Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

You make it a habit of assigning others statements to those who didn't issue it? And TD's comment wasn't about the bravery of those who own weapons, but rather the spinelessness of some people who hate others having guns, you apparently didn't read between the lines.

several studies have indicated that personal timidity is often a motivating factor behind gun banning attitudes

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

Nope...Im about to show you how stupid your position is.

You don't know what my position is, laddybuck. But let's see how bad it gets...

(he said, rolling up his sleeves)

you admit that you DONT believe in disarming the police. Why? Well...because they deal with violent criminals and thugs. Sweet. But then you completely jump the tracks when you ignore the REALITY as to WHOM those violent criminals and thugs TARGET before they draw police attention. You remember the police...right? the guys you think SHOULD be armed? Because in YOUR happy little world...you nor anyone you know has ever had to deal with violent criminals. Some of us have. A good number of us in fact. Why...when you look at the crime statistics the FACT is that 1 in 4 women are going to be sexually assaulted in their lifetime and 5 in 6 citizens will be involved in some form of violent crime. No...not in a year, and certainly people that live in some communities are less likely while others are more likely to skew the figures high. But...the reality is that the majority of people will be involved in a violent crime at some time in their adult lives. Why do people carry armed? Because they choose not to be a 'victim'.

In my happy little world, violent criminals and thugs target other violent criminals and thugs. I don't know what your numbers mean because you didn't tell me where they come from, when, or what they represent but it doesn't matter anyway. You want to/feel you need to carry a gun and that's fine with me. Fill yer holster. I hope, for the sake of those around you, that you have a clue or two of what you're doing but making sure of that would be regulation and that can't be allowed, can it. As I said elsewhere, if I feared for my safety and my family's security to the same extent, I'd arm myself too. But I'm trying to understand, if the society you live in is really so violent, why you live there. There's a nagging suspicion that I can't quite quiet that says, maybe the situation isn't so dire.

Your little cable you have dangling I'm sure serves you just fine. But others...well...they would laugh at it. And BTW... :lamo at your cute little internet tough guy portrayal with your bad ass 2 foot length of tech cable.

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

I didn't. Go back and read the post. It was not assigned to you. You just over looked the quote attribution.

And TD's comment wasn't about the bravery of those who own weapons, but rather the spinelessness of some people who hate others having guns, you apparently didn't read between the lines.

Yes, they were. You didn't read between the lines. He was saying that I must be a coward for not wanting to keep a gun position 1 at all times. Now that we're done with that ridiculous mess, did you want to have a discussion at all, or was this just meant to be a big circle jerk for you guys that I've interrupted.

I put up a hypothetical about the validity of the arguments of danger that were used in this thread as the basis of the rationale for keeping the chamber round. Do you, or anyone else, want to address the argument that, if you're argument for keeping it hot is that you may be attacked at any moment, then aren't you taking additional precautions? When I've kept a pistol on me in the past, I only put a round in the chamber when I was pulling into a place that I considered to be of specific danger. The rest of the time I was just carrying it to have when I actually did see a specific danger. In the rest of the day, seeing no specific danger, I didn't feel the need to be ready to shoot at all times.

I see arguments here that people do feel the need to be ready to shoot at all times. So my question is, if that's really true, if you're really facing a real threat of attack at any moment, why not take more sane precautions, such as a vest?

This is an exercise to help me see your rationale for carrying one in the chamber. That's all.

Again, you didn't read between the lines.

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

Again, you didn't read between the lines.

You've dodged the entire question a third time. So at least I have an answer to my other question: Yes, this is a circle jerk.

Oh, and TD was responding to my post that argued against carrying a gun with one in the chamber and he asked if I was motivated by "cowardice". That tells us that he thinks it's "brave" to keep a round chamber. He honestly thinks that it's "brave" to be afraid at all times that you may be attacked, and that not being that scared at all times is cowardly. So there were no lines to read between.

And you seem to have finished before you ever started, so I guess I am, as well.

I never said it was brave-I said it was proper based on my years of training and my well recognized expertise in this field. Go and find me a single reputable trainer who advocates carrying an empty chamber. And find me one police department where that is the norm

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

Under Armor was actually developed to lessen some of the effects, the cooling effect and lightness of the shirts were developed because personnel wanted to get the pinch of other clothing alleviated.

When I was in the Army, I avoided Under Armor like the plague after trying it out. I'm sure they make new stuff now, but that compression fit crap was uncomfortable as hell, and if you get caught in a flash fire/explosion/anything else involving extreme heat, it'll be like wearing napalm on your upper torso. Develops a nasty stink that can't be washed out, and can only be machine washed a couple of times before those pesky little pin-holes start showing up. Go with Starter or Xpro(?) instead. It's only about 10-15 bucks a shirt, and they're made of the same materials.

Hmm. I get the napalm comment but maybe it was their first line, the new stuff is exceptional IMO. The material definitely doesn't like open fire though I can vouch for that, when I smoked I had a cigarette ash into my shirt and it pretty much melted with all the side effects on my skin, hurt like hell.

