It appears that most agree that if both branches of Congress won't give the president everything he wants, the entire government should be shut down and government put into bankruptcy, blaming the branch of Congress that dares to exercise it's constitutional authority to decide what it will and won't pay for.

Since a majority of people believe both branches of Congress must yield to any and all economic increase and programs demands of either branch of Congress or the presidency, should Congress just be eliminated and replaced with an elected monarchy?

No no no no no. That could be one of the worst things we can do right now. Just saying "ehhh **** it" is probably the worse idea.

No, but they should take drastic cuts in pay and benefits. They should also have limits to how many terms they can serve.

Federal employees don't get paid when they are busy playing politics, but guess who get's their nice juicy paychecks and benefits? Congress!

Have you ever heard of the U.S. Constitution?

No, Congress should do their job and legislate.... which includes negotiation. They should stop grandstanding, stop trying to re-litigate old matters, respect the parties in power (in the House; in the Senate and in the White House) and respect the concept of the "full faith and credit of the United States". There is too much tail trying to wag the dog and power plays based on a game chicken.

There is NO intelligent reason for the government to be shut down and for the US government to be playing with the prospect of default on US obligations. Congress, has a whole, has behaved very badly.
