During the GW Bush presidency he was constantly ridiculed in the media and by private citizens. A rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask did an act that the crowd went crazy for and the media and politicians are quick to condemn. The question I pose is Obama fair game just as Bush was?

Obama is a public figure, of course he's fair game. And I remember Conservatives getting quite upset over the treatment of Bush saying people should have respect for the president even though they don't like his views and actions. Now, that the shoes on the other foot, conservatives have no problem ridiculing the president. How many "messiah" comments or "The annoited one" have we heard from the right?

The fringes on both sides are hypocritical in nature. Dems hounded Bush while saying it was ok and Reps didn't like it. Now Reps are hounding Obama while saying it is ok and the Dems don't like it.

Are we asking as if Obama hasn't been subjected to ridicule in the media and by private citizens?

Like who in the media? only ones have been a few on Fox news name one in any of the Alphabet Networks that have? they have very seldom if anything been critical of Obama let alone ridiculed. And when a private citizen has ever ridiculed Obama the Alphabet Networks are very quick to chastised that citizen

You cant disagree with this president without being accused being a racist by some of those networks

You live an alternate reality if you think the media treats Obama the same as Bush

Once again the question; Is Obama fair game just as Bush was?

...This cannot be a serious answer.

Hell, just on "private citizens" alone, this site is awash in people ridiculing President Obama daily.

Sure -- Obama should be fair game just like Dubya.

I would advise folks to not misunderestimate him, though, because he's now the decider.

I again ask you, is this question seriously posed as if people aren't treating Obama as fair game already?

"Is x fair game like y was?" is a question that only applies assuming x is being treated differently than y was.

Bingo. Yes, Obama is "fair game" as Bush was "fair game". And yes, there can be low class, ridiculous, uncalled for versions of ridicule and mocking towards both that I feel rises a bit beyond what should be found reasonable when talking about the POTUS. But people are free to be low class, ridiculous, and petty.

Of course, any public figure, including the POTUS, is going to have fans as well as some that dislike their actions/opinions. The difference, that you have observed, is mainly which public figures the majority of the media chooses to defend/excuse.

Not sure what the alphabet network is, but source?

Source?

You'll have no problem bringing me back to reality with a source then, won't you?

Of course not. The world is out to get you and make Conservatives look bad. It's a vast conspiracy. The UN, the media, Hollywood....

Of course he's fair game just like Bush was. I had many issues with Bush when he was president. Some of his policies and decisions were, in my opinion were bad for the country. I feel the same way about Obama. I felt it was silly and childish when people put monkey masks on Bush and the same with Obama. My preacher is a republican and has many things to say about Obama and the Dems. but he keeps it out of the Church. About 2 months ago the audio guy in the back put on an Obama mask, the only person that saw it was the Preacher, he stopped the sermon and told the guy that the church was not the place for childish acts like that. A few days later we were having a meeting, at night in the Fellowship hall and the same guy put some kind of political cartoon on the bulletin board, the Preacher saw it, took it down and proceeded to explain to this idiot that a Church is not the place for this kind of political crap. The guy has not been back in Church since then.

There's plenty to criticize Obama on with out getting all school yard childish. The same with Congress and the Senate, non of them are doing what they should be doing.

Sure he is fair game... problem is that some of the attacks are based on racism, and that is something Bush never had to contend with.

Yes. It's just that he has to be ridiculed in different arenas, because never, EVER, will the drive by media fire at him.

I am always amused when I hear the "It is very disrespectful not to refer to him as President Obama" by democrats who a) drop the President when referring to Bush and b) drop the President when referring to Obama (yes I am talking about you Melissa Harris-Perry)

NO. People that ridicule Obama are racist haters and they hate the fact that a half black man is in the "White"house.

That's because some of his remarks are based on racism. Bush never had to contend with that because he wasn't stupid enough to elicit counter attacks.

Bush Derangement Syndrome and Obama Derangement Syndrome are two of the most annoying manifestations of America's 'culture wars'. The delusion and the fervor of these delusions are nothing short of extraordinary. I just can't quite decide which is/was worse.

Care to cite examples of those "racist" attacks?

I will get you started:

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Biden's description of Obama draws scrutiny - CNN.com

EDIT: Or this little gem from Harry Reid:

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid apologized on Saturday for saying the race of Barack Obama – whom he described as a "light skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one" – would help rather than hurt his eventual presidential bid.

We just had a thread about how all the talk shows are making fun of Obama, and most liberals thought it was funny. That's because most of these talk show guys are funny. They're talented comedians with good writers to back them up. Except Leno, his jokes aren't funny, but that's no because he's making fun of Obama. It's because Leno sucks.

Now, conservatives: those email forwards you keep getting about Obama? Those aren't funny. They're bad. Worse, half of them are recycled from years ago, just replacing Clinton/Bush with Obama. They'd probably recycle Reagan jokes too, but email wasn't really a thing then. When you recycle a joke, it tends not to get funnier, and they were bad to begin with. The thing about Bush/Obama jumping out of a plane without a parachute? That wasn't funny the first time. I got it with Bush's name, and I thought "somebody believed this was worth my time, and now I hate that person for thinking that."

One comment about non-joke political emails: they're usually wrong. If you see fw:fw: at the start, and it's about politics, just assume somebody is lying to you.

Okay.

Swing and a miss.

Matthews didn't hold that opposition to Obama was racist, merely that certain comments made about Obama were racial in tone and insensitive, and that individuals who ignored the underlying racial tone of these comments were dead wrong.

A far cry from the standard you've set up, wherein any criticism of Obama is considered racist.

Swing and a miss, again.

Eric Dyson held that in reference to Obama's treatment of the supreme court, use the term "bullying" to describe it was something a racist would do.

I might not agree completely with Dyson's assessment...

But again, it is a far cry from the standard you've set up, wherein any criticism of Obama is considered racist.

Swing and a miss, for a third time.

Eric Dyson characterized the GOP's blanket refusal to work with the President in any capacity as racist.

This is again a far cry from the standard you've set up, wherein any criticism of Obama is considered racist.

Hell, all of these are examples of where specific arguments or insults against Obama are deemed racist. Whether they are or are not can be debated, but none of them meet the standard you set forth in your opening post: That Obama is being untreated unfairly compared to Bush, and that any and all criticism of Obama were deemed racist.

These two aren't even worth mentioning, merely a link that ask the same question you do with no substantiative evidence to support it's position and a blog.