EDIT - Forgot a couple of things. My Under Armor gear hasn't failed material wise in over a decade, I actually beat the pro athelete and sponsor marketing when I bought it, was impressed right off the bat. I have stiching finally failing in the armpit region but it's still holding up, and the vinyl actually faded before the actual material portion, the composition of the shirt is solid but the sleeves are finally giving up.

That's what I was thinking. Private citizens are a predator's prime target, especially those they think are unaware, fragile, or prone to give in without any kind of fight.

I only dechamber under certain circumstances, like children or irresponsbile adults present or if I get an intuitive feeling that I should. Under normal circumstances I'm locked and loaded.

They may have better cuts now, but from what I can tell, they use the same materials. The hot weather stuff was real pinchy around the armpits, and the sleeves were weird. Ended up cutting the sleeves off of one shirt, which made it so much more comfortable. The cold weather stuff was the worst, though, because it stayed warm for about 30 seconds before it started making me even colder. It only works if you're staying active at all times because it's a temperature conductor. IMO, cotton is still the reigning champ. For a concealed kevlar vest, I just wore a wife-beater underneath. Did the trick well enough.

My big worry was the UA cold weather gear, still haven't tried it for winter training and probably will go cotton for that, my UA shirt though is extremely comfortable, I've actually gotten more pinch from a few of my cotton shirts than my gym wear. Then again, everyone is built differently and has different comfort levels, but I loved the Under Armor gear personally.

Body type is definitely a factor, and the fact that I haven't worn UA since maybe 2010. The cold weather stuff they had then felt like a thinner wetsuit fabric, and you had to stay active to generate the body heat it needed in order to work properly. Good for PT, bad for anything that has you sitting around more than moving around. The silk-weight poly pro stuff they issued in the Army works very well, though. You can probably pick up a shirt and bottom for about 30-40 bucks at a surplus store.

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

How I wish there had been sound with that. I'd love to know what he said to the guy.

The clerk was on FOX this morning. He said, "You better get your --------ass out of this store before a blow your -------head off"

The crook complied.

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

I'm sure I will, Surtr. No, I'm not going to carry the .38. It's too big. I want something smaller. Last weekend, we were with a good friend who showed me his carry weapon. It's a 380...? If I remember correctly? I'll ask again when the time comes. It's a small weapon, but he says it packs a great punch. (Again ??) He put it in his cargo pants pocket and it was invisible. I like that. I'd have to worry about showing a holster. A pocket seems more user-friendly to me. Who knows though? I'm going to try as many as I can before I buy.

Howz about we make you an honorary Texan?

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

Your analysis is sound and gun packers are damned by the anti defense crowd no matter what they do. But one of the reasons for the ridicule is that it involves self hating by the hoplophobes. Many anti rights advocates are fearful of their own lack of skill and courage and they see gun ownership as something that reminds them of their personal inadequacies. They ridicule gun carriers in an attempt to exorcise their own failings

I think it goes deeper than that, because I don't consider myself well trained or an expert on all firearms but I've never had any issues with gun ownership, the 2nd Amendment or people pursuing gun expertise either for hobby, profession or just self-defense. Fortunately I have access to friends who are highly knowledgeable, experienced, trained and have adequate collections of firearms of various types. So when I have a question, I have no problem getting an answer.

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

It honestly makes you feel "brave" to have a round chamber at all times? How exactly is that bravery?

I've been shooting since I was 9 and I started boxing when I was 15. Maybe you don't know what you're talking about?

So there's not enough of a danger to be uncomfortable but there is enough of a danger to keep a round chamber? I mean, if there's a real risk at any given time, I agree. But if there isn't, I just think it's an unnecessary addition to an already high risk. Any time you handle a gun it's dangerous. I'm sure you already know that. Any time you handle one that's round, it's much, much more dangerous.

For example, at a range I used to shoot on, we had to walk out to pull our targets. When we broke to get our targets, everyone had to put their gun on the table, unloaded with the safety on, and no one was allowed to touch their weapons again until we all agreed to an all clear. That's because it's dangerous any time you handle a gun, especially one that's loaded and round. (That site, by the way, had been open since before I was born and had never had an accident -- for good reason, they practiced rational safety).

Sometimes there's a call for carrying hot. I don't argue that at all. Cops, soldiers, some security personel, and people who are being stalked or are moving through a risky area or expect to be in an area they feel could present danger -- along with people who have dangerous lifestyles, like drug dealers. All good reasons to carry hot. I just think people should take a look at their environment before they decide to step it up to position one.

Most of you probably already have. Some of you, though, are probably doing it because it makes you feel "brave" for some reason.

All ranges require guns unloaded and pointing down range. Everyone knows the safest place on a gun is behind the muzzle. What does that have to do with a holstered weapon?

Re: Do you carry one in the chamber?

Lasermax? Does that mean the laser shows exactly where you're aimed? I'm in!!!!!

Yep...thats the ticket.

Ive been really impressed with the LCP. It just shoots. Ball ammo works best. And the laser component is nice. It makes a really good training tool as well. Helps you with trigger pull. You can do a lot of pull correction on the range.
