I agree but that isn't the question. This is about teaching kids what their politics should be.

Sure it is. Kids are sponges. To some, teaching your kids anything involving a value that touches a red herring issue will be perceived by some as teaching them what their politics should be, particularly if that is in opposition to the speaker's politics. That in turn predisposes a child to grow up with a worldview that favors or disfavors one party or the other or one agenda or another.
 
the kids need to decide for themselves. if i have a kid, i'm sure my values will transfer somewhat, but i'm not going to brainwash him or her into being an independent. my parents put up with my Republican / Libertarian partisan phases, even when they didn't agree. i ended up finding my own way by looking at the data.

i think the best thing to teach a kid is to look at all of the evidence, and when it doesn't support your opinion, admit that you're wrong and edit the opinion. basically, apply the scientific method to your political views, and to everything else.
