at some point you have to stop blaming others for your inability to understand a simple argument or position (my position couldn't have been any clearer) ... if you want to ask me a direct question, feel free to and if it's a serious question, I'll do my best to respond ... but please don't go around telling posters that they "surrendered" or "retreated" when they get off or disengage ... that gets old and it really does remind me of what kids do ...

Lol! Here is TD's post and then your reply. You made a claim, TD confronted you about it, and you wimped out. Take responsibility for your awful debating here.

nice retreat. I see only you think the term PIMP has to be a slur against blacks.

LOL ... later TD ...:2wave:

trust me Chrisl, I've responded to that stupidity too many times to do it again ... if you too believe that calling a black man a pimp and a white man a pimp, given the history of racism and racial stereotypes in this country, is the same thing, then you have found a soul mate in TD and a lot of other bigoted folks on these threads, mostly cons ... and please, grow up -- "wimped out?" - this isn't high school Chris ... come on ...

Dude, a pimp is a pimp. There is no "hidden" meaning. You sound paranoid.

as I thought ... I'm not black, but you just reminded me of a guy who once observed, "If you're a black man in Amerikkka and you're not paranoid, you're crazy." ... I have a low tolerance for bigotry, especially the subtle, cowardly expressions of it ... so it's actually best I ignore those who engage in it more often ... it's hard to do that sometimes ... but I'll try harder ... you have my word ...

You spelled America wrong. :)

No they aren't. They are asking that they not break the laws in Russia while there. It's really simple for them to not get in any trouble actually.
Being homosexual in Russia is breaking the law in this case..

Being homosexual in Russia is breaking the law in this case..

Not to my understanding. My understanding of the law is they treat open homosexuality like a movie rating "R". That the law is to protect minors from being exposed to it.

Consider it like our "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" type laws.

With all the controversy around a new Russian law against homosexual "propaganda", some are calling for the US to boycott the 2014 winter Olympics in Russia. I don't think we should because it just punishes the athletes that have been training and preparing their whole lives.

What do you think?

It would be stupid to boycott the olympics over something like that.

The games should either be moved, the best choice, or we should stay home, which is unfair and will suck for the athletes but countries have to take a stand at times and this is one of them.

Although the games have been held in counties we have deep conflicts with, they didn't threaten our athletes like Russia has. If the games aren't moved, we hold our own and let the world come here.

So you would punish the athletes for a political statement made to make you feel better?

Most of those athletes would never have a chance to compete in another olympics so you would take away their only chance in their lives to compete and what over a law in another country about gays?

Are you really that heartless?

Winter Olympics, male figure skaters, we might be opening a can of worms here...
It should be up to the individuals but we're sending people into a situation where they could be arrested, convicted and jailed. It was bad enough at Nagano when Ross Rebagliatti was interrogated for 8 hours after testing positive for pot but this could be much worse.

Even Russia wouldn't be that stupid.

That would créate the biggest international incident that has ever happened.

For the anti-homosexual law, no. Combined with asylum for Snowden, I would at least have to consider it.

Was it the fault of the athletes that Snoden was given asylum? Why punish them?

There are more important things than going to the Olympics. It would suck for them but that happens sometimes when you are being patriotic and standing up for what your country stands for.

Well this isn't one of them.

I believe that you are mistaken, but you have a lot of fans in the peanut gallery who think Russia threatening our athletes is no big deal. We'll see.

Russia is not threatening our athletes.

They would be crazy to do something like this.

You do not let a matter that affects an extremely small part of the opopulation dictate what the other part does.

This is not an important matter.

Do you think this is important because it involves gays or is it something else?

Crazy is what they are at the moment, unfortunately.

Even Russia wouldn't be that stupid.

That would créate the biggest international incident that has ever happened.

Japanese cops took a Canadian snowboarder into custody because he'd won the gold but tested positive for marijuana (a well-known performance-enhancing drug). Russia would definitely express it's sovereignty any way it felt needful.
But I've heard they're saying they'll give a pass to the Olympic athletes so long as order is maintained.

Drugs are a very serious charge. That was a positive act onthe part of the Canadian snowboarder. Being a certain is not a positive act, and again I will say, it would be crazy and cause an international incident of they arrested people for being gay.

I am a patriot, but that does not include boycotting with every special interest group around. I'm sorry, but people with your attitude are the reasons why people choose to hate such groups.

It isn't what you choose in life, but how you wish to push your agenda on others.

I'm sorry to say this, but I despise such pursuits when trying to force upon others. You have such contempt for others that you should receive the same.

So... you don't care if USA athletes have their dreams dashed as long as every other country's athletes have their dreams dashed too, and the games are shut down? Not very sporting of you. :)

You misunderstand me. I say we should go and if Russia causes problems then it is Russia's problem and the Olympic Committee can decide to cancel the Olympics due to Russia's interference with the competitors in the games.

You are correct, I did misunderstand you. Apologies, and thanks for the clarification.

I say we should take stand for what our country stands for by going.

Not only no, but heck no.
