Could George W Bush Mediate the Impasse?

Here's a hypothetical: if Bush were to come out of hiding and announce his support for re-opening the gov't and raising the debt ceiling, would that have any effect?

Or do Dems and Repubs equally loathe him and it wouldn't make a difference?

Yes I would say the Dems really loathe him and they for sure would want nothing to do with him. The Republicans who caused this shutdown are the ones who consider GWB a RINO and a far too liberal president. They hold him responsible for TARP and want nothing to do with him. His political clout is long gone, perhaps lost forever when the Dems took back congress in 2006 and housing market crash.

No, keep GWB on the sidelines and in retirements, he probably would just make matter worse.

Bush couldn't even spell impasse.

that's just plain stupid. Bush's IQ is higher than several of the most beloved Dem presidents or wannabes. Higher than Kerry's for example. Former White House Counsel Lanny Davis noted Bush is very bright and was a genius in getting along with people which is the sign of intelligence

Here's a float for you..
If the USA were sane, a group of a couple dozen big-time governorswould make a difference in DC..
However brother Pero, we are no longer sane politically..
That is why it will take a combination of World Bankers, Chamber of Commerce types, and yes the Koch brothers
or their stature with another letter this week to scare said party to settle.

Every little bit helps with this impasse.
I believe GWB can and has spoken through his brother..
He has honored the Nation during BHO's time by following his Father's advice..
In spite of the many BHO insults toward GWB you can Think of.

I never knew BushII ever had an official IQ test. Do tell us more...

Using the term 'a genius at' doesn't mean intelligent- in this case more like manipulative, or unwilling to confront, smile but ignore- hell every politician has that talent. There are quite a few other staffers who tell tales of inattention, no desire to 'dig down' on a subject. The Decider in Chief may have been a lot of things, a genius at anything seems a stretch.

I'll have to check and see if Cheney or Rummy thought BushII was a genius...

That poor man has a heart problem despite his fitness. Leave him alone pls.

five years of Obama and the Bush Derangement syndrome still persists I see. Bush had a military IQ test-did better than Kerry. He's much smarter than the legions of dems who tried to denigrate his presidency by calling him stupid.

Lets see-Gore almost flunked out of Harvard, failed to complete 2 of the 3 academic programs he entered

Kerry-despite being a nerd at yale, had lower grades than the party boy Bush. Bush got into the top business school in the USA-Kerry had to settle for the third or fourth best law school in boston.

Could be, but I agree on no longer being sane. By the way, Michelle Nunn has raised 1.7 million for her senate campaign. She'll be well financed. I thought it strange that I received a letter from her yesterday asking for support. But I guess I should have, I support her daddy and gave to his campaign several times along with another Democrat Richard Ray when he was my congressman. That was a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday. i suppose a whole bunch of people received letters from her. She is serious indeed.

I doubt that he would ever consider it! It would certainly cause consternation though, and the only ones who would benefit would be the media, who would have a field day! We certainly don't need more drama, do we? :lamo

BUsh needs to do a rehab tour like Carter and Nixon. I vote yes...at least, he should try it.

you're right. How about Reid and McConnell actually talking to one another. I'm shock, when I heard that on the news I almost had a heart attack. Two of the most partisan hack idiots this country every had and they're talking to each other. WOW!

I could wallpaper a small room with the requests I have received this year alone! State, local, fire department, library, schools, food bank, local charities, and more...and it's not over yet!

You're still in their data bank dude..I get the requests online also since that's where I give..
She''ll certainly need more than 1.7 M to turn this Senate seat..
Dollars are just like pieces on a Risk board game.

I was all set to sign up then decided to check her out. I thought she still lived down near her daddy in Perry. No such luck. She has lived the last 20 years or so in Atlanta. Now she has me wondering if she ain't an Atlanta liberal. Instead of joining her campaign I put it off until I find out where she stand on the issues. I'll never vote for an Atlanta Liberal.

She has the right last name, but now I am wondering if she is level headed like her daddy. Time will tell.

As a good American voter should..
I'll never vote for an Atlanta Liberal.
Atlanta is your media Capital and your regular old Capital..Stands to reason she would relocate there with her Husband and two Children.

I like this idea Polgara..
After our basement flooded with mine-shaft backup and wrecked it, we've been in a holding pattern..
What do you do with a wife who is a recycling hoarder and a procrastinator??I really could use some hep here.

The man has few friends.

You never really know WTF you're talking about, especially here. He doesn't need a friend in Washington, dude you are one desperate far leftwing centrist. No real centrist would come out flaming the way you do.

The only good things in Atlanta are the Braves and Georgia Tech. It is said you have Atlanta and its surrounding towns and suburbs and then the rest of Georgia which is pretty rural with small towns and country. Heck Atlanta and its suburbs take up about 5 counties and counting. Heck when I grew up Atlanta was a small town with a bunch of railroads. I can remember I-20 being nothing more than a two lane highway. Times sure have changed.

A question was asked and I answered it.

Anyone who doesn't like my answer can ignore it.

Have a nice day.

We really aren't that much different, except Chicago up here, and St. Louis down there have always been big..
Georgia and Illinois are 24 and 25 in area, half that of New Mexico, let alone the top 4..
As of 2012, we had seven cities between 100 and 200 thousand people, none above..
Exciting watching your cities and towns for the Senate!

GAWD and I made a deal a long time ago.... SHE said I have already been in hell, I get a pass (dunno how you are making it through though, ain't heard you speak ;) )

As far as crap goes, Dubya left town and NO ONE but comics and political pundits were sad to see him go. His own party hasn't invited him back for anything since.

they speak volumes in their collective silence... :2razz:

Should I get you some Kaopectate?

Course being a Bush didn't hurt...

So what was the score on the military entrance test, it isn't a true IQ test, I took one, my GT was 126, OCS required 120.

Giving some stats rather than 'just saying' would be helpful. The 2006 Simonton study has BushII from 119 uncorrected to 124 cumulative. Clinton has a 141 and a 148 respectively.

Care to drop the CON game and dispute the facts. BushII isn't so much refraining from political comment as not invited to comment. No appearances at the conventions. No attending campaigns to support GOP candidates, very unusual. So it goes far past 'rising above the fray' to a very simple no GOP politician wants to be photographed with Loser BushII.

But let's give it 20 to 30 years, even Nixon was remembered well at his State Funeral.... :peace
