btw this is coming from someone who hates Twilight and any book similar to it. I will say though she doesn't hold a candle to Tolkien even if I do like her work.

She didn't write it for children. She stated that in an interview she doesn't put an age limit on her books. The books are very complex and not just for children.

I would highly recommend for you to read The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince in the original) it's one of the most amazing books ever. It's written for children about a boy who crashes his plane on the moon. The author not too long after during WWII crashed his plane in North Africa and was never found. The book even though it's for children actually has a deeper impact on adults.

Ah, thank you for answering. What is your view on Tolkien? He was a genius in my view.

John Williams did the music? Ah. So that's why it was awesome. Now I want to go back and find all the individual themes.

I think with Tolkien, there really isn't a "in my view". The debate starts with him being a genius and just goes on to whether or not you happen to enjoy his work. Anyone who thinks he wasn't a genius just doesn't know their Tolkien :D

Oh tangerine tangets lol!

PS. I am calling it right now Channing Tatum is going to get divorced.

So, since you two started a tangent here :) (ugh brain fart, what was I going to write?).... oh right the BBC News said scientists have discovered the male brain checks out the female body more than the face. Really, scientists had to figure that out??!!

I dream music never created before as in when I am sleeping I come up with full orchestrations or jazz compilations. I just so wish I had the composition skills that John had.

Listen to Alfred Bendel too.

Yes, listen to Jurassic Park I and then listen to HP Chamber of Secrets you will see often some of the same keys (tones) and scales are used.

Yeah. I'm 30, and happily married to a gorgeous woman, and that gif still scrambled my brain for at least a couple of seconds.

They aren't reporting the real story on that one.

The real story is "Scientists have figured out ways to get people go give them money to spend time checking out women."

The obvious advertising link for the side of the page is "How to become a scientist in three easy steps"

HAHHAHSHAHHAHA pretty much!

ok time for another tangent, what people get away with writing is ludicrous. Like go to Barnes and see potty training books for parents written by pediatricians from Harvard. So, you have to have a Harvard degree to teach a 2-3 yr old how to go pee pee in the potty? Hm, let's see I was 14 babysitting my toddler cousin (who ironically has a chance at Harvard now as he's finishing up HS, how that boy even survived his household I'll never know let alone get straight As) I took some cheerios tossed them in the loo and said aim. Had him trained in 2 days.
I should write a book.

I always liked to imagine Voldermort (shudders) was Margret Thatcherand the death eaters her rich tory supporters.
