We won the space race and the cold war
and we own the moon What else is there to do?

space is humainitys future.

at least it is to one who can dream of giant space colonies.
You know in the movies where they have to save the Earth from a killer asteroid? I always root for the asteroid.

how important is space exploration to the future of America? Is there none? Do we need to get back up there?

I believe it's extremely important.

But our President, Barack Obama doesn't. In fact Obama already announced what the main mission of NASA will be from now on. Reaching out to the Muslims world.

NASA Chief: Move Out Of The Way Startrek, Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.

The only real benefit is the reapplication of technology developed by the space program. Exploration in and of itself is ultimately unimportant.

Well we nailed food in a pouch, Tang, and adult diapers. What can get for the under 65 crowd?

reach for the stars?

build space colonies?

colinize mars?
the stars are out of our reach

there is no atmosphere on Mars
nor is there a magnetic field to keep the radiation form space from frying you

a self sufficient 'space colony' is far outside our current technological grasp

sorry the romanticism of space is over

TOL's killer asteroid could end us but that's not going to happen until the year
3962 and long before that we will have colonized many other worlds and developed
the technology to tractor beam the rock off course and save the planet so he'll be disappointed (yet again)

I have the perfect book for you. One of my favorites. God's War: Bel Dame Apocrypha Really, it's not a trap.

Industrial polymers and alloys, renewable energy sources, advanced military weapon systems, advancement in aerodynamic design and engineering, etc.
This is modern America. It's probably too much to ask for better Tang and diapers.

to colonize space we may have to overcome greater things then just technological handicaps.

we could colonize space, if we first put aside differences and unite behind a global space program.

i believe that conquering space is something that one nation can not do alone, but the combined wealth and scientific research of every nation working in unison can bring about the progress needed to conquer space

I will admit I'm excited by the prospect of what we will be able to see with the james webb space telescope

there's no money to be made in space otherwise you'd see a monster race

In the reviews I liked this part:

"Nyx's bitter nature and morbid outlook soured the experience for me. She just isn't at all enjoyable to read about. Her thoughts revolve around death and pain and getting drunk, and that's most of what she experiences."

IRL TOL I bet yer a laugh a minute
