States wrongs trumping atheists? Do we even have a 1st amendment? What happened to the rights of the minority? Are3 only certain minorities in certain issues to be protected?

Yes there are laws that protect minority and women's rights, as far as I know there is no laws protecting atheist rights.

Can a person speak to another person "upstairs" about a recent infraction? I do not want to get in further trouble as I have before? Does this happen only when one poster turns in another poster?

i think thats a no-no
i think you could get points and or a warning to take your conversation to BINKY
why whats up does it deal with me? if so PM me

I think it might found to be in violation, but I don't necessarily agree that it actually would be a violation. The constitution doesn't really care about anyone but white men. I believe that a clear Civil rights Amendment is necessary for that reason. It ends any chance for a debate to exist, and it should have been done long, long ago.

i agree on the amendment

You mean the civil war? The war that virtually ended states rights?

Yes, the civil war, you know the thing you mentioned in the post I quoted? And yes, you obviously would have to be against the Civil War.

Though anyone saying it's State rights would also have to be against the Civil War as that was State's rights too.

Not necessarily. One can support a war of aggression against a foreign neighbor for human rights atrocities committed by that neighbor and still support State's rights. State's rights doesn't necessarily preclude one from supporting wars against foreign nations.

Why would it matter which group it is being discriminated against? If the State is capable of discriminating against X group, it is able to discriminate against Y and Z group as well.

it doesnt it was just a dodge

As I said earlier some groups have specific legal protection, as far as I know atheist don't.

I think it matters tremendously.

Sometimes people need to be treated differently for the betterment of everyone else.

The point I was making was a war is what imposed northern views on the south and I don't think this atheist thing rates another war.

Here I thought that members of the LBGT community were the last group subjected to institutionalized discrimination. Color me surprised to find that I, too, am being subjected to institutionalized discrimination. Bummer. :(

You're an atheist huh, who would have guessed.

Certainly not, but the logical extension of your argument is that you'd be against the Civil War.

sorry that doesnt answer the question
can states rights say no women are allowed to hold office? blacks? gays? and you think thats constitutional?

Politicians are liars so, why wouldn't they just lie about that?

FWIW, The Texas law has never been challenged or revoked or used in modern times. Much ado about nothing.

The question was "why would it matter" not "do you think it matters".

I edited my response to include:

Sometimes people need to be treated differently for the betterment of everyone else.

The concepts of "freedom" and "rights" are a balancing act. At some point your freedom starts to infringe on other's and we need to determine where to go forward. Not everyone can do what they want, when they want, how they want.

Linear thinking is not thinking. The world is far more complex than that.

States Rights, yes? When the world is more complex then your simple equation, you revise the equation. So obviously then you're not ALWAYS for State Rights over Federal Rights as you make it seem when you discuss discrimination and bigotry against atheists. States Rights sometimes, but Federal power should the States not perform the way you think they should.

i mentioned that in the OP and later also, so theres no much to do ;)

Which groups, specifically, need to be treated differently for "the betterment of everyone else"?

Atheist rights? I'm not sure really, giving atheist rights takes away religious peoples rights.

You mean getting rid of laws that restrict atheist representation and participation in government would take away your rights? Your right to what? Keep me out of office because I don't believe in the same god you do? Sounds very Middle East to me.
