I thought Evangelical by definition meant Protestant. Isn't that the case? If so, why did you say 'Other'?
 
I think multiple votes should have been allowed. I'm an atheist and a Buddhist. No contradiction in that. My tuppence on the ahteist/agnostic issue is that I'm an atheist because I do not believe in the existence of a god; that doesn't mean I believe there is no god. I guess I'm an agnostic atheist Buddhist.

Atheism is not, in and of itself, a belief. Atheist is the lack of a belief in "god." I'd bet this entire forum is atheist for almost every god except maybe one or two. (Do we have any Hindus? There's a vague line,too, with deities, avatars, etc.)

I sympathize. When prompted for a religious identification I'll reflexively answer Jewish, but I'm a non-believer.
 
Sherman, as an atheist I've always counseled folks that if you need a doctor or lawyer get a Jew.

You can't be an atheist for specific Gods ... you are either a theist, or an atheist OR agnostic. A theist means you believe there IS NO GOD ....

Take the eye thing, I don't BELIEVE you have blue eyes, but I don't not believe it either ... I DON'T KNOW, I withhold judgement, that's agnostic.

If you withhold judgement, you are not saying Atheism i.e. NO god, you are saying agnostic, I don't know.
 
I have a functional concept of a god, but it's not supernatural or metaphysical; it's not eternal, personal, or omniscient; it has no voice, no form, no opinions or emotions. It's just the sum of all things. All matter, space, time and energy. In short, it's the unfolding universe. I don't worship it, flatter it, chant to it, supplicate myself to it, kneel before it, or wear special hats to remind me of it. I have this concept so I can pray, and I do that just because I'm not good at meditating, but I think it's useful.

All of that being the case, I call myself an atheist even though I have a concept I call god and I pray at it. The prayer is just a substitute for meditation.

His version of saving souls includes calling you a "****ing heathen", among other things. I have the emails to prove it.

I could think of worse things to be. I had a man come to my door once to invite me and my children to his church. When he asked what religion we practiced and I said "none", he started railing about how my children would spend eternity burning in hell.

I quickly told him that if he didn't remove his ass pronto from my porch, I would send him there today.

There are also evangelical Catholics and Messianic Jews.

Oh, okay. I hadn't heard of Catholic evangelicals. Does that mean groups such as the Jesuits? Nor have I ever heard Messianic Jews referred to as 'evangelical'. Perhaps you wouldn't mind explaining this a bit more. Interesting stuff.

I worked with a guy once that was that religion. he didn't talk too much about it. He was a really cool guy to work with.

What's that religion all about anyways?

Evangelism is an individual thing rather than a religious order or org. The term I've heard is "charismatic Catholic."

They are PMs but I cannot in good conscious report anything. Based upon the rules I am one of the worst offenders. Honor among misanthropes. Still, his Faith makes for very funny reading, especially when he said that Jesus founded the Catholic Church.

So, what kind of Christian are you? If a 'charismatic' Catholic, why wouldn't the Catholic tag apply? Is that because you're not a Roman Catholic? I know a lot of Anglo-catholics who get upset if you refer to Anglicanism/Episcopalianism as a protestant church.
