given the USA deals with regimes like China and Pakistan etc. Shouldn't Cuba be considered for resumption of all diplomatic/trade/commerce and tourism?

Yes or no?

If the USA can do business with China I see no reason why it can't do business with Cuba.

Probably. Maybe alone with some conditions. They need us more than we need them so if it were me calling the shots, just off the top I'd ask for:

- Permission to put up legit radio and TV Marti (Voice of America's Cuban Service they've always jammed.)
- Co-operation in keeping illegal drugs out of the US, which they already do inadvertently.
- Pardoning political prisoners.
- We agree to offer National Hurricane Center advisories for Cuba, which we already do.
- Cooperation between universities.
- Exchange embassies and consulates.
- Agree to work together to fight terrorism and WMD proliferation.

It hasn't stopped Obama's best buds, Jay Z and Beyonce from doing w/e they wanted in Cuba, why should normal, working people who want to go to cuba be denied or be in danger of being attacked, should they go to Cuba, by cuban people who hate the US because of the way the US treats Cuba.

ANY American can travel to Cuba already provided it involves humanitarian work, faith related, educational, journalism, professional cionferences or cultural exchange, which was Jay-Z and Beyonce's reason. I have a friend who's been there three times with his church on missions trips.

http://wikitravel.org/en/Americans_in_Cuba ...and you don't even need to be best bud's with President Obama. ;)

lol, it's like a funny, sarcastic meme ("Thanks Obama!"), but I find it even more hilarious that some people really do blame everything on the guy.

Have you been to all of Cuba and met every cuban?

Personal experience doesnt' count for much really in such cases.

Interesting trivia: Cubans who are not residents of Havana need a visa to visit their own capital. They can get one though but only for visits of up to several weeks. I think it has to do with keeping people who live in rural areas put to work the farms and prevent having an over population problem in Havana. Russians who don't live in Moscow are under similar travel restrictions IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. The things we take for granted in America.

As they do not, we should not. Until they change their own tune or we think we can undermine them through trade, we can keep up our pretenses about human rights abuses.

That is a sad excuse for foreign policy.

It does get pretty funny.

I find a kind of weird disconnect. Especially on the health care front. I have been a bedside RN in critical care for over 30 years PLUS I have a chronically ill mom with multiple medical issues. SO I know healthcare inside and out. People make like in 2009 health care/medical insurance spontaneously went to crap - when of course health care and insurance went to crap over the past few decades.

But pardon me while I have a hot flash. Thanks Obama.

Self-interest guides foreign policy. The United States has never been excused from that.

It would be in our best interest to open trading doors with Cuba too. A new market is never a bad thing. What they do there has no negative effects on the United States, this isn't the Cold War, we don't need to set any example or pose as the figurehead for the democracy there. This is 2013, we have a struggling economy, 188 UN members have voted to condemn the embargo, we are not changing anything, just acting childish.
