According to the polls most Americans are disgusted with Congress. They're bought and paid for by the lobbyists. People dislike Congressmen except their own set they usually don't get voted out of office. They represent gerrymandered districts. They've more accountable to their party's leadership than their own constituents. The seniority system they set up for themselves makes voting against one's own congressman detrimental to the best interests of their community. What's the best way to get congress to be responsible and responsive to the people?

You can't make cobgrass act responsibly. I suggest a barrel of weed-killer. :lamo

Why not issue a vote of no confidence and initate a public recall?

We don't have a mechanism for that on a national level, to recall ALL congresscritters. In fact, many or most states don't have such a recall mechanism at all.

But we probably should.

Why not issue a vote of no confidence and initate a public recall?

Because we get to vote on our representatives, not each others. These are the people elected by their constituents. If they don't like an individual, they will have the chance to replace them. If they like the individual, doesn't matter what New York and LA thinks of them.

1.Term limits. This limits the amount of influence and damage they can do.Most voters are ignorant and or have a short attention span when it comes to what their elected officials are doing, this ensures that the same scum keep getting elected office.Term limits prevents this.

2.A 5 year waiting period between different elected or appointed offices. For example if a senator wanted to run for congress, president, be appointed to position then he or she would have to wait 5 years. This would ensure that elected officials are unable to use their previous office to get favors or use their influence.THis would also make it hard for there to be career politicians.

3. Allow recall elections on the federal level by those elected official's constituents and ensure that recall elections can only be pushed by those in that elected officials district. Waiting until the next election to get of an elected official is a stupid idiotic moronic idea for the simple fact no one would wait 2-6 years to fire anyone working for them due to the damage that employee can do, but yet some retards think it is acceptable to 2-6 years to fire a tax payer funded employee.

4.No permanent benefits for any elected official. No retirement, no free security or any other ****.

5.All government will be held to the same laws that regular folds are expected to obey.If insider trading is illegal for avarage citizens then it is illegal for elected and appointed officials as well. If regular citizens are limited to one gun and one 7 round magazines then so is elected and appointed officials and their security detail has to share a single gun with a 7 round magazine.

6.Since the government can not trusted to do the right then the only secrets the government can keep are troop movements during a time of war.No more secrete programs, no black missions, no more cia missions into other countries, no more domestic spying and etc.

7.One subject at a time in bills. No more riders.

8.Elected officials will have to read every single bill they vote yes for. No more using interns and other staff to read the bills for them.

9.Only elected officials will write bills.Any bill that is written by any lobbyist or anyone not an elected official will not be voted on, it will have to be rewritten by the elected officials.

10.Bill will be written in layman's terms instead of rat lawyer speak a.k.a. legalese. So that elected official snd their constituents can easily read the bills.

11.Bills will have to be posted online for a minimum of 3 days(days will be determined by how many pages are in the bill) before being voted on and if any amendments/adjustments are made then that minimum 3 day starting period starts over again.

12.Every elected official will have to read out loud the bills they author/rewritten or amendments they have authored.

13.Elected officials will have to explain how the bills they authored/rewritten or amendments they have authored/rewritten pass constitutional muster.

14.Elected and appointed offices will not get pay raises. Nor will they be allowed to vote themselves any benifits or any laws that benefit them.

15.With exception to the president and vice president all elected and appointed officials will live in barracks similar to what lower enlisted infantry troops live in.They will all commute to work in secured public transportation and eat their meals in a chow hall similar to what in lower enlisted infantry troops eat at. This is so that elected officials will not have to spend any money while in DC and their expenses to the tax payers are minimized.

16.Autopen is banned.Elected and appointed officials must sign **** themselves.

17.Elected officials will not draw district maps.Computer programs will draw district maps and district maps will be based only on population size.

18.Party affiliations will be banned on polling places and ballots. Instead a short list of what issues the elected official supports and if applicable a short list of past votes to confirm or disprove what the elected official claims to support. On the voting booth walls will have a more thorough list issues the candidate supports and past votes to confirm or disprove if the elected officials actually believe the way they believe. In districts with a high voter turn out there will be pamphlets passes out to those waiting in lines to help speed up the process.

Here here. but if i may suggest a few things.
1. Total disbandment of the electorial congress. No more meaningless votes.
2. The people can created a bill and so long as they have a certain percent of voting for yes, congress has to sign it as law.
3.We should be able to see how our elected officials voted for those bills we post online. we kind of just let them do there own thing after being voted in and that really not right so we should be able to see if we still agree with what they are standing for.

Good luck with that. I'm not being facetious- I sincerely wish you luck with that.

No offence to anyone who voted for in but personally i cant see how ending gerrymandering would help, it would be the same place just with a less defined line. and ending party affiliations? its just the same concept only everyone is their own party's. at least this way you have a general idea what those party's stand for

We need some sort immediate feedback from the voters. I'm thinking a shock collar triggered by constituents via their smartphones.

Let's first work backwards. Why are people angry with Congress? Primarily becuase Congressmen won't work together. Why won't they work together? Because instead of typical politicians, in 2010 Americans sent 80 Tea Party members who stand on principle.

Apparently, America prefers business as usual.

Term limits. And I agree with most of james' post.

The problem is not Congress...it's not even the President. The problem is the people who voted for those guys.

We will see that next year when the GOP losers in the House are kicked out and the Democratic Party takes total control of the U.S. Government.

Not because of anything that the Democratic Party has done, but because of all of the things that the GOP has failed to do.

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP.

Wait and see.

A lot of GOPers in the House are about to see their terms limited in the next election.

Wait and see.

We don't need any new laws, those which we have are fine.

If you don't like someone you just vote them out.

Simple. Just kick out the losers and put someone else in their place.

Wait and see what happens next year.

Like I said...it's the voters.

Who appear to be swinging to the left.

Maybe...maybe not.

In any case, the people swinging to the left might not be such a good thing. We saw what happened the last time they swung to the left...back in 2008...didn't we?

No, the best way to make Congress act responsibly is for the people to demand it of Congress.

Scream and holler all that you want, if you don't vote you will have little effect.

Me? Scream and holler? LOL!! Sorry, but I don't scream and holler.

But, tell me...do you want Congress to act responsibly? Or do you just want the left to have control?

After the Democratic Party is given total control of Congress in the next election by the American people it will act responsibly.

:rofl

Do you really believe that? :2rofll:

Seriously, though...why do they wait? Why don't they start now? Hmmm?

If you have any influence withe GOP you might want to ask them that question, but that's up to to you.

My votes in future elections will be influenced by what my representatives do after this next election, which I believe will give the Democratic Party total control of Congress.

Me? I'm not a Republican. I don't have any influence with them...and I don't want any.

But tell me...do you intend to vote for responsible representatives? Or will you vote for the usual bunch who keep our current Congress crappy?
